- We had quite an unexpected kidding today, and this is the story.
Hi there! 👋🏻 We live on a 1-acre farm right in the middle of the busy city of Phoenix, Arizona! Our names are Kevin & DaNelle, and we moved here in 2009, when our kids Ethan & Lydia were just 6 & 4 years old 🥰 Over the years we've raised goats for milk, chickens for eggs, built a fish/swim pond, planted fruit & nut trees, and grew a large garden full of veggies. We've also raised a bunch of other animals like pigs, sheep, turkeys, geese, peacocks, and more!
Now that our kids are away at college, we have settled into doing what we love most -- which is raising & breeding goats ethically to improve genetics. But don't worry, we'll forever love our goofy pet goats like Luna the herd queen & Willow the stump lover. We also still love raising chickens for eggs, gardening, tending to the fruit & nut trees, and growing fish in the pond. We use the fresh goat's milk to make cheese, butter, yogurt -- and we use that + everything else we harvest on our little farm to make delicious meals. Having a getaway from the busy world right in our backyard brings so much joy to us each day, and we hope it brings some to you, too. 🥰

How about Rhea for the name of Raven Doeling. The rhea are cousins to Ostrid and its also mean for the mother of gods since she came so early and before the other new babies!
I think you guys can name her Swift (type of grayish/blackish/brownish bird) or Robin (because both start with R) 💗💗💗

When I saw her, I immediately thought of a night sky…then you said a bird name and I thought Starling! It has “star” in it, like how her roaning looks like a bunch of little stars, AND it’s a bird!!!

I think the name Magpie would work really well for her! Ravens and Magpies are from the same family of birds and they're very closely related so Magpie would be a cute name for her! I also love the names Starling and Wren and Kestral. They're all really strong names and she deserves a super strong name for what she's been through! Good job Raven, you did your best!

Sparrow for the preemie. She is a tiny but mighty. I just relocated from the East coast. I loved the sparrows in my yard. They routinely fought off bigger birds for seed and defended their young. I would adopt her in a heartbeat if she becomes available. I have subscribed a while back. Your channel has helped me adapt to Phoenix/Scottsdale.

We had a crazy situation with a doe getting bred by two different bucks during her cycle. (Fence issue). She delivered two ‘normal size’ bucklings and then she delivered the smallest little doeling. She was 1.12 pounds. She came immediately into the house, heating pad, and literally 1 tbs colostrum at a time every few hours. She’s now 4 weeks old, still tiny in comparison but absolutely perfect in every way!

A wren is a small little delicate bird. I like Wren as a name for the little doeling. So sorry the buckling didn't survive. He had beautiful coloring, too. Can't wait to see the rest of the new babies. ❤

I honestly wouldn't get attached until maybe 8-10 weeks old if she survives till then, she can still go downhill quickly as a lot of preemie animals do (even including human infants)

Aww bless her. I hope Raven is ok. Sad about the buck but the dolling is adorable. I think a good name would be Wren, like the Jenny Wren we have in the UK, which is a tiny little bird. She is such a pretty colour too.

In Australia, we have a cute little black and white bird called the Magpie-Lark, but it is commonly known as a “Peewee”. I’d be pretty surprised if you end up picking Peewee as a name, but just an idea based on her colouring 😅
I also like the names Magpie (Maggie for short), Starling, Koel, Phoenix, Wren, Lark, Sparrow, Jay and Dove to fit the bird theme.

I think Miracle would be a super cute name for her, or perhaps Hope, Whisper, or Spirit, but matching the bird theme we could maybe have Starling (stars often represent hope and light, and a Starling is a good bird name for her), Magpie, Dove, Swan, Phoebe (it also is a greek moon goddess as well as a bird species, Merle (blackbird), Paloma (dove), Phoenix (for second chances and rebirth) or Philomela (love, song, nightingale).

We have had this happen as well. A few years ago one of our first fresheners got ahold of some pig feed. She ended up getting really bloated which then put her into early labor. She had her twins 10 days early. We lost the first about 24hrs after delivery, and the other one made it 4 days.
It’s so hard. Farming is so fun and rewarding, but even the best things have their negatives.
Just continue to try your best, and hopefully the sweet little chick will be just as happy as Newt in no time.

Oh my goodness! Raven's baby is so tiny. Sparrow was the first name that came to mind. But with the salt and pepper, black and white sort of markings, Magpie (or Maggie for short) would be cute too. Wren's are also small, delicate but pretty birds. Look up the Blue Fairy Wren for example. They're one of my favourites.

We have two goats that were born about two weeks early and their mom died. This was at the farm where my son used to work. The vet and the lady who owns the farm had to swing them to inflate their lungs. They were also B1 deficient, which we realized too late was what was wrong with their mother. But those two are living at my farm now, and just turned 4 back in January.😊🐐💖
May I suggest the little doelings name be Hestia the name means a Greek goddess of fire, she has a Smokey look so I feel it would fit her! Also it can show how strong she is for making it out alive! Rest In Peace little buckling ❤️

Once upon a time in the city of Phoenix, Arizona, There in a small farm lived The queen of a big herd of goats, Queen luna. She lived in the retirement home next to the baby goat pen and frankly all the babies were quite loud. Honey, which was tilly's daughter, ran up to the fence. Hey Queen Luna wut up today? Luna replied, Oh just the usual: Being brave, fighting off coyotes, keeping Casper for eating everything. Casper the farm dog in training, looked up from where he was chewing a stick, did someone say my name? Luna laughed and laid her wise old head on the ground as Tilly gathered up honey and took her to their stall for her nap. The End

Maybe Maggie? Short for Magpie (which apparently is a bird that's known for good luck and fortune), considering she not only survived her own birth and seems to be doing quite well for a premature kid, Maggie could be a cute name for her.
I'm glad Raven is doing okay too she must of been so shaken after that. Could there have been a chance she was bread earlier than you first thought? Like a week or so before?
I thought that was possible too, but then she talked about how it was underdeveloped. Very small and has no teeth.
