Am I the only one who wanted her to be a part of the family instead of killing them all. I love a good cult film that progresses together instead of having the MC go back to being a normal human person.
If they wanted to save money, instead of burning the house down, they could have just had Walt snap Evie's neck and entomb her for her insubordination. Then a handsome ginger rescues her and they fall in love. And the gingers sister then becomes Walt's new submissive. Now Dracula has his complete set of brides. A blonde, a brunette and a redhead.
This was an unfortunate moment when the trailer gave away everything about the movie. Going in, I knew about the DNA test starting the story off, I knew she was going to be forced to marry the guy against her will, and I knew this was about vampires. I wasn’t surprised by anything, simply because the trailer gave it all away. I appreciated aspects of the movie, but I did feel it fell short. Interestingly, she said “Where are the groom and bride?” many times in the trailer, but I only remember her asking once in the actual movie.
I am a sucker (haha) for vampire films so I was really looking forward to this and I really wanted to like it. I wish it had been rated R and much spicier. And I wish she would have gotten out of that situation but stayed a powerful vampire. Like in Wir Sind Die Nacht, an excellent take on the feministic vampire (Lucy and Victoria reminded me of two characters in that movie, too)
I think this would have been an amazing 6 episode series on netflix. I personally enjoyed it but could definitely see where they could have expanded it and made it better
The actor’s portrayal of Dracula was a spot on impersonation of Sean Connery’s Bond, he even looked like Sir Connery (RIP) I believe he should be seriously considered for the role, the actor oozed 007’s personality
Hilarious presentation for sure. lol. Those vampires must of been wimps if they all get killed by one newbie vampire. I do like Nathalie Emmanuel as an actress. I'll have to watch it when it comes out on streaming.
Saw the movie last night and it was slow going at first. Damn near fell asleep but I popped my eyes open at the dinner table scene. I enjoyed the movie and based on this review, I'm going to watch it again when it comes on demand. Great review guys. I'm surprised Evie did not realize she was related to the lady in the picture. They looked alike.
Nick, I always love your introductions, don't ever change! You guys are authentic and original! Next time I check, you guys will be at fifteen thousand subs, I'm so happy!!!!
The bits when Joseph and Nick talk about women’s agency made me recall Angela Carter’s THE BLOODY CHAMBER (1979), and the adaptation of her work as Neil Jordan’s THE COMPANY OF WOLVES (1984), and also Margaret Atwood’s BLUEBEARD’S EGG (1983). I’m stalking through the back catalogue of your reviews and loving every moment, pausing to record several of your expressions. 👏🏽✊🏽
This had all the pieces of Cruel Intentions, Queen of the Damned, Ghost, Dracula 2000, Tales From the Crypt, Get Out, Death Becomes Her, Ready or Not, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Gotham(hence Alfred reference and the actor who played Alfred in Gotham playing the butler 😹 etc.). I too called this The Mehgan Markle story and also thought of Zoe Kravitz, nice Angel Heart connection. This basically is what it's like when you marry a narcissist 🧛🏽♂️
I wish the plot twist would have been like Evie knew all along about the tradition, Dracula, her ancestor, etc., and like she studied the history for years and was set out to kill them all. It was like going to the manor was all part of her plan only to deceive them. But vampires can read minds, so perhaps the writers thought it wasn't a plausible plot twist. Lol
I noticed the main character had an outlander shirt on so I knew the tone and target audience they were going for. I appreciated it at least evoked an atmosphere but every time they obscured the gore for that PG13 rating, I rolled my eyes. I really liked that shot where the vampire hands scratch against the drapes. Technically, the movie is pretty well made but woah is it ridiculous
2 1/2 out of 5 is the same for me. I will say after watching the trailer after I watched the film it gave away too much. We don’t get that dinner scene until 70 mins which is a bit too long. It’s a shame it couldn’t have had a little more to it considering I had the same thoughts about the acting and cinematography.
