Just got my 2016.5 cx 5 in soul red with all the technology features and I LOVE IT... I like the way all these crvs, accords and escapes freaks look at me when i'm driving this beauty...
I just bought a 2016.5 CX-5 Grand Touring AWD in Titanium Mica with the full options and packages, and it drives amazingly well. The fuel economy is averaging 28-29 mpg in 70% highway driving, which is not too bad in 35 degree weather and winter blend gas. It seems like the CX5 is so popular here in the Seattle area.
I love my CX-5 2016.5 here in 2020. So far, it's been perfect on reliability and is fun to drive. I disagree with the video about how easy it is to find radio station favorites. I think it is very intuitive, and the ergonomics of the controller is excellent.
just got this car today!!! terrific car so far. i drove g37x, and frankly, overally interior looks/feels pretty good if not any better :) Driving is something that wowed me during test drive. I testdrove other SUVs, and this car handled itself like premium brand. (comparing with g37x, i didn't feel much difference except for some lack of horsepower)
Ive owned a 2016 CX-5 for a year now, it handles like a car. I owned a 2010 Mazda 3 before and they are very similar. It has a soft and smooth ride. I ve been getting about an average of 35 miles/gallon, but I guess is due to the start&stop feature that the CX-5 equips. greetings
Halya Bans I just picked my 2016.5 cx 5 last week and it really blows heat and ac very well to the back seats, remember this is a "small" cabin so air and heat flows around very quick and easy...
After moving from 2014 mazda 3 to 2016 cx5,the steering on the cx5 is way beefier and better with way better weight,it handles like a sport car, very impressed. Love mazda
Good concise review, however I have to disagree about the Mazda slogan. Too many car makers are appealing to the crowd of people who think driving is a monotonous A to B task. Driving is fun, and Zoom-Zoom spoke to those of us who love the road.
Why would they have paddle shifters on a car that is not fast? Its like complaining that a ferrari doesn't have much cargo space, its not what it was designed for.
I predict that Mazda will start to take market share away from some of the bigger competitors. Skyactiv and the Kodo design philosophy make these cars a lot of fun
I bought one about a week ago with 45,000 mi on it used of course. All wheel drive Grand touring and I absolutely love it it is a bit zippy I mean zoom zoom is really what it does I have to watch how heavy I put my foot on the pedal but this is not my first Mazda this is actually my third Mazda. I usually always buy them used I never buy them brand new I close to brand new. I own a 2006 Mazda 6 s. I also had a 2007 Mazda 3 hatchback loved it to death and now I own the 2016 Mazda CX-5 Grand touring and I'm just blown away by the Grand touring. At the end of the year I'm hoping to get into for my wife a Mazda CX-90 I believe is what it is it replaced the CX-9. So yeah this family we like Mazda a lot. My wife's current car is a Kia soul 2012 Plus it's okay I wouldn't say it's a long-term car to own it has 140,000 mi and it's already showing a lot of wear as far as the engine the engine makes way too much noise for my comfort. But I was looking at the Honda equivalent to the CX-5 and the Toyota equivalent to the CX-5 and I decided to go with my Mazda cuz I've already owned a couple of them and I still own us the 2006 Mazda 6 s.. and that car it has it has 190 mi and still going strong that car is way way faster I mean better than zoom zoom it really moves but it's a V6
I hadn't realized that was Aaron Paul in the new Miata commercial. I went to go watch it here on YT and the ad before the video was the very commercial I went to watch.
The Miata commercial reminds me that my life is nearly over. And what's all this "When You were You" crap??? I've always been me. Mazda, your cars are so good right now. Don't try to get all emotional on us.
Great review as always, Tom! Btw I don't consider you an intuitive knob ;) You're a great guy and awesome reviewer. And you're my height too so that helps with the interior shots. Cheers from your neighbour north of the 49th.
Beautiful and best value; if and when they put a diesel in it plus all the fixes you mention it will be the ultimate putting BMW X3 diesel etc to shame!
I'm really looking into getting a cx5 but I've gotten a few bad reviews from friends who own Mazda. particularly regarding the reliability and durability of the brand. if you own a Mazda that you've put more than 100,000 miles on, can you tell me if you've ever had any real mechanical issues with the car?
+VpY22 I have never owned a mazda but I'm seriously considering the CX-5. I had the same concerns, but consumer reports current rankings for brand reliability actually have mazda higher than Honda. There was a time when mazda shared parts with ford since ford was part owner. Ford still owns a smaller share of mazda, but these new mazda's are all mazda only parts and design. Rankings consumer reports as of oct 2015 best to worst. Granted this list is based on CR's reader survey. The surprises are how far Honda, Acura and Infiniti dropped. How high Buick and the Korean car companies have jumped. =============== Lexus Toyota Audi Mazda Subaru Kia Buick Honda Hyundai Mini BMW Volvo Volkswagon Porsche Nissan Lincoln Ford Acura GMC Chevrolet Mercedes Chrysler Dodge Infiniti Cadillac Ram Jeep Fiat
You didn't seem very impressed with this car, Tom. I've noticed the 'just like a German car' bit and 'trim that you could find in an Audi' bit. It's just that all these good things are not really coming together, somehow... Or am I reading too much between the lines maybe... Is the auto box a CVT?
Ioanides001 It is a 6-speed, not a CVT. Let's put it this way, this car would be on my test drive list if I were buying a compact crossover. Also, I didn't talk my brother-in-law out of buying one just like this one last week.
I find the Aaron Paul commercials creepy and annoying. It really turned me off to the brand. But anything that handles well these days is worth checking out.
You saw the future with the Corona Virus and the hoarding of Costco Toilet paper with your TP trunk test! *bows down to you* Milk this while you can. lol
The guy sounds like Candy Crowley on CNN. In this social media era, the stilted, robotic "news voice" is both annoying and passe. Just be yourself, man.

