I love the way the 2 lambs (or sheep, couldn't tell their age) at 0:10 are laying down looking so relaxed. I love lambs and sheep, they are the most peaceful innocent animals
Ahhh triplets. That explains the early lambing. He is so handsome with anabells colouring! Unfortunate that he was rejected but a cool experience for little buddy to have a lamb to bottle feed
Awwwww! Poor baby! Glad you pay so much attention to your animals. Hopefully you can ease him back into her brood and she will accept him again. That's a lot of work ahead of you for a while! Hope he does well. He's such a cutie!!!
As long as you are always treating them very well, which is what I'll say to anyone who owns and raises them. Always be caring and kind to lambs and sheep. They are the most innocent, peaceful, happy, playful, and loving animals
Poor little ramekin. I hope he does well on the bottle. Little Buddy is becoming quite the shepherd. You are such a great shepherd to figure it out in time.
1:11-1:17, I love how it looks like the sheep has a smile on its face. But because it looked relaxed in its other mannerisms, I'll go with that that sheep was really smiling happy and that how it felt inside really matched its face
Good luck with him. When my doe was rejecting one of her kids I held her down so he could nurse. After a week or so she stopped rejecting him and he’s done great. Hope whatever you do works out.

Ok, what is up with Justin’s lambs?! They are SO skittish! That’s nuts! I kept thinking, I don’t remember Dan’s lambs being like this. Even the first time. And then it occurred to me...........TESS!!!!! She’s the X factor. Maybe her stock is just pretty awesome .....and calm.... and doesn’t try to ram itself into a wall when approached by a two year old. 🤔 I also smiled a bit when Rebecca talked about ordering the ‘machine’. Love this homesteading community! PS I think I spotted some white specks in their manure. Have you seen the vlog yet? Not huge worms, but maybe something. Or maybe it’s too early. Yours seemed to take a while to show up that first time? Hope you’re all well!
My lambs from 2016 were a bit skittish too. It just takes time working with them to calm. But there are certainly varying levels of skittishness and Tess' stock that are less-socialized are definitely on the low end of the scale. I watched Justin's first video with the lambs from a couple days ago but I haven't seen any others yet. I'll check them out.
Anna is saying,"I only have enough milk for 2". Try separating those 4 and give Anna more pellets than she can eat to increase milk production.May have to keep lil buck away for a few hours till the production starts jammin.
Had a very sismilar experience with one of my goats this year. One delivered early so I had not put her in a private pen yet. She had one and cleaned it...but then the other goats must have run her out to a different area of the barn where she had the second baby. She ended up rejecting baby 1 even though she is usually a great mom. But our baby won't take a bottle for anything. We have to just make mom stand for feedings. Then we bring baby in by us so mom won't hurt her. Good luck to you!
We have ended our first lambing season. The first lambs born were twins. The Ewe rejected one of them. Sounds like the same way your ewe treated the little guy. We gave her colostrum for 2 days then switched to milk replacer. She is quite a bit smaller than the others. I wonder if this is typical with bottle lambs.
That was so cute watching Little Buddy feeding the lamb. Great video. You care so much about your animals, I'm sure the little lamb will be fine under your care. Hugs❤️
At the end, was the ewe with the grey face starting labor? Maybe her belly was just uncomfortable, but she was doing the lip curl. Lambing season is fun and challenging :). We've only had one ewe with triplets and she did pretty well. We noticed when we were banding the ram lamb that he was significantly smaller and started supplementing. We then noticed that he regularly got booted from the teat by the other two. We enjoyed having a bottle lamb for the grandsons and for the nursery school class that I was teaching, even if it wasn't our first choice. Some make the precaution that rams can get too aggressively friendly as they age (butting people) but probably your little guy won't get to that stage. Another time we had a ewe with a terrible labor and a long gap between lambs. She ended up rejecting the first one. We held her in place for about a week so the lamb could nurse (and he did get the colostrum) but eventually it was too much of a hassle to wrestle the ewe. This year we are tagging our lambs and keeping better records, so that if we need to we will know who to cull :(. All that to say that I think your guess that your ewe was stressed is probably spot on. I'm not suggesting that she should be culled!
I really hope there is nothing wrong with that cute brown ram. Sometimes mother's reject offspring because it is sick or something is wrong. He is too cute and precious for that! Hope he comes through swimmingly. He looked so sad and forlorn so I'm glad he is getting the nurturing he needs now and is responding to it. He's in good hands. 😊
I was thinking about this scenario. It might be comforting to say that in my limited experience, though the ewe rejects the lamb, the other lambs didn't so they snuggled together pretty often and played together. The rejected lambs did learn how to be part of a herd, and that's something you really can't teach if they are isolated from the herd. It was sort of fun to come into the pasture and have one come running, even after weaning :)
Omg I was thinking about that when I saw the video. I noticed Veronica was still big and hoping that wasn’t the case. I had two 2yr old ewes lamb the same night as well... both had singles. One ewe had experience with her lamb last year and the other was a first time mom and the experienced ewe took the other ewes lamb and stole her so she is now raising both lambs as her own....