I liked this movie but I really wanted to love it! I wanted some well-made, seriously acted, cheesy, ridiculous black woman vampire romance- which it delivered but the ending was so anticlimactic. Also- the cultural accuracy of wearing a scarf to bed was cancelled by her jogging into the forest at night.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the original title. HOWEVER that means the plot should’ve been shifted. So instead of this romance that we know is going NOWHERE do the plot where we see her being a new Bride and shaking things up at the mansion 😂😂
Thanks for reviewing. I’m a sucker for Dracula films and this geek wanted to see this. I’m with you though would have liked a movie more on the wife’s. And being a bram stoker fan. Interesting Jonathan and Mina are shop keepers. 🤔
I swear I thought of MM and the royals too when I watched this. LOL. It was a cute movie. I like her girlfriend; I thought she was funny. The whole storyline was obvious to me.
I did 23 and Me. I probably got a clone walking around somewhere. 😏 Dracula does look like Udo Kier. I had no business watching Blood for Dracula when I was younger. 🤭 I wish they didn't show so much in the trailer.
I liked how Evie handled the wedding, however, she could have rocked the family! Visually beautiful and loaded with atmosphere, the second half is disappointing in its predictability!
Ohhhh Angel Heart! I remember seeing that at the theatre when I was abt. 15yrs old and loving it yet being traumatized. I had a thing for Mickey Rourke and the bloody love scene had me perplexed. I wish you guys would review it. They don’t make films like Angel Heart anymore.
I am never going to enjoy a Jane Austin themed (tour of architecture/anything) or a dinner party invite post covid ever AGAIN 😳considering films: Get Out, Ready or Not, The Invitation, The Menu and The Invitation (2022). Rich folks stay tripping in those lavish country estates, damn 🙄😒. However I can go in for being Mrs. Sexy Dracula, dude was foooiiiinnne-FINE, as "Dracula" should be *in any film*
I agree the start was good. I just wish Evie would have accepted her faith and we got to see how the brides get along. My favorite parts of Van Helsing were the Bride scenes.
When Nick screamed the invitation I cackled!! I almost expected him to put his hands and fingers together like a cartoon 18th century Dandy-styled super villian combined with full sinister smile 😂😂😂😂
The trailer for this made me think it's another ready or not attempt type movie. 🤔 I'm glad it takes a different supernatural twist. I think it would have benefitted from an R rating.
I know this is a crazy comment but I was hoping that when evie killed Dracula that she would become the new lord somehow and use her powers to bring down the family alliances. I know the story’s that all vampires turn to human when the head vampire is killed.., but that would have been a cool twist in my humble opinion.
I've said this a hundred times, I feel that everything coming out of Hollywood is so rushed. They're thinking about Money & budgets! Like a sale at Walmart! NOT! We don't want to buy our movies on clearance! We want the whole story & put the time in! Movie stars don't matter either! They should have never put stars on such a pedestal. No one should make millions on a movie! I don't care who's playing the part as long as the story is good & the star cares enough to put everything into it. Hollyweird is just trying to make money! As many movies as possible!! And it's killing them. I've been watching TH-cam blogs more than movies lately because there more exciting!!! Just as I no longer watch the news! TH-cam bloggers do the work & tell the truth more than any media site. Sooooooo, Hollywood better recognize 😉 😏 😎
Honestly, it should have focused more on the wives. Imagine the dialogue. The 500 year long wife could make an argument of a long standing and successful relationship.
Dracula. It is the main character in vampire movies usually. If you’re making it all about the women that would be entirely different movie series I think they did a good job of making her a strong woman who didn’t become a victim.