I really enjoy your reviews. Good info and just the right length.
Chris Baskett Thanks Chris!

I’m considering buying one in 2024. I’m glad I saw your comment.

Just picked up my 2016 CX5 today , LOVE IT !

i know this cars didnt have rear air vents...but can it cools the passenger seat at the back well?

your reviews are ever so enjoyable!!
At least mazdas cars dont look as dated as Mitsubishis.great review.
After moving from 2014 mazda 3 to 2016 cx5,the steering on the cx5 is way beefier and better with way better weight,it handles like a sport car, very impressed.
Love mazda
I really like that color and they did a great job on the refresh. It looks a lot less cheap.
Great review! ...although I disagree about the marketing slogan. I always loved the zoom zoom.

I really like your reviews Tom, it's so clear and detailed

Exactly

Love my Speed3. This will be a nice addition to the driveway soon beside it!

Glad I saw your comment. I’m planning on getting a 2016 Mazda CX-5 GT in 2024.
I hadn't realized that was Aaron Paul in the new Miata commercial. I went to go watch it here on YT and the ad before the video was the very commercial I went to watch.
For over $30k I would also check out the forester XT which has many of the cx-5's options but comes with a turbo.
Great review as always.
The Miata commercial reminds me that my life is nearly over. And what's all this "When You were You" crap??? I've always been me. Mazda, your cars are so good right now. Don't try to get all emotional on us.
Actually, paddle shift is available if you indent the Paddle Shift accessory in Mazda nearest Dealers.
Here in Costa Rica this model costs around $50K ...
Great review as always, Tom!

So much nicer than the Ford Escape. No idea why people buy Fords in droves. Cheaper price?
+supercooled also more powerful engine options.
Thinking about getting this car used by 20k, good condition, 26k miles, what you guys think?
Do it! I bought mine, 2016 Grand Touring CX5 with 209K for $19.5, worth every penny. Love it
Just out of curiosity, why is a diesel not available in a lot of U.S. cars like it is in many other parts of the world?
How come your intro says "Evil Twin" in the bottom right? Auto term?
XXSPAZKILLXX Evil Twin was part of a back seat test I used to do. He asked for too much money and an assistant. Had to let him go.
What's the name of the color? It looks amazing 😎

Hey Tom... "Zoom Zoom".
Great stuff.
You didn't seem very impressed with this car, Tom. I've noticed the 'just like a German car' bit and 'trim that you could find in an Audi' bit. It's just that all these good things are not really coming together, somehow... Or am I reading too much between the lines maybe...

Driven Car Reviews So it's good enough! The 6-speed it's a regular torque converter I guess, not a DSG...
So what do you tell the employees at Costco when they ask what you do with all the toilet paper?
Luke Skywalker I wave my hand and say "these are not the droids you're looking for..."

Cars are getting wayyyyy overpriced!!! $34,000 for this? Cmon!
With inflation, the prices for most vehicles are where they should be. Some cars are cheaper today than inflation says they'd be.
+Moaiz Shahzad Agreed.
Mazda is now what Volkswagen was in the 90s
Volkswagen reliability is a crap don't forget about that.
I find the Aaron Paul commercials creepy and annoying. It really turned me off to the brand. But anything that handles well these days is worth checking out.
and when you open your eyes you will find out that it is not an ugly German car ;)
306k people had just made a mistake lol
Blows my mind that Mazda's are selling that poorly in comparison. Seems so unfair haha.
You saw the future with the Corona Virus and the hoarding of Costco Toilet paper with your TP trunk test! *bows down to you* Milk this while you can. lol
timinge cx

Candy was fired from CNN over 2 years ago!!
No no no, dont take 40e model, lol.
Sport drive too sporty for a crossover?! Lol Okay
Sport is one thing. Throttle response that's more like a light switch is another.
