I am experiencing similar. Life hasn't been the same. I threw my whole heart and soul into caring for her on my own while working full-time just the two of us and the house. Yes it's suddenly very quiet. I have a lot of tough days, but I have some good ones too.

You are spot on my dear My husband and I raised 3 children, while having very demanding careers, my husband as an Oncology Nurse and myself as an Emergency Trauma Nurse, our oldest chose College and Graduate School, pursued her Masters Degree in Bio Medical Science, she is a Research Scientist and a College Professor, our 2nd child went straight into the work force, he was our only son, he works for a large construction firm, and his live of All things mechanical paid off, our youngest child joined the United States Air Force, right out of High School, she retired as a Staff Sargeant with 8 years of service, All of our kids left home at 18 to pursue their lives and dreams, but it was always hard and sad to see them go, but we were still working, and by the time they were leaving, our parents started needing more of our help, due to health concerns, my husband and I turned 62 this year, we are only discovering our lives again, We have one grand child and another one on the way, so the circle of life will keep us going, but we do not want being grand parents to be our whole lives, hope that doesn't sound bad.

Oh yes! I'm 66... My daughter married an Aussie and fell in love with Australia...I so get it! They now live in Tasmania "Tassie"..I live in Illinois. I have a grandson there too...awesome life down in the magical kingdom! Love that they have a great life. I love your work...I cry all the time when I think of them. But I embrace my emotions, all of them and I'm good at having lots to do! I am into meditation, yoga, exercise and an optimal diet.i love online class workout videos..they pump me up! You're a gem! Thank you!

I’m Australian and my adult children now live in Portugal and the UK, so the opposite side of the planet. I’m asleep while they’re at work and vice versa. So it’s really hard. I so understand your emotions. It’s almost like grief.

As a daughter of a mother who didn’t share her feelings, I hope you tell them how you feel. My mom didn’t want to burden me with her pain, I’m guessing, but I’d much rather have known about it and tried to comfort her. I only found out about her depression after she died. We talked every day and saw each other often, but she never told me how depressed she was. She always seemed upbeat. I hope your children call you often and include you in their lives. It’s so important to share all our feelings, even if they’re hard to hear.

So true!! My husband and I became empty nester 2 years ago, and like you said sometimes the house is really quite and stale. As we get older "change" is a little harder. Logically, i understand it is part of life and I wouldn't like it any other way. It's good for the kids to have the experience of moving out of the house and study, follow their passion. Nostalgy hits from time to time, and we need to be prepared for that. I think having a good relationship and great communication helps a bunch. Good luck to all that are in the process, it gets better!! 😘✨️

One of the things I love about this channel, and there are many, is that it helps me realize I am not alone in these middle age struggles. No one likes to talk about it. There is endless conversation and commiseration between the new mothers. They don’t know what they are in for much later on lol.

So true. Endless conversations and endless books and forums dedicated to new mothers and we are kind of left on our own to figure it out. Not many people talk about it so I'm thankful for this space they don't know what they're in for so true lol

I used to work as a Life Coach, and one of the things that would always come up, both for Mothers and Fathers, - the empty nest. Many parents, as you say, do not prepare for it. When it happens it is like a death in the family it is essentially. The life you worked for, worked at, is now over - Changed, done. Now what!? Really nice topic to discuss and great ideas! you are so inspiring!

I wasnt prepared emotionally. When our only son moved out it was really hard to realize he was moving on to a new phase of his life. However, since he moved in with his now wife and they are only ten minutes away, we cant complain. We see them often and are so blessed. And now that we are both retired, my husband and I are having a blast! The new phase of our life and the new phase of their lives have both been wonderful.

Also, for those of us, who unfortunately, never had a "full nest". I think this is why I love nature and animals so much! My nest is filled a little with ageing parents...finding a balance between helping but not taking away ANY of their independence. They're fiercely independent and not easy to help them. We're doing the decluttering, have to as my
folks need to downsize. It's very liberating, but Dad has kept hold of everything! It was all very neat and tidy, if you can declutter slowly, start now!
My essentials in life are nature walks, yoga, kettlebells, delicious food, good friends. I've started running Mindful, Creative Writing workshops...absolutely love running them!
Thank you Gail for your aurhentic and inspiring videos...
    Transitions...yes please to more videos!

This is what I needed to hear at this stage of my life. I'm 58, my eldest son has been out of home for a few years now but I still see him quite often and anyway at the time it happened I was thinking "Well I still got the youngest one here, so my nest is not empty yet". Now the second one will be leaving soon if everything goes as he planned, and then the blow will strike. You are right, I need to plan too and be prepared. Thanks for your words and tips, I will try to follow them ❤

This is very interesting. Im actually 27 and have 3 young children, but I already think about this period of life when they will leave home and what that will be like. They uproot your life and turn it upside down, but then when they leave it must turn your world upside down again! Whilst being an empty nester is a while off for me yet, it's interesting to hear it is actually something you should prepare for. 👍

My comment is live life! Whether a mom, friend, wife, daughter, employee etc. There is no one or no thing that can fill me and help me through the opportunities and challenges of life like the wisdom and love I get from Jesus ✝️. When I was younger, I placed my hope and my effort on my marriage. We are still married but it’s not thriving. His lust issues were more important than his marriage. I wasted a lot of time. Some women sink their hope and time into their children. And that doesn’t “pay off” either. The more time we spend getting spiritually, mentally and physically healthy, the more we are able to endure the pains and appreciate the joys. The relationships I have with my Christian friends is deep and filled with joy, love and satisfaction. They have become my support system on earth and a place I spend my time nourishing. Blessings to all and I hope your book helps and inspires many!