They tried to make it similar to get out with none of the intelligent thought, history, and emotion tied to that historical oppression of women and more specifically a black woman, and nuance that made get out great
I liked the movie and I appreciated that they started out with her story and the romance because otherwise when the action starts I don’t really care about the character if they don’t have any pre-story. Did you really watch the movie? Dracula does not tell her how the ceremony blood exchange works. One of the girls told her
This film felt so YA to me. I had no idea what this film was about going into it, but immediately I got a CW TV series vibe and was a little turned off. As soon as I saw blondie at the party dressed like a flapper, I knew some undead stuff was afoot. I was like, they're either ghosts or vampires. Also, I didn't find Dracula attractive. This movie was so meh. It could have been SO good. I was kinda here for having a person who was part black be the main character, you never see that in these types of movies. It's like, FINALLY! It's our turned to be pursued by a rich toxic asshole!
I was expecting you two to give this half a star!!! The way y’all were describing this was confusing ( not y’all fault at all ) just was hard to follow. I saw Dracula on broadway as a kid. That said, I have always compared all Dracula movies and plays to Love at First Bite!!!!! Hahahaha. Once you get through all the confusion it sounds decent but not worth the price of actually going to the movies to see this. When I saw the trailer for this; it reminded me of Ready or Not. Am I wrong? After, your review I know it is not. Thanks great job as usual.
I want to like this video but I don't want to be number 666 🤣, I agree with y'all entire review. By the end I was ready for it to be over and that's when the action really started. To be fair I'm not a fan of vampire movies, so there's that lol. However I do wonder, cause correct me if I'm wrong but I remember that if Dracula turned a human to a vampire, that once he dies, so do they. It seems like everyone that does vampire movies seem to forget that lately. Also if I know that one of the 3 ways I can be killed is by burning, there wouldn't be any candles in my mansion at all 🤣Like get a lightbulb man lol. I also didn't like that we don't have a clue if Evie is still a vampire or not. The movie is watchable but predictable as well.
I read that this movie is “great if you wanna be titillated, bad if you wanna be terrified” and y’all I would eat Thomas Doherty up (and the girl who plays Evie tbh) so imma watch it eventually just to be thirsty
I love this movie...but I, too, wanted her to be a part of the family. The only thing she had back was her friend, Grace. I think I would've taken the bite.
So, the tagline here was: Fine print says - "You are *cordially invited* to a *nightmare* generations in the making." Joseph: "I *assumed* it was a Horror film" :D Nick: "Panicked about the suicide of the Great Grandmother..." ;D Both of you were in your element!
Watched the unrated version and thought it was just okay. They actually show the lady that killed herself head coming off and rolling on the ground. I liked the acting, the story is where it fails mostly. Not enough of a horror movie and not enough of romance movie. This is a confused movie that didn't know what it wanted to be.
Yeah I had the same response of a Meghan Markel feel, however I think they was building a romance for ivy so when she get hit w/ her own wedding it might go smoothly. Just one of those plot twist ending. Not a bad film though.
Big vampire hint New Carfax Abby🧛 Spoilers!!! After the fact the main character runs into John and Mina Harker and one of the wives is named Lucy. If anyone attempts another Dracula movie it should be Guillermo Del Toro… Or the twins who directed IT parts one and two. Waste of good leads🤷🏻♀️
I actually like the movie. I watched it on HBO. I did think it was about vampires from the beginning. The dying of the lady, then the young employees, the manor, to me all that hinted vampires. I thought the acting was good. The going for a run at night scene was ridiculous and out of character for someone like her. But overall it was a good movie. Not the best but not horrible
This movie was funny af! I kept laughing the whole time! That first scene was really good! The friend was my fave but I hate that she got snubbed the way they only allowed her to phone in her performance.
With this movie, I had too many questions. I think it would have made it slightly less obvious, is if they had a decoy couple to be married. I think she would have asked less questions & it would have made it less awkward. Also the storyline with how she's related to the Alexanders was a lil dumb to me. Her mom could have just been white and her dad be black and she just be biracial. Her great grandmother didn't need to have had a affair with a black man for evie to come out the way she did. I just thought that was extra for no reason. Either way alot of plot holes that could have been better scripted. Other than that the movie was OK.
