Not sure if they put it in the movie but I loved the story Miles told in his book about trying to hire a Porter for his house on 77th street. A white guy knocked on his door and interrupts Miles who is explaining what he wants with Just let me speak to the owner. Miles closes the door and says "Man when you're black in this country you catch it All kinds of ways."
I wish I knew the names of the people talking. I seem to recognise Clark Terry whose gface they are not showing and Marcus Miller.. I don't know the others?
