    my home is about a 15 min walk from where you stay in Nanjing University!!!! "Foreigner "外国人/老外 is just what Chinese call ppl from other country. We don't say it in an offensive way . I guess its because Chines is not as melting pot as US , so we don't see Westerner very often back in the days. 90% of the Chinese are not racist at all ,because we are so used to being one race ( black hair dark eyes) . Chinese are not as sensitive about races as Americans. Whenever we see Westerner , we just think it so cool , and can't help looking at them.so even though u might feel weird , confused etc, but PLZ DON'T FEEL OFFENDED , just because they didn't mean to hurt your feeling by calling you "foreigner". but I'm DO think they should come up with a better name instead of keep calling u guys foreigners. ps. thank you for the video

      Aw this is really nice of you :) I definitely understand where you're coming from, but it was so hard to get to that point of understanding! America just has so many different kinds of people, and I'm so used to that. But actually to be honest, when I arrived back in the US, the first thing that seemed strange to me was that there were people of all races speaking native English. Hahaha it only took about a minute to get used to it again, but it was funny to notice it for the first time :)

    I think what really touched me is when you said "I am happy that I am sad about leaving China". It's almost the exact feeling that I have about US.

    I've just landed in China about a month ago. On my first night , I sat in my room and cried because a lot of things here bothered me--especially the smoking everywhere you go. There always seems to be 2nd hand smoke lingering somewhere--or maybe I'm just overly sensitive. I'm so glad to hear that you stuck it out despite your initial feelings. Maybe it won't be so bad for me here after all!

    • @LaurenWithoutFear
      @LaurenWithoutFear  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I cried myself to sleep for at least the first 4 nights!! Personally I don't think you're overly sensitive, just human :) I hate the second hand smoke too! I avoid it like the plague. Some restaurants and bars are really strict about it and those ones have quickly become my fave. Stick it out and it'll get better, I promise! I've got a video that may help you to realize you're not alone in your feelings - it's called the 5 emotions of moving abroad and I made it pretty early on in my China experience. Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/6yflh1ersZ0/w-d-xo.html

    I've been to some rural areas in the US, felt like ppl were staring and trying not to have a conversation with me lol. Your videos are lovely, and so are you.
    Thank you for your positive perspective about Nanjing, it changed so much after I left.

    Totally late to the game, but your comments about patience about moving to a new area is hitting home, hard! I totally need to remind myself that moving to a new city is hard and making friends will take time. Kinda afraid of making friends in San Francisco, not sure why?

      Haha yeah I'm in a unique situation. This will explain it: th-cam.com/video/-WwO6hMXJvs/w-d-xo.html. But basically I'm here with my husband who is studying. I'm just on a family Visa so I have no concrete purpose for being in China, but the 2 reasons I came: I love to travel, and I've always wanted to be a self-employed blogger/vlogger. This was the opportunity I needed to focus solely on growing my channel and blog since I'm not employed here :)

    Please don't feel offensive when there is Chinese point out at you and saying foreigner, the Chinese is curious about the foreigner about the face, and language, because the foreigner is still few in China especially in the small cities, they are not rude, just curious.
