that was sooo much fun to watch! Those pac10 guard battles back then when Kidd went against Stanford, Arizona, etc. Brevin Knight was from my town, so I watched all those epic battles against J.Kidd, Damon Stoudamire, Khalid Reeves. Those games (& the BigEast Conference) made me a super fan of college basketball and follow their nba careers. You don't understand (I know u probably do) how great those guards were. J. Kidd was so big/fast/strong/smart, it was amazing how he absolutely dominated the game without shooting/scoring! #salute #brickcity

J.Kidd was also ambidextrous with both his handle and passing. 6’5 stronger, quicker, faster and moved laterally far better then Nash. Kidd was also the triple double man in his era. Nash was a better scorer and had a little flashier game. Over all I’d take J Kidd’s basketball iq and overall game over Nash’s scoring.

Steve Nash was my favorite player in the league for a number of years. I think offensively he was a more polished player and had a better off the ball game when the situations arose.
However, Jason's ability to guard, rebound and the fact that he could brutalize most guys his size or smaller on the box so he was like a miniature center, gives him a verrrry slight edge. IMO.
Also, with Kidd there's the What If of his knee injury. He was just getting going at an executive level when he sustained the injury.
He came back from it but who knows how dominant he would have been. That was right when he had started looking to score more. Plus, he was top 2 or 3 one on one defending PGs in the league.
But either way, they were both on some next level vision and delivery stuff.

Jason Kidd was about 4in away in height to being as great as Magic or even better because I believe he was able to play the floor even better than Magic, but still great and my favorite pg of all time. His ability to anticipate and just foresee things before it happened was just off the charts. Very reminiscent of Larry Bird, who was also very very aware of everything going on around him.

Kidd & Nash were great point guards during the 2000s. Both were phenomenal passers. Nash was a better shooter but Kidd was a better defender, two way player, & helped the Mavs in the title in 2011. Kidd also led the Nets to back to back finals appearances. They had to hide Nash on defense in Phoenix. I’m going with Jason Kidd over Nash

The great Mark Price was doing what Steve Nash was doing back in the mid to late 80s and early 90s. Mark Price was great at splitting the pick and roll and some say he used to make the two defenders that were trapping the pick and roll bump heads when he split them. Mark was the reason why Kevin Johnson couldnt get off the bench in Cleveland so they traded him to Phoenix for Hot Rod Williams. Price and Brad Daugherty were the east coast version of Stockton and Malone but I felt like Mark was a better scorer and long range shooter off the pick and roll than Stockton was. Both Mark and Brad were a great tandem until Jordan and injuries got the best of them.

Jason Kidd’s impact outways Nash’s skill by a wide margin in my opinion. Ppl forget that when Rick Carlisle put JJ Barea in the starting lineup in the finals, it forced Kidd to be the starting defender on LeBron. First game Carlisle made that adjustment was the 8 point game LeBron had. Also, Kidd joined the nets who had just finished with a record as one of the bottom 5 teams in the league. The year he gets there all they did was draft Jefferson, brought back the same core and then go to back to back finals. Lastly let’s not forget...he was able to lead the Knicks to a 2 seed. He was actually able to help a team with Carhellno Anthony on it function well and even win a playoff series. Second most impactful PG of all time after Magic. So many things he brings to the table that Nash’s skill just can’t match.

Steve Nash had a better team, but he was playing in a tougher conference. Jason Kidd had a worse team, but he was playing in a weaker conference. On the 2011 Mavericks, Jason Kidd was impactful, but he was not the focal point.
Despite these facts, I still think that Jason Kidd was the better player.

During Kidd's first stint playing in the Western Conference, he got knocked out of the first round of the playoffs several times. He made it to the second round only twice. During, his second stint in the Western Conference, he was not the focal point of the team.
Steve Nash got to the Western Conference Finals 3 times as the focal point on the Suns and once as as a complement to Dirk on the Mavs.
In my opinion, their team accomplishments are similar given what they did in their respective primes against the competition they faced, but as I said, I still think Kidd is a better player.

Melo was playing for leaders, who would teach him better ball, than a panicked team. The veterans were there to teach them and lead. They would tell them to SETTLE, gather, play D, and even HOLD BALL, stick to the offense and pass around! J-Kidd had better intangibles like his overall athleticism: speed w/the ball in his prime, lateral foot movement, strength, size etc. *and obviously his mind/b-ball IQ. which in turn meant he could impact the game in ways Nash just couldn't. he also usually had to guard the opposing team's best perimeter player night in, night out. and he ended up w/9 all-defensive teams for his career.. arguably just behind GP in terms of elite defensive point guards to have played the game. not to mention he was a triple double threat when it actually still meant something/was much harder to record trip/doubs. if it weren't for Tim Duncan, Kidd would prob have at least 1 MVP to his name.

Nash is was only impactful in the Run N Gun. No one knew who he was until Doc Nelson & later D'antoni because he saw how good he was in RnG. Nash was completely non-existent on defense & that disparity alone is enough to put Kidd on top. Kidd could run halfcourt & RnG styles masterfully. Kidd even expressed his discontent with the halfcourt scheme Terry Porter introduced during the Shaq experiment. Nash also had one of the most underrated but best fitting rosters for that style of play. Although Pop & the Spurs had their number Amare was Tim Duncan's nightmare in the playoffs & Marion was the most versatile player in the league mid 2000s also. Nash was great but not as great as Kidd. Kidd is top 5 all-time PGs & with the emergence of Steph Nash is just a lesser version of him in the most respectful way possible.

