When I was living in NYC, I worked for some Orthodox Jews. This lady made me a whole room for me to make salah, complete with a Qur'an and she would even remind me for salah. An announcement by the UK Liberal government at the time that was not binding on any subsequent UK government and had no standing in international.law, since Palestine was the responsibility of the League of Natons ( which later became the United Nations). It was arranged as a deal with Jews in America and Russia for their continued support for WWI which in the end was not forthcoming and therefore the UK government was under no moral obligation to deliver on their side of the deal. It's interesting that the number of Jews in Palestine actually dropped after the Balfour Declaration. By 1937 the UK government was blatantly ignoring the Balfour Declaration and although many Jews were heading to Israel to escape persecution in Europe the British were trying to prevent their entry. During WW2 huge numbers of Jews fleeing the holocaust were either sent back to Europe by the British or interned in Cyprus. By 1947 the UK government considered their position with regard to the ending of the Palestine Mandate and decided to reject a 2 state solution due to the fact that the Arabs outnumbered the Jews 2 to 1 and would simply take the country by force. Israel received some modest assistance from France and Czechoslovakia. So no, Britain had no part in this problem. As a Tunisian i can confirm what the rabbi said, even if we are a muslim country, we still protect the oldest synagogue in Tunisia, and possibly all of Africa, El Ghriba synagogue who goes back to the high priests' escape following the destruction of the of Solomon's Temple in the year 586 BCE.
As Tunisians, we never thought about our jewish fellow citizen as nothing less then our equals the same goes with our christian brothers, we even had some jewish state secretarys. For centurys we was helping each others, we as muslims was helping them on saturday with the shabbat (we took care of their businesses for them on that day for exemple), and they was keeping an eyes on our businesses on friday (when we went to the Mosque for the jummah prayer), the patron saint of Tunis (the capital city) Sidi Mahrez was highly respected for allowing the jewish to take cover inside the medina (the old fortified arab town) of Tunis during the war between Sunnis and Shi'ites in Tunisia 945 CE.
The only incidents betwen our communities started after the creation on the "infamous state" and even then it was "just" some isolated actions resolting in minor dommage on properties. After Operation Wooden Leg in 1985 where the "infamous state" bombed and killed more then 80 tunisians and palesinians for hosting the PLO, there was some burned shops and dommaged properties but the most sad was the lost of trust between us, even if there is still a TUNISIAN jewish communities in Tunisia today, they started to be afraid of the muslims since then, and the muslims lost trust in their jewish borthers even if they're the first to speak against that "infamous state" :/

The idea, that a religion needs its own country, does not agree with secularism , and therefore does not agree with democracy in the US. Many forms of christianity actually teach that the role of civil government must be subservient to Christianity and their religious based rules. I am quite sure that is not what the founders had in mind. Separation of church and state was fundamental to constitutional originalism.

I'm a Christian, and very embarrassed by the behaviour of some of my fellow Christians, both past and present. Please know not all of us are like this. I love both Muslims and Jews as family. @peacehope7365 That would be the Balfour Declaration. An announcement by the UK Liberal government at the time that was not binding on any subsequent UK government and had no standing in international.law, since Palestine was the responsibility of the League of Natons ( which later became the United Nations). It was arranged as a deal with Jews in America and Russia for their continued support for WWI which in the end was not forthcoming and therefore the UK government was under no moral obligation to deliver on their side of the deal.
It's interesting that the number of Jews in Palestine actually dropped after the Balfour Declaration.
By 1937 the UK government was blatantly ignoring the Balfour Declaration and although many Jews were heading to Israel to escape persecution in Europe the British were trying to prevent their entry. During WW2 huge numbers of Jews fleeing the holocaust were either sent back to Europe by the British or interned in Cyprus.
By 1947 the UK government considered their position with regard to the ending of the Palestine Mandate and decided to reject a 2 state solution due to the fact that the Arabs outnumbered the Jews 2 to 1 and would simply take the country by force. Therefore the British decided to support Palestine as a single Arab state with the Jews as a protected minority. However the UN and US didn't like this idea and went for a 2 state solution.
In 1948 Israel declared independence for their part of the 2 state solution and the Palestinians together with Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Iraq attacked Israel with the stated intention of exterminating the Jews. However, they lost, and Israel not only secured its territory but took some more besides.
During the 1948 Arab - Israeli War the UK and USA were convinced the Jews were doomed. Neither the UK nor the British offered assistance to the Jews. In fact Britain, which had a close relationship with Jordan, actually supported Jordan in seizing territory from Israel. Israel received some modest assistance from France and Czechoslovakia.
So no, Britain had no part in this problem. It was caused by the UN and the fact the Arabs lost the Arab Israeli War despite vastly outnumbering the Jews. The Balfour Declaration is used by both sides as a propaganda tool but it isn't really relevant. The Jews use it as they appear to want the world to breve that being on the right side of Brirish Imperialism legitimises their claim to Israel ( even though Mandatory Palestine was not part of the British Empire) and the Arabs use it to put the blame on the West for the Jews presence in Palestine because they know that encouraging the West to resolve the isdue on their behalf is the only way they can get what they want since they are clearly too weak to force a solution themselves.
