    Really cool seeing this new press. Love my old Lee classic turret... use it all the time even though I have a Dillon. Not sure I'll splurge for one of these newer presses, but man does it look good. Thanks so much for sharing this with us! Looks like Lee put a lot of thought into this new press. Hope you have a great weekend!

    Looks like a nice press. If I didn’t already have a classic turret press I’d be interested. One thing I wish Lee would change is the safety prime system. Not my favorite priming system.

      Hi Jesse. I’ve never liked it either. It’s dang near as fast to just manually place a primer in the primer arm, or prime off press! 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸

    I never thought I would go back but I have all but quit using the 4 hole turret press, now I use an APP along with a single stage RCBS Jr., although as you know, I do mostly small batches of rifle and very little pistol.

    • @viejo2a
      @viejo2a  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I am not a fan of my 4-hole press for rifle rounds, and I’m sure this will be the same. To my mind, Rifle are best done on a single stage with the exception of high-volume stuff like 223. Thanks for chiming in. It’s good to hear from you. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸

    • @cw2a
      @cw2a 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I am exactly same.
      The lil Classic 4 hole is not a good choice for med and large bottle neck rifle. I dont use for any bottleneck. This (most all) lee presses do not cam over. I dont like that. But for straight wall pistol its a awesome lil press I ise for all my pistol stuff and like it allot.
      I know what it is. I know its gonna break/wear out before it should. Its a consume-able I know this going in.
      I like some attributes of this new press.
      Thanks Walter!

    Lee and Dillon seem like the only reloading companies left that still innovate on a regular basis... seems like RCBS, Redding, Hornady and all the others have been stagnant for atleast the last decade or so... I really wish that Redding would update their Turret press. I love my T7, but a semi auto version would be king! Specially when I don't have as much time to spend at the bench like I used too...

    Nice review on this new press, Walter. I contacted John Lee, and he is 100% committed to providing reloaders with efficient ammo loading. He does not believe in single stage presses. And he does not like the other manufacturer turret presses as they are all C designs - when pressure is applied, the tipping forces on the central axis are major. We know that Lyman and Redding have buttressing at the 180 degree position to offset this weakness. All the new Lee presses were designed to be strong O designs. The more ergonomic handle is a plus. Nice video, Walter.... Steve

    • @viejo2a
      @viejo2a  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Rusty. I do believe that is part of Lee’s plan. The foundation of this press is the same as what’s on the 6-pack, minus obvious differences such as the ram, shell plate, etc. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸

  • @GiantPinhead
    @GiantPinhead 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Good start. Very interesting. I'm sticking with my Classic Cast Turret for now, with complete satisfaction within the parameters of what that press is. Frankly, hanging all the extra primer doodads at the top of the press reminds me of a vacuum cleaner "tool caddy" that always gets in the way. Time will tell, I suppose.

    • @The2ndProtectsTheRest
      @The2ndProtectsTheRest 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You have to look at the bigger picture at hand here. This press was meant to accompany the SIXPACK Pro. All of Lee's presses moving forward will be breech lock. Make your smaller batches of ammo on the turret press or use it for load development, then, once you find that perfect load, just take your dies out and pop them in the Sixpack and you're off to the races!

    • @WilliamCChapin
      @WilliamCChapin 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@The2ndProtectsTheRest I fully embrace that concept. The challenge is that I haven’t found the die adjustment to be consistent from one type of press to another. It would be very useful if a Breech Lock die could be removed from a progressive like the 4000 or 6000 and used for a single operation in a Breech Lock Challenger without adjustment. I doubt that a configured die can be truly interchanged between an Ultimate Turret and any other Breech Lock press.

    I bet Lyman shellholders won't fit at all due to their large diameter. I looked hard at this press when I wanted another turret as I wanted to move back away from progressives due to modern component costs. I "ultimately" went with the Lyman All American 8. I've owned many of LEE's turret presses over the years starting with their first 3 hole many year ago and since have had multiples of them all except this new ultimate. It would be hard for anyone to argue against their classic iron turret press if one can get by with four dies, but I didn't like the "gimmicky" appeal of the ultimate and so I bought the Lyman which is a massive very strong press at 23 pounds, but it has more ram slop than any press I've owned so I wouldn't load rifle ammo (except for AR 10's & 15's) on it, but it's just fine for pistol ammo. The LEE classic loads fine hunting, target and match grade rifle fodder, but I've sold all three of those as well.

    • @viejo2a
      @viejo2a  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ve upgraded this one now, and still am not a fan. It doesn’t do enough extra from the 4-hole classic to warrant its purchase for most recreational loaders. My T-7 is a great press, with very little play in the ram. Thanks so much for stopping by! 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸

    • @hercules1073
      @hercules1073 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@viejo2a I'm glad I decided against it. I wish I'd chose the T-7, but I opted for the 8th hole! I had purchased the victory when Lyman released it and my specimen had the tightest tolerances you could ask for so I had high hopes for the turret and too I have a literal ton of Lyman's products. I don't have issues with cases not going straight into the dies so it hasn't caused any problems as of yet and if it does in the future I have the warranty at least.

      Hi Ronald. I also deprime mostly on the Lee Reloader, except for a new large batch of range brass, then the APP goes to work.
