I would love to see other car brands sign on for FSD. This software is a boon to the handicaped driver that needs some help controlling the driving of the car.
12.5 is the best so far and may be “the proof of concept” version but it’s far from being ready for release as an autonomous version. There are a number of regressions and more subtitle issues. FSD needs a handful of full iterations to get to the point that it is at that point. Maybe 12.8 or 12.10 versions will be releasable. Elon’s attitude during these quarterly reports really suck. He is rarely excited about the positives and even Q2 had some real positives even though it was negative overall.
FSD 12.5 running red lights, driving in the wrong lane, driving into the back of a UHaul truck, unable to back up, unaware of emergency vehicles are just a few easier examples of the hundreds of less frequent and difficult edge case challenges that lie ahead to solve in the next several years.
Elon explained this several times, both Xai and Tesla had a lot of H100’s on order from Nvidia. Xai for their new data center in Memphis, and Tesla for their new datacenter in Austin. Nvidia was getting ready to ship the Tesla order to Austin but the Austin site construction was not done, Tesla would of had to pay for them($B) and then let them sit in storage for several months. Since the Xai datacenter in Memphis was almost complete they rescheduled and had Nvidia ship the Xai order first. Xai received and paid for these H100’s. The Tesla order was pushed back which benefited Tesla since they will receive them and have to pay for them much closer to the time the Austin datacenter construction finishes. This also benefited Xai since it allowed them to get their Memphis datacenter up and running much sooner. Indeed as of last week they put it to work training neural nets and is the largest supercomputer in the world for Ai training.
