  • The purpose of a bone marrow aspiration and biopsy test is to check if your bone marrow is working properly. The test can also tell if the cancer has spread to your bones. This video will help you understand the procedures including how to prepare, what to expect and what to do during the test.

I just had my 5th BMB today and it was horrific, barbaric as always. Today was the first time I felt tears in my eyes . Just very very painful , I’m so sorry other people need to go through this thing 😢

just had bone marrow biopsy done today (10/20/21). Doc used lidocaine to numb area. No actual shooting pain of any kind. Just a lot of pressure which was somewhat uncomfortable but not bad. I think the anticipation of pain was worse than the actual pain which was very minimal to none...mostly just the needle stick. I've had bowel movements that hurt worse. If I had to do it again I would. I am so sorry for anyone that had it done and experienced so much pain.

Maybe things have progressed. I was also numbed. But once they drilled through the bone the pain was awful, all the way down my leg. I still have pain to this day. Maybe nerve damage??

As a former MDAH patient ('75 - '88) I'm glad you're offering conscious sedation for this barbaric procedure (DRILLING a hole in bone on fully awake patient is CRUEL and EXTREMELY painful). I know this very well - I was at the receiving end of over 30 of these. Since I was 15 when I was first diagnosed, I continued in the pediatric section until I was 28 . The practice when I going there was they did the little kids first and the SCREAMS of the little ones still haunt me today (one of the reasons why I was diagnosed with PTSD). I would hope it is mandatory that the little ones receive conscious sedation - the sound of the kids screaming is unbearable and it traumatizes the children AND the adults. I find one very BIG fault with your video - NO ONE SMILES WHILE HAVING A HOLE DRILLED IN HIP BONE!!! Another fault with your video is that you don't address the post-procedure pain - it's intense for 3 days afterwards and needs copious amount of opioids afterwards (my cruel doctor NEVER gave me any - even as an adult). Good luck to you and your patients.

@@mdanderson i didn’t go through you guys for my treatment but in every video I’ve watched about these the doctor or nurse says there may be slight discomfort on the hip section… I can understand how this may be an easier procedure on older patients (50+) because of more fragile bones. I was 19 when I had mine and I don’t think I’ll ever experience anything more painful for the rest of my life. Younger patients need to be sedated for this procedure it’s is literally torture to put someone so young through that under no anesthetic. I was told my procedure would take like 15-20 minutes. I was laying down on the table for over an hour because they couldn’t gain access to my marrow. This procedure NEEDS to be reevaluated to be more comfortable to younger patients.

I had my third bone marrow biopsy today. I was lucky this time to have guided imaging in a donut machine with ultrasound and capable practitioners doing it this time with the new "arrow on control power bone access drill" system". I was awake yet somewhat sedated for the first time and both my skin and bone was numbed, which never happened during the previous biopsies. The previous biopsies used a chisel like device and a hammer like device and involved tapping and serious groans of pain. The Imaging Machine ensured the insertion was done accurately with the biopsy and that the correct area was biopsied. The first biopsy I had done was done in 2009. My second was done Nov 2020 but was botched with complications and no bone retrieved, just blood clots. The third Biopsy looked like it was done properly and an adequate amount of bone and blood was retrieved. I have to laugh as the "drill system" is a game changer. Next is my Petscan January 11th...

My mother's protein and globulin are high. My mother's doctor told her that she may have Myeloma. I know that she will need a bone marrow biopsy soon and I pray that the test results will be negative. My mother have lupus (sle) and I wonder if that has to do with the protein and globulin being high. My mother means everything to me. I already lost my father 5 years ago. 😢

Lupus is an auto immune disease. Auto immune diseases are known to trigger certain diseases like Amyloidosis, but Multiple Myeloma can also be the underlying cause. Protein and Globulin are seen in both MM and Amyloidosis. Was she diagnosed yet?

Oh my God help me pray for me
I am scared to death I am told by my primary doctor oncologist and hematologist they keep saying I have bone cancer
I can't even say that word
I have been telling my doctor for over a year I don't feel good please take a a blood test
he didn't for 5 months and I waited 4 months for my results he kept telling me oh everything is fine no news is good news
it took me 4 months to finally get a copy and when I went home and looked at it I knew something was wrong
With my blood cells, platelets, it looked like a lot of protein was in the blood etc etc
I know I'm not a doctor but I can read a little bit and understand
make a long story short he took another test 2 months later again I had to wait for the results
and then I find myself I had to go to an oncologist and hematologist
I am so afraid if I do have it which I pray to God I believe in God I can't have it
I won't be able to handle it mentally I can't believe this is happening
I'm not strong like other people I have to go in 3 days for it
I am petrified of the results people are saying in my family I'm in denial
I have children I didn't tell them I'm not going to tell them to me it's not definite
'm sorry for rambling I'm just so nervous
one question please if you see there's answer this question I beg you
Is there a chance of having a bone marrow biopsy and not having cancer ??¿??????does that happen a lot ????
    can I be negative maybe???
Like out of all the bone marrow biopsies like what is the percentage of people that come out negative?????
I will pray for everyone on this thread
God bless you all 🙏🙏🙏🙏 stay strong 💪💪💪💪💪
I'm trying but I'm weak mentally
    I can't handle it

How did it went? My mother is going through somewhat of a similar experience and she's so anxious so I was watching these videos to help her understand it better and not thoughts like that it is cancer if she goes through with the biopsy.
So please tell me how it went? Maybe your story might help my mother too.

Is there any pain after the procedure? And how much bone is taken out in a biopsy? Will there be stitches?

    • @venomx4093
      @venomx4093 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

No stitches. It's a needle taking the samples. They take a small sample of bone marrow. For size comparison, if you break a wooden toothpick in half, that is close to what they take unless they need more for some reason. As far as pain goes, that greatly depends on your pain tolerance and how skilled the doctor is.