I really fucking love these two!! I would love to just hangout one day!! Please contact me if you're ever in Chicago!! I perform at the BassmentChi every Friday night 9pm. (with my Band) I'm also the booking agent there! Angela Martin is my name...lol
You are right:Like the Orphan, First Kill...I don't think there were any women in the damn writing room. (not sure I'll need to check) A feminist twist would have KILLED. LITERALLY AND FIGURATIVELY. Alas, sigh..
A much, much better film also titled ‘The Invitation’ is from 2015, directed by Karyn Kusama and starring Logan Marshall-Green. It’s creepy, suspenseful and unsettling.
" Dracula's wife: the Meghan Markle story" Nick is hilarious! Y'all have the funniest sense of humor, and bounce off each other perfectly.
I was about to make the same comment. This is her biopic.
I just heard this part 😩 When I tell you I hollered at this comment😂😂😂😂
I was literally thinking this throughout the entire movie lol
I am dead 💀 not Meg lol
I thought the same thing 😂😂 from start to finish
Am I the only one who wanted her to be a part of the family instead of killing them all. I love a good cult film that progresses together instead of having the MC go back to being a normal human person.
I'm all for that!
No, I kind of thought of that too. Why the hell not? Ha!
I thought she was going to become the new master.
my friend and I were in the theater like "hmm...I'd take eternal life and superpowers, I'd just say we have to pull a Dexter and eat bad people"
Thought they would do something different like that, but nope...same plot, different characters 😑
"You said Stephanie?"
"Jessica M. Thompson"
Lllol
"Of course you should think about it. It was presented to me, so I'm thinking about it."
Best response
The ending was so anticlimactic. They could of done anything. They did exactly what was expected.

Yes the trailer was basically the entire movie
Even the groundskeeper types telling on her when she thought she was safe 🙄😂😂😂
The trailer ruined all my interest in this film cause i knew the whole story from the it. Stupid way to market a movie
The trailer did give alllllllll of it away...I was almost hoping for canabolism just to have a plot twist....
@@jennycoyle8204 Aaaannnnddd the grounds keeper was named Mr. Harker i.e. "Jonathan Harker" wink 😉 wink
"It's presented to me, why shouldn't I think about it?" My thought on films exactly
Joseph’s face at the beginning, when Nick says and that’s Joseph! 🤣 Love you all so much!! ❤️🤣
The actress playing “Evy” is so pretty!

"She is marrying Dracula." "Walt, is Dracula" ... (sure), LOL :) love watching these reviews you two.

YESSS THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR REVIEWING THIS
I love your honesty about movies! You guys do a great job balancing the good vs. bad in movies. Thanks for the great review! ✌️
Oooo , just noticed your new intro! Mama like!❤️

The whole movie was given away in the trailer!!
I love your channel, guys! I feel as if I were having a chat with friends!
Me too!!!
Love you both! Can you review Starry Eyes? And Neon Demon? I absolutely need that energy
Thanks!
Thank you!
Joseph's look when Nick introduces him, gets me everytime
I wish it would have gotten an R rating and really leaned more into horror and been more graphic! So much potential
Do you think they should have gone with the original title - “The Bride” ? The studio apparently changed it to the current.
Well, the trailer gives so much away. I suppose calling it The Bribe would have left nothing.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the original title. HOWEVER that means the plot should’ve been shifted. So instead of this romance that we know is going NOWHERE do the plot where we see her being a new Bride and shaking things up at the mansion 😂😂
I didn't get this invitation though, but I am about to here. Lets go! Lets go!
I loved Evie in Game of Thrones! Awesome casting, definitely wish the trailer hadn’t given so much of it away
Thanks for reviewing. I’m a sucker for Dracula films and this geek wanted to see this. I’m with you though would have liked a movie more on the wife’s. And being a bram stoker fan. Interesting Jonathan and Mina are shop keepers. 🤔
and as a person who lost her parents at 21 and 29 I say we old orphans :)
Would be nice for y'all do a video of y'all top 5 best and worst movies for 2022.