Thank you for sharing with us what you have gone through after your son moved out. I am struggling to find my way now at 56. My daughter is 21, lives at home, but is seldomly here due to work and university classes she takes. Gone are the days of her needing me daily to get her places like dance, softball, homework help, etc… I don’t know who I am without the main title of mother. I feel lost and lonely and have very little self confidence anymore. I’m also going through menopause and it has changed so many things about me. I do eat healthy and exercise daily. But outside of that I don’t know what to do with myself…I feel empty and I am so scared of living like this the rest of my life. I am married to a wonderful man, but he has a very busy career and he travels from time to time. We spend time together whenever we can, but once we’re apart I feel empty and uncertain about life again. I have a couple of friends and very little family left. I’m afraid to try anything new or make commitments because I sometimes don’t follow through and I don’t want to disappoint anybody or myself. You have been a light in some of my dark days… you give me hope and you are helping me to realize that I can still feel good about myself and how I look regardless of my age..aging has been a tough one for me… the physical changes in my face from years of sun tanning make me feel old and unattractive. I listened to your first podcast episode today and I found it helpful. I mediate 4 days a week, but now I would like to try to commit to doing it everyday. Much love and appreciation to you for all you do! ❤☮️

I worked full time so when all the boys went off to higher education, and then separate lives I had plenty to fill my life. They come back from time to time, retiring after working from 17 has been more difficult and you may think you can prepare, but good luck! And I’m relatively busy and obviously fit, but then I always was, don’t leave staying healthy until you’re older and it’s difficult. I’d agree with the kettlebell, one of the boys teaches fitness and he gave me the kettlebell tip too.

Similar for me. I never had so many interest in hobbies as when my daughter was little. She was my muse and I was inspired and always to get fit, to eat well, to be creative, to travel an adventure. Now that she is gone, and I am of a certain age with a some mobility issues... I don't love going places alone, but I guess I will start with some smaller trips. The house is quiet and that's hard for me. All the friends all are coming and going suddenly halts when they leave. Still adjusting. I have my faith and that really helps get me through.

Thank you for this. I'm preparing currently and I'm not excited at the thought. 18 is so young to be out there, I'm sure you were probably not expecting it so soon, which must have been hard as there was no time to prepare yourself? My 19 year old is thinking of future plans but I think we have a good few years before he's ready to give up mums cooking on a daily basis 😅, my youngest however is 14 almost 15 and he's raring to go and cant wait to get out there, so I worry he will do as I did and run before he can walk, as I too moved out at 18. I'm thinking of ways I can prepare myself now, as 5 or 6 years tops seems like a long time, until you look back at the 19 years you've been a parent and you realise how very very quickly those years will fly by. Glad to know your son is happy and doing well. I hope you get to see him often xxx

I know that's shouldn't be the sole motivator but that's a big one for me since it sort of follows along the same path of making choices based on what's good for them. But whatever works to start the ball rolling, I suppose. Thank you.

Im an only child. My mom ran me off when she was going through the change and was so angry all the time. Then she complained of empty nest. Both our lives would have gone better if she hadnt done that. She didnt mind me coming back to pay bills when she got down in health though

That makes me so sad. My daughter is an only child. When I dropped her off at college, I cried the entire 2.5 hours home. She's got a long road of schooling, so we told her she's always welcome to stay. I cannot imagine pushing her out, especially at such a young age. Our goal, as parents, is to ensure she's got the best footing before she moves out completely.

I'm 35 and think you're a model woman really. Still in the game. RESPECT.
I think the reason it lands well is that you seem to be doing it for yourself and men do respect grit and determination (it is attractive). Good for you.

Just found your channel. I divorced when my nest became empty. Now 70 and remarried. I became plant based 8 years ago and feel so much more alive. I started painting again. I love makeup and skin care. I look at least 10 years younger but that's not my aim, i want to be the best me i can be always.

Not quite "empty nester", but almost; our fourth of 5 has just moved out, it is heartbreaking every time. At 63, and grandmother of 4, I still haven't gotten used to it. I am once again in a depression.I know it will pass, but it is a terrible feeling. My mother didn't prepare me for this, or at least tell me about it. I want to do it differently. "Empty nester" ; I am very grateful for this English term that cannot be translated into German. Now my feelings finally have a name😊.Now all that’s missing is a logo ( from🇨🇭)

It's the reason we should enjoy our lives instead of putting so much effort into raising kids..
As an 18 year old, I feel I wouldn't wanna go through empty nest thingy and waste my whole life (i have only one life) raising childrenm... That sounds like a huge waste of time to me.

    • @CynthiaAva
      @CynthiaAva 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@joannastasiaExactly. I wasn't brainwashed however I wanted a child and a family and like everything else in life, there is a plus side and a minus and we have to be prepared to adopt and adjust accordingly living life on life terms.❤❤❤ when I was 18 I didn't want children either but somewhere in my 30s that changed. My daughter is the best thing that ever happened to me and my life... difficult to deal with the emptiness thing on my own, but I do it, one day at a time.

I saw your comment on the video GoatisReviews made about you. He is currently a fugitive criminal because he paid a guy to throw acid on his ex-girlfriend and then paid the same guy to kill her and her son in a house fire. This happened in the Netherlands and the attacker's name is Ilyas. Last week, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison and Goatis was officially declared a criminal.
You should copyright strike the video to help to get his channel deleted.
