I didn't have a relationship with my family well my living siblings. So I prayed to God to give me my own family like a husband and kids and he granted my wish. Our mom and dad is gone and they still dislike me today.

At 13, I courageously spoke out against the abuse by my stepfather, but instead of protection, I was sent to live with a church acquaintance, ending my education. Forced to work at 13, I became independent. Ironically, I'm the child my mother has spent the most time with, she’s now living with me at 85. I've had to break the cycle of abandonment, giving my mother the love and care she never provided. By doing so, I'm cultivating a legacy of love and healing for myself and my children.

My bio mother was just like this. She wanted to claim my success and never scarfice one thing. And I told her if I had to do it again and had a say I would not change one thing. Her other girls are messed up. One have to have a man at any cost, the other one is follower. Can't make a decision on her own. And the last one is an addict. Nope, I am good.

I experienced the same thing as Simone. My grandmother ultimately raised me, my mom was dealing with addictions. I gave my mother grace. Simone has been successful, this is her last Olympics. Now that’s she no longer competing this is the best time to get to know her Mom. She doesn’t have to give her mom money to build a relationship. Forgiveness is very important, Simone is going to be a Mom too she’d want the same thing if roles were reversed. This life can be hard, we should love those who messed up. Just my opinion being the daughter of a former addicted mother.

It's so true as I get older I notice things about my parents and my Mom has actually told me some disturbing things that happened to her and she never got therapy. She went to church and sometimes people think that's enough but even Gods word says in Proverbs 11:14 New King James Version (NKJV) - Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety. Go to therapy people, talking to myself too! I've been but want to restart it. Get healed so your children won't have to deal with it or you will have the tools to help them.
Very true about the parents I told my mother when she was here that she was the best mother she knew how to be. I'm glad I'm here she had other options but I'm here. Not saying the media is blameless, but neither is the mother. Trauma, addiction and mental illness can provide an explanation for behaviors, but it is NEVER an excuse to justify actions. My bio mother was just like this. She wanted to claim my success and never scarfice one thing. And I told her if I had to do it again and had a say I would not change one thing. Her other girls are messed up. One have to have a man at any cost, the other one is follower. Can't make a decision on her own. And the last one is an addict. Nope, I am good.
I agree with you Shuler. My parents made very bad decisions with my brother and sisters. But, before my mother died she apologized about what she did and for the first time she hugged me real close. She died the next morning.

I experienced the same thing as Simone. My grandmother ultimately raised me, my mom was dealing with addictions. I gave my mother grace. Simone has been successful, this is her last Olympics. Now that’s she no longer competing this is the best time to get to know her Mom. She doesn’t have to give her mom money to build a relationship. Forgiveness is very important, Simone is going to be a Mom too she’d want the same thing if roles were reversed. This life can be hard, we should love those who messed up. Just my opinion being the daughter of a former addicted mother.

It's so true as I get older I notice things about my parents and my Mom has actually told me some disturbing things that happened to her and she never got therapy. She went to church and sometimes people think that's enough but even Gods word says in Proverbs 11:14 New King James Version (NKJV) - Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety. Go to therapy people, talking to myself too! I've been but want to restart it. Get healed so your children won't have to deal with it or you will have the tools to help them.

Trauma, addiction and mental illness can provide an explanation for behaviors, but it is NEVER an excuse to justify actions. If Simone decides to grant her mother the opportunity to rekindle their relationship, that is fine, but her mother is in no way entitled to any thing of the sort.

She didn't destroy the family. She helped her children by turning them over to people in a better position to help. Had she dragged those kids in her life then yes, she would have destroyed her family. Everyone cannot live up to the expectation of perfection. We don't know of her story as to how she became addicted to drugs. She might have been abused, etc. We should be blasting the media for interviewing her.
