    Johnny Sack was one of the most fascinating characters on this show. Clever, manipulative, sadistic,self-destructive and warm hearted. Also one of the best dressed.

      @Zachary Jacobson Johnny Sack was an old school Cosa Nostra mobster, and in the old days, if you would have really publicly joked about the weight of the morbidly obese wife of an underboss, especially an underboss of a Five Families' family, you would have ended up buried in a concrete pillar in a matter of days.

      None of them did, they never considered people outside their thing as equals. Only Tony ever cared about what happened to Tracee, but that's because he was a bit of a self righteous hypocrite who thought he was above them albeit with a small ounce of humanity. The other mobsters only got angry at Ralph for turning down Tony's drink.

      That's why the audience rallied behind Tony. Not because Tony was right under his own rules, but because under that little ounce of humanity he shows his family and animals extended to the victim of a horrific murder, despite the obvious hypocrisy like how Tony would murder jackie jr or matt bevilaqua (arguably both more deserving of death) it never bothered Tony, yet he looked down on his own guys for doing the same. HIs hypocrisy with how Ralphie went too far is something he ended up pointing out before he died, Tony wanted to be the hero, but that's because his ego needed that to cope with his self-loathing.

    I like how Johnny makes Ralph think that Carmine has no idea about Ralph so that he doesn't go directly to Carmine for anything. We found out later that Carmine recognized Ralph for the powerful earner that he was. He effectively made himself the shoulder to cry on for all the disgruntled members of Tony's captains/higher ups. He put himself in a position to know about all the internal issues with the NJ family.

    • @ProtomanButCallMeBlues
      @ProtomanButCallMeBlues 4 ปีที่แล้ว +245

      How Johnny uses people of course. The Irony of it is he got Paulie under this thumb by telling him Carmine was impressed by him. While he's wrangling Ralph here because he sees Johnny as his only way to escape the Soprano crew, but he doesn't know that he might've had substantial pull with Carmine if he had talked to him directly.

    Johnny Sack is devoted to his wife and loves her unconditionally, but is apathetic about Ralph beating an innocent young woman to death. Tony cheats on his wife without giving her honor a moment's thought, but is willing to take personal damage to stand by his anger towards the wrong done to that girl. Interesting difference in moral formula for both these guys.

    • @chubbychaser00izu
      @chubbychaser00izu 3 ปีที่แล้ว +198

      It goes a bit deeper than that because Johnny never even met the stripper whereas Tony was giving her advice from time to time and he felt she was looking up to him like a child looks up to a parent. Tony has a thing for living beings who cannot defend themselves. Johnny on the other hand just saw her as a random stripper. Hence the different reactions. Obviously how they treat their wives, that's a different thing to me.

      The New York guys value business and money above everything. That's why they betray Phil in the end, his war against NJ is bad for business, and that's why even IF Tony dies in the ending, it wouldn't be NY since they would have no real leader in NJ to do business with, therefore they would lose a lot of money over killing one guy.

      H. S Read about Angelo Bruno's case. After Carlo Gambino passed away, The Chin ordered Angelo Bruno's murder to take over his rackets in Atlantic-city. That's the way they work. Btw, Johnny tells Ralph that the all Sopranos, Johnny Boy, Junior and Tony are difficult people to work with. And remember what Butch said? Hit the top 3: Tony S, Sil and Bobby B. And do the business with what's left -
      Paulie. A puppet kind. Give him a tittle and share profits and he will do anything you say to do.

      I don't know but I always loved The Smoking Scenes on Mad Men. From The Pilot Episode to The Meetings, To Happy Hour there was also a Sophistication about it. Also, there was a Scene on The UK Soap Opera EastEnders where Karen Taylor sends Tiffany Butcher and her Sister Whitney Dean to Jail for drug dealing. When she sees them going off to the Police Station she flicks her Cigarette away. Also remember how Doughboy & Ricky's Mother flicked The Cigarette when he got sent to Juvenile Hall for stealing in Boy In The Hood.

Sack agreed to 60/40 in Tony’s favor with no counter offer. He took it so Tony would do the hit then he could turn around and blame it on Tony . Since Tony had the beef with the HUD scam he would be the most likely suspect .