Had a similar issue just yesterday. Went and picked up my daughter and arrived home to a new born.. thinking it was just the one. I left them alone to bond before checking on them. Come to find out another one walked into a 2 x 3 hole about a foot down and couldn’t get out so the mom rejected her. In just that little time. Let the all night feeding begin!
Bottle feeding currently and I think Annabel stole him off the mother. I have a stealer ewe that has never had one that tries to steal one every time a ewe has one. It’s a job for sure but they rewrote it
Omg I got these 2 lambs and one was a good strong ewe and the other was a tiny little ram they were only 1 day in differents but the little ram was half the size of the ewe sadly he was a very week little guy he had bad legs we fed him he even drank better than the big lamb but one morning I got down to them he was lying on his side not getting up we warmed him up he had mini seizures so we got the vet but sadly the little guy didn’t make it I was heartbroken RIP little Rocky
I thought it odd that Annabelle would have 2 white lambs and Veronica have a brown one, but genetics can be odd... lol Possibly while Annabelle was stressing over the "escapee" Veronica could have been cleaning off the brown one, so Annabelle just didn't get bonded. I am no sheep expert, but I know horses and cattle will have milk in their udders before they actually give birth, so it might be possible Veronica has some milk in her that the baby lamb got a bit of a drink... but she needs her milk for when her own are born. You could put the lamb in a corner of Little Buddy's room at night so it keeps warm and handy for feedings :D
Mr. Dan, what’s your plan with with? Do you wish to have a whole flock of sheeps. Or are you doing this for learning purposes? I would love to know if your plans are to go big with sheeps or big on homesteading and everything. Thank you.
Hi I know this videos from a while back and he’ll be a grown ram now 🥺 but I just collected two kayde lambs and I’m not sure how much they should be drinking they have both drank different amounts just wondering how much I should be giving them??
That looks like a reasonable size of farm to own. I would love to have votes in sheep and chickens just a few of each. Why Are'nt The Sheep being shorn. They look a little wooly. Maybe when the weather warms up
hey, do you have any techniques for getting a lamb to drink? ours wont eat grain and has only gained 4 pounds in 4 weeks, she is suffolk/hamp, we live in AK and she gets cold. we have a wool coat on her though... Any suggestions?
Hey Dan, I really thought that Annabelle had triplets. But hesitated to comment. Please take care of that adorable little guy( i'm 100% positive you would).. May be he can be inside home with willow? time for her to bond with a homestead animal slowly? Just a thought... Its sad.. That guy was so cute.
How did this turn out for the ram? Did you eat him before he got big enough to be dangerous? I’ve got a proven mama who has some udder issues now and I’ve got to feed her twins. She has accepted them, but they just can’t get milk out of her. I’m leary about bottle feeding them ram lamb without banding him. But we plan to eat him. Suggestions?
If you don’t have raw goats milk - I have read cow milk with heavy cream and an egg is a good replacer, what are your thoughts?? A neighbor is giving us a rejected lamb - a triplet. I’ve bottle fed goats but not a lamb.
Thank You for this Informative video!Quick Question: Do you recommend allowing the newborn to drink as much as they want? Do they know to stop when they are full? I’m scared of over feeding the day old that I have. He was rejected by his mother almost instantly and he was the smaller of the twins.
So Dan,how much do you feed the baby? I was wondering if he is indeed a triplet. Sounds like Miss Annabelle has a load on her. Maybe you could take him to the house with you and Little B. I'm sure you have talked to Tess and she has guided you in the right direction. Best of luck to you! I also wanted to ask about Miss Willow. I hope she is becoming acclimated to her new home.
Willow is doing great! As for how much milk, I fill up a baby bottle and feed it every 2 hours. It's about 4 oz or so. Obviously, the amount consumed will increase each day
How sad to see a baby get rejected but it's life sometimes,at least now you can do what, you can for the little guy.Have you think that maybe try milking the mother, ewe and bottle feed the baby that way?
Some people do that but it would be an unending cycle of milking (which I'm not set up for so it takes me a lot longer) and feeding. Goat milk is easier for me
Probly just as well. Being 3 on one mom likly would have one smaller bullied. Wish we were closer would love to have him to raise for meat. My wife and son would love a bottle baby. Been looking for 2 but nothing around here. Only off the mother or only 1......would rather 2 at a time
Arghh! Bottle babies suck. (Hey, one bad pun deserves another). Dude, don't beat yourself up over the lamb "falling out of the enclosure". 90% of the time, a goat or a sheep that has triplets will reject 1 to enhance the chances of the other 2 anyway. I mean, Momma knows she only have 2 teats, right? That said, good for you to recognize the problem and step in. Not saying I always did it right, but I was raising sheep and goats before you were born. Also, at the risk of getting flamed here, I have to prioritize my time/efforts. So I no longer invest the time or energy to bottle feed here. Yesss....rejected babies die. But I'll leave to the readers' imaginations how the resource is "recycled". Harsh?.....Nah....Just life. As a post script, bottle fed babies will never become a viable part of the herd. Expensive meat if, IF you can bring yourself to "process it". JMHO.
I won't flame you for it. I understand. If I were running a strict breeding program and/or a commercial business, I probably wouldn't be able to intervene. I do intervene though since this is a small homestead and all about experiences for our family.