We will.
I swear I thought of MM and the royals too when I watched this. LOL. It was a cute movie. I like her girlfriend; I thought she was funny. The whole storyline was obvious to me.
I did 23 and Me. I probably got a clone walking around somewhere. 😏
Dracula does look like Udo Kier. I had no business watching Blood for Dracula when I was younger. 🤭
I wish they didn't show so much in the trailer.
“Gonna get some hepatitis.” Lmfao 😂
I liked how Evie handled the wedding, however, she could have rocked the family! Visually beautiful and loaded with atmosphere, the second half is disappointing in its predictability!
"Well of course we should think about it it was presented to me and I'm thinking about it" 😄😄😄
Im not gonna lie, I was not expecting Dracula as the antagonist...
GOT fans- Misandei plays a vampire in this and Greyworm is gonna be playing a vampire in the upcoming Interview with a Vampire series
OMG Yes UDO KEIR!!!!!! BOTH beautiful men! I own both his Frankenstein and Dracula movies on dvd.
Dracula does have a supernatural charisma which causes women to be attracted to him, so that explains the fast romance.
I am never going to enjoy a Jane Austin themed (tour of architecture/anything) or a dinner party invite post covid ever AGAIN 😳considering films: Get Out, Ready or Not, The Invitation, The Menu and The Invitation (2022). "Dracula will trick your ass" 🤣❤️😂
I agree the start was good. I just wish Evie would have accepted her faith and we got to see how the brides get along. My favorite parts of Van Helsing were the Bride scenes.
When Evie first gets to her room there are no mirrors. That was my first clue that they were vampires.
the first thing I said was this feel like a combination of Get Out and Ready or Not...
I loved this movie. Big fan of Nathalie since GOT. Her & her friend were hilarious. The trailer gave everything away 🙄 but still enjoyed it.
Hello, I'm a newer Dan of u guys, do u have any new movie recommendations? Preferably not mainstream. Thank you, great review
This sounds like ready or not
When Nick screamed the invitation I cackled!! I almost expected him to put his hands and fingers together like a cartoon 18th century Dandy-styled super villian combined with full sinister smile 😂😂😂😂
I got 'Ready or Not' vibes from the trailer
I saw the version, that showed her being decapitated in the beginning. There's a few scenes that were different from the PG version.
Old Timey Times! 😂
The trailer for this made me think it's another ready or not attempt type movie. 🤔 I'm glad it takes a different supernatural twist. I think it would have benefitted from an R rating.
Could of been like GET OUT if it was rated R.

I thought Dracula looked very similar to Rami Malek and funny enough one of the wives plays Joanna Wellick in Mr Robot
Honestly, it should have focused more on the wives. Imagine the dialogue. The 500 year long wife could make an argument of a long standing and successful relationship.
Impression of Nick: "Sure."
If you saw the trailer for this you would have known everything. I wish i didn’t see it i would have wanted to see this
Why would you tell someone you’re forcing to do something how it works? Definitely a villain trait that I wish they would drop entirely.
Dracula. It is the main character in vampire movies usually. If you’re making it all about the women that would be entirely different movie series I think they did a good job of making her a strong woman who didn’t become a victim.
Wait so y’all don’t know the lead actress is an important character in Game of Thrones. Missandei

I kinda like the ideal of a movie like this having been a vehicle for Lisa Bonet, earlier in her career.

Very telling of Sam Ramini pulling out of this movie, where it could've went, could've been a good movie, could've been scary. I was so disappointed.
The great grandmother definitely decapitated herself. It's in the 'unrated' version.

Also, this movie attacked me. My ex had a goatee. 👀
The main character becomes the master of the house. Starts eating men. The movie could of done something different.
Old-timey 😂
She is being forced into the marriage though
A much, much better film also titled ‘The Invitation’ is from 2015, directed by Karyn Kusama and starring Logan Marshall-Green. It’s creepy, suspenseful and unsettling.
