Just out of context, but the tank is semi-decent for the place it is serving (kinmen), a tiny island off the shore of China. It was replacing the over 650 M41C Taiwan owns before we received M60A3TTS, but by 1999 we received over 460 M60TTS and produced over 600 CM11 and CM12 tanks, making this project obsolete when it entered service. In the end 50 M41s were retrofitted into M41D and put into service in Kinmen (a tiny island off the coast of China) and armored fighting school. Note that the ones on Kinmen were only sent there because M41A3 serving there became such a fire hazard (their gasoline engine burn itself down when impacted) they had to be replaced. Yes I know it's a miracle M41A3 was still in service in 2010 but this is off the coast of China. The engine has 405 horsepower, which is way worse than the original engine. However, this was chosen because it was meant to fight mainly on islands that is not Taiwan where tanks will not get resupplied, so fuel economy was prioritized. A type 64 (not the one in war thunder) prototype was made with a 520 hp engine.
Kinmen Island's most powerful arsenal that is self-propelled is mostly ex-French M36B2 Jackson Tank destroyer, which made sense their mainstay tank defense is the M41 lol
@@cerdic6867 The last time the Commie PRC tried to invade that island, the Chinese invasion party during the Battle of Guningtou has a strenght of 19,000 troops against an understrenght infantry defending the Island. They were defeated and routed by the ROC defending the island with nothing more than an a platoon of 5 M5 Stuart that the ROC used since their operation against Japan in the Indochina region during WW2. The said Stuart fought against the Human wave tactic; the same tactic that UN force has been struggling in the Korean war, in this invasion and yet the Stuarts not only defeated them using its 37mm gun, when the ammo ran out the ROC Stuarts used themselves as battering ram and as a result of these Stuarts action, Kinmen Island remained the closest region of Taiwan to Commie China territory. Kinmen was literally an artillery firing range away from the mainland China territory, but it is still an island region and no matter how good the PRC tank is, it's useless when you don't have any secured landing zone to offload the tank, which made you rely on your amphibious force instead. The 76mm gun of the M41D is obsolete against the PRC MBTs, but not to their amphibious vehicles; thin-skinned and it barely floats on the surface. If they (PRC) even bothered trying to bring their MBT in LST, the LST's armor are also generally so thin that even a 40mm Bofors gun from a patrol boat could sink them without even having the chance to offload them into the coast.
@@gattonero2915 "Battering ram" is putting it lightly. The story behind the way they used those Stuart tanks is genuinely the stuff of nightmares. Once they ran out of ammunition, even MG bullets, they were used to methodically crush the enemy troops landing on the beach. The enemy soldiers would be suppressed from the shore while the Stuarts ran them over in their hiding places, I assume shell craters and behind piles of dead bodies.
@@cerdic6867 2 things that we considered: 1st, anything larger than a light tank is no good to the terrain there. The island is too small for any MBT to maneuver and too heavily fortified for any light tank to land. At the time (1999) the main opponent the M41D would face was Type 69s, IFVs, and infantry. Of course, it will be inadequate for today's standard, but at the time it was deemed enough. 2nd would be the overall strategy. Kinmen is not exactly strategically important for Taiwan to defend the main island, and when war begins, there is no way Taiwan can supply Kinmen, so anything sent to Kinmen will be considered a lost cause and will not contribute to the overall war effort, thus the most effective weapon at the cheapest price is the mainstay. Over 80% of servicemen stationed in Kinmen are locals for the same reason. Self-sustainability is centric to the overall strategy of these islands, thus M41D with the best fuel economy, the most powerful gun available to the tonnage, and the cheapest price possible (since it's just a simple conversion of the M41C tanks, of which we have an abundance of) become the first choice. Of course, they are getting replaced by CM-34s and ATGM teams, but the background makes sense for the overall strategic decision at the time.

Oh the 18th day of christmas Spookston gave to me...
More of his poor suffering.
Where was the "battle music" that played when the CV popped up (6:05) from? I know It very well as it instantly rang a bell and i can even remember the rest of it, but I can't connect it to a game. Is it maybe a boss music from any of the Dark Souls games? It's not from War Thunder, is it? XD
I mean, since you're already here I'd love to see you play the CM-11!
Like 10 seconds in and I'm already dying of laughter from the use of 3 backups. I do t even want to remember how much ge it was 😂
“I’m gonna switch to heat for extra damage.”
Gaijin: alright, roll a d20…… ooh, nat 1, sorry bud.
The IOU joke had me rolling; that was very clever.
Goes from playing war thunder to playing stranded deep and every tank turns into a tiger shark. A truly horror game experience this is.
I have a challenge of true pain. Try using a sav2012 at br 10.0 and try to get a kill with HE it is possible. I somehow killed a 2a6 with HE frontally
Your perseverance is an inspiration to us all.
this is a perfect summary of everything BS that happens in ground
Everyone killed with a single hit by an m41d be like: the hell hit me so hard? An m41d? How??
I also have more back ups on my T-64A than any of my AA in any nations (really good as AA) and best part, every time i use it, its always full up tier. Was really good when it first came out
next video: Spookston uptiers the M3 GMC to 11.0, gets five kills per game
I think the M41D is the closest you can get to the Allied Grizzly from RA2...
Chieftan Mk10 would be a nice one to see you play.
Spookston going through the 5 stages of grief through this video
The memes give me life. They describe how my brain works when I play this game after 5000 hours
3:12 @Spookston Funnily enough the HEAT from the Turm III can go through the era sides of a T-90A in game. I have a clip of it on my Xbox lol
Please try out the Lorraine 40t or the amx-50(TOA100), though it already kinda sees stuff from its time
I've learned that patience is the way to go in most tanks with bad ammo.
Never thought I'd see GREETINGS in a spookston video
These longer form videos are so good
Okay, you got me with the sneak level up.
Meme'ed up videos from Spookston is my favorite thing ever
Does anyone else think it kinda looks like an overweight Chaffe?
the back ups made me smile everytime i see it lol
It’d be cool if you played the t10m. Such a unique tank from an interesting time in history
is pronounce the french jet :ou-ra-gan
For anyone wanting to get Spookstons decal. Apparently you have to buy something from the store after you click on the link to get the decal. Posting this here since its not mentioned anywhere in Gaijin store.
One these days I want spookston to make some Generals vid with the amount of BGM's from the game he uses.
I hear the C&C Generals OST and I appreciate it, haven't played that game since I was like 9.
Throwing a brick at a tank would cause more spawl then the 76
dude this is honestly so reassuring bcos I just got the reg m41 and it has all the same issues and I thought it was user error
Spookston making good use of those 97 backups i see
Would love to see a video on the RBT-5, that thing is an abomination.
I dont think I have ever heard someone say "rush" and m41D in the same sentence
I didn't imagine waking up to a spookston vid. Today's gonna be a good day.
Omg, MBT Chaffee
The M41D and the AUBL 74/HVG are the pinnacle of 8.0 suffering.
2:59 "it's ok guys, women is with us. We can't loose now!"
