Everything you talk about is informative old school like me use the manifold in car to cook while driving double wrapped with aluminum foil you would be amazed
You mentioned something that I think needs re mentioning. You take the container of emergency food into base camp when you are home. The heat from leaving in a car or in garage etc will ruin some of the food so if you have to leave it in the vehicle change it out every couple of months. Eat it up and put fresh items in.
Thank you! Very true- especially here in Florida!! I have to keep remembering to bring my bear spray inside to store when I'm not on the road now that it's summer again, too!!
I've been dreaming about getting a fridge!!! Now you have me second guessing myself. You, I, We do not really need a fridge. There are so many dry food options. I do love my cream cheese, eggs and bacon. Of course, I can buy cooked bacon and I can get eggs at a local farm that don't need refrigeration, but cream cheese? It's my favorite. Great video. Thanks so much for all the great information. Would love to see you do a video on your fridge!!! Until next time!
I will say that I still consider getting a fridge to be the best upgrade I have done so far (I love having cold drinks, my coffee creamer, eggs/meat/leftovers to heat, etc...) but I definitely think I could get by without one if I needed to! I'm actually planning a fridge vs cooler/review of my fridge very soon! (I started filming it yesterday but got tired and lazy, and ended up just sitting at camp & staring at the lake & reading until sunset instead haha!!)
@@HeathersHikesAndAdVANtures Yeah, I'm getting a fridge. Actually, I wish I had a little freezer. Dollar Tree has Kind pint ice cream for $1.25. Caramel Sea Salt Peanut Butter. I can see me storing about 12 of them!
Im usually prepared for storm evac with enough shelf stable foods to last me a couple weeks. the "new" tuna and chicken pouches work great and I also have them in my different go bags, even spam comes in individual packets. ramen can be used in place of pasta or rice in a lot of meals. I carry my own dehydrated food mixes from commercial dehydrated foods, some as meals like cabbage roll, pulled pork and beans or chili but I also have a bag of peppers, onions and jalapenos, a bag of dehydrated diced tomatoes with tomato powder, a bag of mixed dehydrated beans and refried beans. I have the powdered cheese like cheaper boxed mac N cheese uses as well a s several bags off unboxed mac n cheese. various can goods and fresh water bottles... get stuck in small spaces. My chuck box has all my spices, as well as some of all of the above.. before heading out I add several gallons of fresh water and anything that needs to be kept cool like sausages or burgers, lunch meat, cheese go in a small cooler.. I had my full size van well stocked but the motor went out in it last week now I need to reconfigure my trailblazer as an overnighter/bob.. bug out vehicle..right now its set up for haulin brats and day trips..
Great tips and suggestions for more food storage to keep on hand!! Living in Florida, I always try to have at least a mini stockpile entering hurricane season - it's so important to be prepared!!
To heat water for coffee my Hubby did an experiment by setting his coffee cup filled with water and a coffee bag out in the sun. In about and hour or so depending upon how much sun we have that day his coffee is hot and ready to drink. It's working great! I've also set out water to heat up for cup- a-noodles!
Hi Heather I hope you had a wonderful weekend. And yeah thanks for making this video because pretty soon I'm gonna be working on throwing some dry food storage bags together. 🎒 I will probably be buying some of the all ready prepared tuna n chicken. I already have some of the UB rice, beans, garlic, or butter n chives instant mashed potatoes. Instant oatmeal w nuts and raisins. PB n J, w wheat crackers. Which reminds me to check my home base pantry. I think I'm down to about 2 of each of these items. But out if the wheat crackers. I cannot live without my bananas and some other fruit so I would probably be buying dehydrated fruit packets to put in my dry bag. And just glad that you brought this up.I think I'll check on the pantry this week and see where I'm at. Have a great week ahead and be safe.
Sounds like you've got some great options! Those tuna and chicken pouches are so darn handy and versatile, aren't they!? Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching!
@@HeathersHikesAndAdVANtures I actually was able to get all the pantry list, and shopping done. 🛍 Just before learning that my rear tires are almost illegal. 😐 So I'm going to be stuck home for a while longer. But I've got plenty to do at home base. So that works out in the end. Have a great weekend coming up! 😀
Hey girl! Great video! I love seeing what people have in their pantry 😂 I carry a lot of the same things. Safe travels & hope to see ya down the road 🚐💜
Oh I'm the same, I love seeing what kind of stuff people bring with them... so I figured might as well show everyone what I'm workin with lol!! Hope you're having a blast on the road - till we run into each other one day!! 💚
thank you for all the useful information another great and informative video!! I get a lot of similar things Walmart has their version of those fruit pouches it's like $6 for 12 of them hey I love brioche buns too I usually go to Aldi and get the buns and their cranberry almond chicken salad and put that into the fridge when I'm traveling... stay safe we are looking forward to your next video!!
Some really good ideas here. I like to have food that requires no refrigeration available in the van but I also really like having my fridge/freezer lol. I like being able to freeze meat for being on the road for a while and I have to have my yogurt and mill, I couldn't live without it
I know just what you mean!! I know TECHNICALLY I could do just fine without any refrigeration, I love having my coffee creamer and cold beverages, and being able to heat up leftovers, etc... makes life on the road so much more "comfy" and cozy somehow! Thank you!
Hi Heather 👋 Very helpful video. I never thought of those dry foods to keep on hand.I use an ice cooler. For my soda, milk, my lunch meat and to keep my cat (Reeses)food cool. The rice, tuna, beans, and pretty much everything else, great idea! Those mountain dinners I think are to expensive. But everything else, good to go. I have to watch the video again so I can write those items down. Thank you for sharing. Great video.👍 Bye 👋
Thanks Curtis, I appreciate it!! I agree that the backpacking meals like the Mountain House are a bit pricey, but they can come in handy in a pinch (especially living in Florida during hurricane season! Its nice having some stuff on hand with a super long shelf life so it doesn't have to be replaced much & can be put aside for emergency use!)
Emergency grab bag! Oh my goodness we almost got evacuated 2 yrs ago for a forest fire. Yeesh! It's a scramble. Lotsa stuff happening at the same time. Grab your box on the way out. 1 less thing to think about.

Thank you John, that means a lot! And I bet, I've heard others mention successfully cooking meals that way before, very resourceful!

Your black cool bag is lovely. A nice size.
Thank you, I really love the size! It's small, and a convenient shape, but still fits quite a bit!!