You can basically give lambs like cow or goats milk if your in a bit of a bad spot they’ll still drink it
I thought it odd that Annabelle would have 2 white lambs and Veronica have a brown one, but genetics can be odd... lol

hey, do you have any techniques for getting a lamb to drink? ours wont eat grain and has only gained 4 pounds in 4 weeks, she is suffolk/hamp, we live in AK and she gets cold. we have a wool coat on her though... Any suggestions?
try starting with some molasses. Get the blood sugar up and that might help with encouraging eating
@@TheGrassfedHomestead ok thanks, she just started eating grain yesterday, and is taking a bottle good, thanks to patience.
☹ bummer poor baby lamb😢
🌻Happy Wednesday🌻
Suggestions?
yeah, I think I harvested him around 7 months
If you don’t have raw goats milk - I have read cow milk with heavy cream and an egg is a good replacer, what are your thoughts??
A neighbor is giving us a rejected lamb - a triplet.
I’ve bottle fed goats but not a lamb.
I don't have any experience with that
@@TheGrassfedHomestead thank you for your reply he didn’t make it.
Thank You for this Informative video!Quick Question: Do you recommend allowing the newborn to drink as much as they want? Do they know to stop when they are full? I’m scared of over feeding the day old that I have. He was rejected by his mother almost instantly and he was the smaller of the twins.
They stop when they are full

Thank You so much, that is reassuring

So Dan,how much do you feed the baby? I was wondering if he is indeed a triplet. Sounds like Miss Annabelle has a load on her. Maybe you could take him to the house with you and Little B. I'm sure you have talked to Tess and she has guided you in the right direction. Best of luck to you! I also wanted to ask about Miss Willow. I hope she is becoming acclimated to her new home.
Willow is doing great! As for how much milk, I fill up a baby bottle and feed it every 2 hours. It's about 4 oz or so. Obviously, the amount consumed will increase each day
Maybe next time a ewe lambs you steal a bit of colostrum for him
this exact same thing happened at my house
edit:the exact same thing
Only off the mother or only 1......would rather 2 at a time
😍😍😍😍😍
Hi :)
man this complicated : S
