my home is about a 15 min walk from where you stay in Nanjing University!!!! "Foreigner "外国人/老外 is just what Chinese call ppl from other country. We don't say it in an offensive way . I guess its because Chines is not as melting pot as US , so we don't see Westerner very often back in the days. 90% of the Chinese are not racist at all ,because we are so used to being one race ( black hair dark eyes) . Chinese are not as sensitive about races as Americans. Whenever we see Westerner , we just think it so cool , and can't help looking at them.so even though u might feel weird , confused etc, but PLZ DON'T FEEL OFFENDED , just because they didn't mean to hurt your feeling by calling you "foreigner". but I'm DO think they should come up with a better name instead of keep calling u guys foreigners. ps. thank you for the video
Aw this is really nice of you :) I definitely understand where you're coming from, but it was so hard to get to that point of understanding! America just has so many different kinds of people, and I'm so used to that. But actually to be honest, when I arrived back in the US, the first thing that seemed strange to me was that there were people of all races speaking native English. Hahaha it only took about a minute to get used to it again, but it was funny to notice it for the first time :)
beijing is winter
nanjing is fall
canton is spring
hainan is summer
Han Chen canton?
George Dickinson 广州
George Dickinson guangzhou
Han Chen oooh ok
北京和南京中你选一个你选择南京,明智的选择
i love china too
I think what really touched me is when you said "I am happy that I am sad about leaving China". It's almost the exact feeling that I have about US.
Aww :) So you're Chinese and you've lived in the US but are headed back to China? Is that right?
fangpiking
Actually there are around 92% I remember Han Chinese in Chinese population. Not 99% because there are 56 official ethnicities.
南京nanjing and beijing北京。 jing京 means capital。before beijing。nanjing is capital of china

I want to give you 👍👍for realizing the change you have made. and to show us that we just have to stay positif even if in the beginning we think its never gonna work.
Thank you so much! :) #fearlessfam
What Marlene said is so true. I had the same experience as a Chinese who now live and work in US.
fangpiking I hope its all better for you 😊
It's always nice to hear from someone else going through the same thing :)
erhu sound very sad
Cool
I lived in Nanjing for four years of pursuit my bachelor and my first love there, lots of memories. this video makes me back to years ago.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it :) I made a ton of NJ videos, so if you want to reminisce more, check out my Nanjing playlist on my channel!
Your Chinese pronunciation is really amazing considering thst you are there only for several months. You definitely have talent on language! Hope your Chinese improve a lot next time around
I'm flattered!
When are you heading home I will miss your China blogs Hope you are going to continue blogging back in the states
Headed home in only about a week!! AHHH! Crazy town. Definitely continuing with daily vlogs :)
I've just landed in China about a month ago. On my first night , I sat in my room and cried because a lot of things here bothered me--especially the smoking everywhere you go. There always seems to be 2nd hand smoke lingering somewhere--or maybe I'm just overly sensitive. I'm so glad to hear that you stuck it out despite your initial feelings. Maybe it won't be so bad for me here after all!
I cried myself to sleep for at least the first 4 nights!! Personally I don't think you're overly sensitive, just human :) I hate the second hand smoke too! I avoid it like the plague. Some restaurants and bars are really strict about it and those ones have quickly become my fave. Stick it out and it'll get better, I promise! I've got a video that may help you to realize you're not alone in your feelings - it's called the 5 emotions of moving abroad and I made it pretty early on in my China experience. Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/6yflh1ersZ0/w-d-xo.html
Thanks! I'll be sure to check the video out!
there are good sides and bad sides about China, which is normal. I wish you can find the best way to live there and enjoy your time in China.
I am Chinese Born and grow up here but I have not got used to the second hand smoke yet it’s sooooo annoying a lot of people hate it.
I wish China offered more non-smoking hotels. The smoking has made many of my trips to China unpleasant.
I've been to some rural areas in the US, felt like ppl were staring and trying not to have a conversation with me lol. Your videos are lovely, and so are you.
Thank you for your positive perspective about Nanjing, it changed so much after I left.
Totally late to the game, but your comments about patience about moving to a new area is hitting home, hard! I totally need to remind myself that moving to a new city is hard and making friends will take time. Kinda afraid of making friends in San Francisco, not sure why?
I grew up in Nanjing! Wow. :) I moved to the UK as a kid, still experiencing UK culture shock it feels like.
Lauren. I love your video. I felt most of Americans are quite honest and genuine.
Wow! Nice weather and blue sky in Nanjing! Looks great! Haha! Thanks for the video! I like the "snack kingdom" too..... er...It makes me feel hungry now... haha
#alwayshungry
I've been going through your videos, what are you doing in China lol I can't find that one. I'm moving to Shenzhen in February to teach
Haha yeah I'm in a unique situation. This will explain it: th-cam.com/video/-WwO6hMXJvs/w-d-xo.html. But basically I'm here with my husband who is studying. I'm just on a family Visa so I have no concrete purpose for being in China, but the 2 reasons I came: I love to travel, and I've always wanted to be a self-employed blogger/vlogger. This was the opportunity I needed to focus solely on growing my channel and blog since I'm not employed here :)
Let's make friends

Please don't feel offensive when there is Chinese point out at you and saying foreigner, the Chinese is curious about the foreigner about the face, and language, because the foreigner is still few in China especially in the small cities, they are not rude, just curious.
This is now my perspective on it as well. It took a long time for me to feel okay with it happening, though, because you have to understand how that got filtered through my American brain :)
hahahah, you are smart.
You read ebook with a Kindle fire? Kindle paperwhite is a better choice. I love my Kindle paperwhite!
Mine was given to me free second hand so I can't complain :)
I once had one, then I gave it to my boyfriend... FireOS sucks!
The response on games is super slow!
This is Shanghai Lu right?
Yes!! :) Are you from NJ?
Yeah! I've been living in Nanjing for one year now, it's been amazing lol
My hometown
I love Nanjing :)
