Gav forgot to mention we’d also use some old man grunting... that’s why we are watching!!! I’ve missed this series so much, been watching my notifications for yonks!! So glad your back chaps! 👍
I really don't understand why this channel doesn't have thousands more subscribers - it fully deserves it. Like many here, I also subscribe to a huge amount of the 'bigger' car related channels, but this is such a lovely little channel, it absolutely should have far more exposure. Hopefully one day lads - I'm certainly enjoying the videos anyway (even if they are preventing me from working on my own Moggy Pickup 'project' which is still calling me to finish the re-wiring!!! 😂).
My father’s old trick to undo nuts was to heat them up and as they cool down melt some candle wax around the nut. The wax then creeps into the thread and oils it
When I worked in an agricultural garage in the 80s. We had a long bar to put on the socket bar, for taking off wheel nuts, and then I would stand on it, the nut always gave up in the end 😋
There's nothing more satisfying than hearing that crack before a bolt finally gives up and turns! And I have to admit I'm a bit like Gav... I like to pick off flaking rust as well 😆 Great progress guys! Keep it up!
Just a heads up, one side can just go straight on with a gasket, but the other side will need shimming when you bolt the inner bearing housing to the trumpet. This is to set the bearing free play, as without shims you will load the half shaft tips together and can crack the hardened inserts. Theres a lot of misinformation online where people say they must not touch together, these people are talking rubbish. These are supposed to have a few thou of float with everything tightened up, but under the weight of the tractor acting on the taper bearings, the half shaft hardened tips actually push into one another. Hope this helps 👍
To get seized nut, bolts etc off i often spray/soak them in brake fluid, it's viscosity is much thinner than a lot of penetrating oils, you just have to be careful where you use it, eg painted surfaces. Good to have you back on our screens 🔧👍
Great to see you back at last, I’ve really missed the weekly Fergie slot. You’ll have to get yourselves some decent Oxy heat then nuts will fly off. The front axle bolts are usually seized solid.
So good to see and hear you both again, I was beginning to think you moved on to other projects. Lets hope you can get hold of wheels and tyres and get it rolling again.
Great to see you back, haven't taken the rear wheels off my '51' yet am dreading it. I was just thinking ooh nice sharp drill bit (mine are all blunt) then yours snapped haha.
If you can get hold of a small cheap bench grinder, drill bits are very easy to resharpen. I found a great video on youtube and taught myself to do it. Now I can even rescue a broken off drill bit. It's really just a case of getting the right angle. Use a know good bit as a guide.
Good work lads ,nearly there there will be a lot of crud ,dirt and water in under the diff and it will be very hard to get out , you should have taken that left trumpet off and made it easy to remove .Its only a few more bolts. It would also allow you to lift the diff out as its only held by the halfshafts.
You had an easy time with those wheels. If a good impact wrench isn't available I'd use a t-bar. Set it up with about 3 feet of leverage on both sides. I've always done this alone, so id put a jack under one end and stand on the other end. If this doesn't work id bounce on the end and strike the socket with a hammer. I wouldn't recommend this technique as it's pretty dicey. The setup can fail or explode and your in the firing line. I never had the setup fail with me, but I was mentally prepared to dive to the ground if things went wrong. A blow touch can be helpful, especially if you have a block of ice to use on the bolt after you've heated the nut, this is good time to get the penetrating oil in to. If you use this technique then be sure to use new studs on assembly as the heat treatment will change the structure of the studs.
For rounded off nuts I've had good luck with those lock on sockets, mine are a mix of sealey and cheapo sets, failing that irwin bolt grips are good although that would be a challenge for them
My missus walked in after hearing a lot of grunting and groaning coming from my speakers. I think she thought i was watching something I shouldn't have been. The look on her face when I told her its just Gav struggling with his rusted nuts.... lol
I used to dremel nuts off, the temptation to do it as a straight line front to back should be ignored, Do a diagonal cut front to back, then do one exactly the opposite, then using a cold chisel and a fine tool adjusting, widen it up both sides, then encourage it to turn, application of heat helps.
Good to see back on with it my favourite tool would have to be my M18 Milwaukee and my grinder lol. Not forgetting my long list of hammers lol. Oh btw any cake on the go lol. 👍

This is great. Found you after seeing you on the late brake show with Jonny and Richard.

Awesome nice to have you guys back. Stay safe

It looked all stained from an oil leak before it was cleaned up, are we to assume they did or didn't change the failed gasket ?

Happy New Year to you both!....
Glad to see your both well and back at it again.
Thanks!
Very good as usual. I usually loosen wheel nuts with wheels on the ground to prevent wheel rotation, then jack up and remove nuts and wheel.
So do we, I think we just got excited. Great tip, Thanks!
The skid brake boys.
Love the series. Great work guys. Any chance of a workshop tour/ rig run down type video.
Maybe one day! Thanks

Get on it!

HAHAH! Love it!

Super update , its getting there now but please treat yourself to some BILT HAMBER Ferrosol
What's that? Thanks
Não consigo encontrar a parte em que põe a bomba injetora no comando agradecia ❤
Great work chaps! 💪 How about a De Walt 18v impact wrench?...best tool I have bought
I thought exactly the same. They've got the grinder and drill, why not the impact gun. Mine pulled the wheel nuts off my 47 P3 with ease
I have a Gav!
@@Torquestamiya We think Gav may need a bigger battery then!! (Only kidding Gav! 😂)
Wot, no celebration cake!!
Next week!
Enjoying the series. Did you change the oil seals in the half shafts?
No, they seemed fine. Fingers crossed.
I’ve got a cross tread tyre Same as your left hand side in much the same condition for sale, rim isn’t great though
I think we are sorted! Thanks
Great to see you both back hard at it working on the old girl. (Is it a girl 🤔) anyway can’t wait for the next episode. But you must bring cake
There will be cake!
How did you find a complete axle for ten quid? That was a steal - Oh, maybe that's why it was so cheap ;-)
Get on the internet!
Did you find any wheels just tagged you in some on Facebook
I could probably do with a better set.
thought youd never get those wheel nuts off
We get there in the end!
I'm sure Helen is Gav in drag
You could be right!
Oh no you said fender , and I thought we Brits call the Mud guards.
Guys Make sure you don't Start the old girl ,the dif will drop, and then trubble,Regards.