As a fan of the Dallas Mavericks who got to watch both of these players night in and night out....there is no question in my mind that Steve Nash was better than Jason Kidd. I would go as far as saying that Nash was better than Kidd when Nash was still in Dallas. Nash almost always had a huge game when playing against the Nets.
That being said...there is no way Nash could have done what Kidd did for the Mavs in their 2011 TItle run.
Jason Kidd is great on a team where he does not have to score. Put him on a low talented team and his intangibles don't amount to much.
Put Kidd on a team loaded with talent (like the 2011 Mavs) and his defensive abilities and tangibles really stand out. Jason Kidd was garbage for the Mavs in the 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2012 NBA playoffs.

Y'ALL ARE CRAZY TO THINK AND SAY THAT NASH IS A BETTER PLAYER, EVEN BETTER POINTGUARD, THAN JASON KIDD! AND I HATE THE FACT ESP. IF PEOPLE START USING THAT BULLSHIIT REASONS OR ARGUMENT THAT "NASH ON D'ANTONI GAME" OR "NASH IS A BETTER SHOOTER , 3PT SHOOTER" and "NASH IS MORE OF AN OFFENSIVE THREAT"!!!
Jason Kidd is so much way ahead of Steve Nash...! He's a leader, a shooter, a passer, a rebounder, steal master, stronger point guard on offense, way better in defense and lastly, HAS A WAY HIGHER IQ THAN STEVE NASH IN BASKETBALL!
Everything that Nash did, JASON KIDD DID + MORE TOO! He wasn't shooting that much COZ HE DIDN'T THINK IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO IN THE SITUATION SO HE WENT FOR BETTER OFFENSIVE PLAYS AND HIGHER SHOT PCT. THAN CHUGGING IT UP FOR A 3 BY HIMSELF. HE MAY HAVE FAKED A 3 THEN GO FOR A 2PT INSTEAD OR PASSED IT TO SOMEBODY ELSE WHO HAD BETTER EFFICIENT SHOTS INSIDE THAN FORCING TO SHOOT AND MISS! AND WHAT NASH DID FOR TEAMS OR FOR HIMSELF, J.KIDD'S BEEN IT AND DONE THAT!
BETTER SHOOTER? D'ANTONI'S OFFENSE? NASH? UR KIDDING ME! JASON KIDD IS IN THE TOP5 FOR 3PTS (and don't use that excuse that it was later on in his career coz he only fucckiing played couple of years in Mavs and 1 in Knicks, but even so, THAT'S PROOF ITSELF THAT HE CAN SHOOT!) AND ALSO, 1 MORE THING IS THAT HE CAN EASILY BULLY ON THE LOW POST VS NASH OR ANY SKINNY LITTLE POINT GUARDS! HE MAY BE GREAT IN D'ANTONI'S OFFENSE AND WILL HURT U, IF NOT KILL U MORE, SINCE HE'S LIKES TO RUN WITH THE BALL, SCORE OR PASS IT SAME WAY, if not EVEN BETTER, THAN STEVE NASH DID!
Paul Pierce and that other guy couldn't have said it better!
JASON KIDD TURNED OVER 4-5TEAMS AND GOT 1 OF THEM TO FINALS or HE TOOK IT FROM WORSE TEAM THEN FLIPPED OVER FRANCHISES MADE IT A WINNING TEAM INSTEAD AND A THREAT TO SO MUCH MORE OTHER TEAMS THAT OVERLOOKED! (He flipped over an average Mavs team as a rookie, won ROY btw, and made them better! He took over the Suns team and made them better! HE LED THE WORST TEAM 1 YEAR B4 HIM, NEW JERSEY NETS, AND CARRIED THEM TO 2 STRAIGHT FINALS, AND MORE YEARS MADE THEM A GREAT FRANCHISE!!! Came back and won a championship to Mavericks! And lastly played a year for the Knicks that made a great turn around as dysfunctional to playoff threat team!)
I DEFINITELY COULD SAY MORE, BUT I HOPE Y'ALL ARE NOT DUMB ENOUGH TO NOT GET IT!
For fucck's sake, HE IS TOP 3 TO TOP 5 in a lots of categories - such as TRIPLE DOUBLES, REBOUNDS as a GUARD, 3PTS, ASSISTS and STEALS! Damn!
JASON KIDD IS A BETTER POINT GUARD, BETTER PLAYER OVERALL and BETTER LEADER than Nash.
    Enough said...! Thank u...!

I’ll go with Kidd but Nash was no slouch. Both made their teams better.

That year before Kidd went to the Nets people forget Kenyon Martin was out for all of that season which was his rookie season. Kidd no doubt was the main reason they went to the finals but Kenyon was great 2.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Kidd was the better overall player. I would say that I would love to see Nash take over Harden's job on the Rockets. I think that since both players are considered liabilities defensively bit I trush Nash's IQ and leadership and shooting more, the Rockets would probably be better.

i rather go with jason kidd on this way. Steve nash was great but he wasnt the type of guy you could heavily lean on in the playoffs when it mattered most. I felt like he deserved that first one, but that 2nd one was pure bias. I think dirk deserved that one that 05-06 season. Even lebron should have had a better chance to win it as well

    • @jackwhite3107

Yung Dynamic I thought Kobe deserved it in 06 he basically shot his team in the playoffs and also shoot them out of games.

The West was way tougher than the East. Kidd would have never sniffed the finals in the Western Conference. His shooting was horrible enough that defense would sagg off and force him to become a scorer.

I concur with your assessment Sir. I would give J. Kidd the nod. I had the honor of playing against J. Kidd, Gary Payton, John Stockton and Kenny Smith. Of the four if I waa starting a team i would definately choose Kidd. Although, I must mention Kenny Smith is the fastest player i ever encountered. His end to end speed was unbelievable!!
