I really appreciate this, thank you. As excited as I am... Little bit of me is rolling my eyes about maintaining a third tank! 😂 BUT, more room for fish and coral. Thank you for your support 💪
Just came across your channel. Your attention to detail shows on your tank. Your maintenance tips are important as far as maintaining your reef tank. As far as aiptasia I purchased a copper band butterfly two years ago and he keeps the aiptasia at bay. Keep up the good work. Subbed your channel.
Love your videos man! I’m a little new and kind of just getting into all of this. Ive had an idea for a while now of getting a 30 gallon saltwater tank, but I do not want to get the tank until I’m fully prepared and know what to do. I have fresh water 10 gal but this is obviously a huge step up from that. Maybe you could do a video on how to set up a salt water tank and what to do for beginners?
Good vid, a really good tip don’t leave your scraper in the aquarium, it only takes a bit of calcerous growth or sand and the first time you move it, you will regret it
I love this sir! It would be even more aweseome if you could talk a little more about your setup, your products and maby links in the description. So we can tips on what stuff thats good :)
Stumbled upon your instagram the other day before finding this video. Great insight into your tank and good to see a fellow Yorkshireman (I’m based in York) Also running modern reef and I’ve not done a water change in a bout a year, happiest my tank has every been running this method and an amazing range of products to use
Yorkshire, Yorkshire, Yorkshire 😂 Great to hear! I've found the 4 part solution one of the best I've used. I get some backlash re the water changes but, if it's working and saves a ton of effort... Why not give it a shot? Just got to make sure you subsidise the water changes with implementations in the set up. Happy Reefin' buddy 👊
Found your channel after Reef Dork 's shout out on his livestream. Subscribed to my fellow Yorkshire reefer. Great video and I look forward to following. 👍
Hey Jay! Thank you so much. I didn't realise I had a shout out, cheers Reef Dork 💪 Nice to meet another Yorkshire Reefer. I promise we will be focusing on the "Reef" bit this year. New build starts next week 🤫 See you soon 🙌
How you finding modern reef, i have just started with one for reef, had to restart my tank 3 months ago and its going well now, loving the channel keep the videos coming
Hi Mark, firstly thank you so much for your comment! Really appreciate this. If I'm honest, this is the best I've yet to try. If you deep dive more into the 4 part solution it packs a great balance of everything you would need, so far so good. Sorry to hear you had to restart, I too have had to do this and it SUCKS! Hope you get back to where you were quick sharp 💪
Hi mate, stumbled upon your channel, great content and love your tanks! Ive just ordered a Fluval Evo 52L and in process of getting upgraded bits for it before i start putting it together. Could you do a beginners tips video for your nano maybe? Cheers!
Hi mate! Thank you for watching, I really appreciate this! My first tank was the evo! Loved that tank so much. Drop me a message on Instagram and I'll let you know how I ran it. However; I'm setting up my new 512L tank in February so, I will be going through everything in hope that at the end of the 12 week series, you'll have all you need to succeed 👊
Do the fish spy on you with the magnifier glass on the tank? 😆 Very nice run down. I am considering getting into the reefing tank world. I have had mainly fresh water tanks and a 3,500 gallon Koi pond in my garden, but funny enough I worry about the maintenance and cost of saltwater tank. Maybe will start small with a Nano all in one tank? -Cheers from Seattle!
Hey! Thank you so much for watching, really appreciate this. Yes absolutely, start with some clown fish and slowly progress. My advice would be to treat carefully... You never know how big you may go 😂 My first tank was the fluval Evo, had so much fun with this! I bet you're busy with the Koi pond, would love to do an outdoor freshwater set up one day 🙌
Really enjoyed this video , follow you on Insta and enjoy your contents. I’m 7 months into reefing from fresh water and learning so much, had a disaster Xmas morning to my two tangs dead followed by another 7;fish, now left with just 3 , as you said make sure you observe your fish, but getting on top of it and getting back a much cleaner tank. Im also waiting on my illumagic light so look forward to that video, Anyway enjoying what you are doing keep it up
Hello, I'm really sorry to hear that. So many things can cause loss, everything from infection to equipment failure. Hopefully, I can at least help those coming into the hobby to learn from my mistakes. Thank you for your support, means a lot to know you are enjoying the content. Let me know if you want me to cover anything specifically! Happy Reefin' 🐠
Hey, thanks for your comment! Well, in my honest opinion; each fish is unique! Although we should make an informed choice about choosing our fish, sometimes with careful observations, you can keep "non reef safe" fish without any issues. I do make sure I check regularly BUT, he's been good as gold so far 😂 For instance, I've tried Filefish and CBB who are known to eat aiptasia and have done absolutely nothing... It goes both ways 😂
Just got rid of my flame angel.. hate I had to let him go but couldn't keep acans with him, if he was well fed he wouldn't touch my hammers and frog spawn to much.. 7year 180gal.
Absolutely agree! I added 3 but I think they were so small they were eaten. Waiting on a supplier for some mature nudis. If this doesn't get sorted, I may just accept my fate as a aiptasia farmer 👀😂
They take while to multiply. Add a few at night and they will dissappear into the rock work. One day you will wake up and you'll notice your aiptasia problem has gone😂
Why not just get a reefmat and get rid of the socks all together. That's one of the best things I have done in my reef tank. I'd much rather replace the fleece once every 35 days rather then deal with cleaning socks every 3-5 days.
Hi mate, I'm really lucky... I have one on order but one that I can still benefit from the evaporation rate AND fits well with the build 🙌 Thanks for watching!
@@TheYorkshireReefer I just setup a Red Sea 250 and really don’t want a lid as it looks so much better but don’t think I will get away with it. Keep up the good work mate!
Hey man, thanks for your comment. I agree, however; I regularly check everything with ICP tests and run certain media to support this system. I do not discourage water changes 😀
On long enough time scale given that you will stay in the hobby long enough you will have condaminants building up which will cause your tank problems and potentially crash the artificial ecosystem. As clever it may seem no water change and dosing there's many things that you can't test for which will build up overtime in closed environment. - also known as old tank syndrome.
Hi mate, thanks for your comment, appreciate this. Fortunately I do monitor this with frequent ICP tests and although I do agree with you, I am confident in the way this system is currently set up. It hasn't been easy getting this far with it on the methods I use BUT, this isn't to say I won't do water changes. I think you should if you can but I came across methods of avoiding this and thought I would apply some of the techniques learned. Appreciate this 🙌
There are lots of reefers who haven't done water changes in years, a very deep/neglected sand bed is a bigger cause of old tank syndrome then no wc and consistent water changes
Thanks for watching! It's just my advice and it works for me on this system and for me. Breaking a skimmer in is no joke 😂 Thank you for the suggestion but I'm deliberately running the refugium this way and will continue to on this system. Happy Reefin' 🪸
@@TheYorkshireReefer I would never recommend not cleaning equipment it will reduce the life of the equipment and affect the efficiency if your do end up cleaning your skimmer just put it on a stand for a few weeks this will help it settle then remove the stand as the stand lifts the skimmer out the water and stops it over flowing or lower your baffle in your sump

Great video, what is your tank size on the video?
Thank you so much buddy. My tank is a 525L system! 🙌
Have you considered using nudibranchs for the aiptasia?
Wrote this before you got to that part lol

Would it not be better to clean the skimmer collection cup in RO rather than tap water
Hi mate, not really - , this doesn't come in contact with the water in the aquarium. Save yourself the extra hassle 💪
