2023 Lexus RC F Track Edition Review - Is It A $100K Driving Experience?

  • The RC F Track Edition is a rear wheel drive hoon mobile with a glorious, naturally aspirated V8. But... so is the regular RC F. So does the additional $30K+ truly make this model track capable?

    Its the fastest Lexus sold now to date and the fastest RCF around a track. Its a duel purpose GT that you can take to the track with zero issues. FYI it weighs as much as a M2 and less than a M4. I own one after testing a older gen RCF with TVD , M4 GTS , R8 Gen 1. Walked away loving the TE/Fuji...its just such a great car for occasional track and duel personality needs. After a track event ....atkinson cycle back home its like you dont have a V8 anymore. Its a car that you kinda fall in love with. And trust me i was German all the way. And to be honest the LC is far to heavy and is not performance oriented to be considered and the trans will actually overheat if you take it on a track at its highest. This car is a gem and im happy to pull the trigger on one enjoying the engineering on it. Also LFA brakes are just epic and the aero are levels above after market offerings.

    "Not a $100K track monster". Lexus never intended it to be that. It is just a more track focused version of the RCF, but the formula is the same. I own an RCF Carbon Fiber/Torque Vectoring version. It is cheaper than the Track Edition at $90K. Never seen a lower optioned RCF than $80K so RCF TE price sounds more appealing when considering RCF costs no less than $80K even with the lowest spec off showroom. The transmission does need to be thoroughly warmed up and Topher was completely correct. It takes forever and is night'day when warmed up. People who own RCF Track Edition (I know many) seem to love this car. One of the owners in Germany did a 7:48 around Nurburgring with traffic and as a non-pro driver. There is something to be said about that. A pro driver without traffic holding up and better tires, could easily see a 7:40 lap time. I track mine as well once in a while. Keep in mind, RCF even the TE form is a street car (that is why it still has all of the luxuries and rear seats) so it is rather undertired. They are very conservative size/load rating of PS4S tires on staggered setup with small front tires. It is a safe staggered setup relatively small 255 up front. BMW M overtires its cars. I believe, the M2 at similar weight of 3840 lbs, has wider tires than the RCF. Easily with a lot more aggressive tires with high load rating, the chassis' inherent high rigidity to really put the power down shines. Though, mine has the optional torque vectoring differential making the rear very lively and understeer minimal, which makes the car a lot more oversteer biased than the Torsen LSD version found on the base model and the track edition. Fact remains, it is still the best handling Lexus ever made other than the Lexus LFA.

    "This transmission is not able to keep up with what I am asking of it." ... What? It's literally shifting just as quickly as it was later in the video. All it took was TheTopher telling you it needed to warm up for you to forgive it. Unbelievable.

    • @youtubasoarus
      @youtubasoarus ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, I caught the delay right around when he said it was delayed. It was delayed when the transmission was cold, as was said. What's unbelievable is that you have to warm up this transmission for it to perform properly. I've heard this in no other vehicle.

      @@youtubasoarus Proper oil and transmission temps for track work are nothing new and well understood in the industry. Lexus wants you to have fun, but not at the cost of overall reliability and longevity. Any manufacturer who will allow you to rip up a cold engine does not expect it to last long term. Period.

    More performance over the standard RCF. If you really like the standard RCF why wouldn't you pony up for the track edition.
    100K ? You Americans only purchase the lease repayment anyway.
    100K experience ? its the individual that places the value on things, price is a market force .

    This is probably the best demonstration video I've seen of how good this engine sounds. It's a shame the RC F is so disappointing otherwise, but I'd prefer that engine in the IS500 or LC500 anyway as a fun, practical daily.

    • @2ZZGE100
      @2ZZGE100 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You are right as pure street cars for comfort oriented driving, they do make more sense. I don't have a track edition RCF, but do own an RCF CF/TVD version (it is about $10K cheaper) and track mine. RCF is an amazing double duty car. Anything that can generate almost 1.00g average on the skidpad sustained going round in a circle over and over again, cannot be disappointing. All the TE needs, is a better tire setup since the OEM PS4S tires are more for street than for the track. They are no R888, Cup 2 or Trofeo R by any stretch resulting in the chassis overpowering them easily. If someone wants this engine and have a great double duty spirited driving/track oriented car then RCF is the best choice. Neither the LC500 nor the IS500 would fit that bill because they neither have the cooling systems nor their chassis/suspension is intended to be for that.

Even with regular maintenance those m5's start to light up the dash after the first yr. Well.. supposing you drive it like its supposed to be driven.

    @sunnysaenngarm5375 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    IMO this car is kinda pointless. Just get a regular RCF and use the extra money to make it better than this. Even then who would get this over an LC500? I think the issue with this car is that they originally made the platform for this car as a daily cruiser but decided to take that and make it into a track focused car, two completely differently driving aspects clashing with each other. The tech in this car is outdated (no added features to make the car heavier) and it’s a RWD coupe, so where’s this 3800lbs coming from also?

    • @2ZZGE100
      @2ZZGE100 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yep. That is correct. I have an RCF CF/TVD and yes, it takes forever to warm up. About 10 - 15 minutes easily even on warm days. It is in limp mode until it is proper warmed up and completely changes character. It is very dim witted, slow and lifeless until it warms up and suddenly it becomes night/day and becomes very snappy and fast.
