Love the view--I feel like the parrot on the pirate's shoulder--such a beautiful, interesting place. The ancient trees, the artifacts, the climb--thank you, thank you for going where we can't and being such good company.
Gly, I hope you file a trip report before leaving home that gives coordinates of where you'll be going and expected time of return. It might also help to have a balloon to send up if there is an emergency breakdown. Those areas are extremely remote.
I can`t imagine how hard it was to simply get to work, let alone do the work in the mine once you got there. You know that times must have been hard for people to do this kind of thing. These were the kind of people that built this great country.
The Trip begins. On that rock, nice thumbnail. Yep, you got to protect your ankles, gave myself a wicked sprain on some train tracks years back. Never heard of wigwam syrup, before my time. Imagine hauling things up the hill to this site, boards, nails, etc, sure that the person owned a burrow or mule maybe he used that tram. Gly, it will be tough going trying to get back to Old Bob, take you're time. It may be a cabin, right now it is a lean-to. I'll have a cup of coffee. Very very remote place to get to,
26:33 The riveted ore shoot, dates to about 1910's. Electric welding was new, but not widely used. Most small towns in that area, may not have had electric lighting yet. Nice job Gly, be safe.
Gly, it just amazes me the lengths that you go to get to some of these mines. SUPER cool artifacts! I’m happy that you leave the artifacts where you find them. What makes me think is how in the world are you going to get out of there!!! Happy Trails!
Gly ,,,, your videos are like finding a rare gem . They move me in ways that one remembers things easily because you have a way with the terminology . Gly ,,,, you've been through lots of hardship. And your a walking miracle because you beat cancer, I applaud you for that. In the video I hear a little boy laughing with excitement most people would laugh. But I know it's called living a dream and full of life , there is no shame in that. Only happiness, which I wish most in your life now... . Your very much welcome
What a great treat for Saturday morning. You by far my favority mine explorer!! I just returned from Vanderbuilt Mine exploring trip. I think there is nothing like following these old trails that lead to mines. Like you said just getting there is half the adventure.
Wow these places may be abandoned but they definitely are not forgotten, thanks to you Gly! That would be an awesome job driving a cool jeep through the wilderness and finding these crazy places that played such an important part of our country. Thanks for documenting these places!
Those junipers, as well as some of the mountain cypress trees we get over here in the California high sierras can be some of the oldest trees in the world. Never mind a hundred years, occasionally the oldest ones can be upwards of a thousand years old. Pretty mind melting, in my humble opinion. Looooong before Europeans ever made it to the west side of the continent. So awesome....
i so appreciate you showing us the journey, the views and finds along the way, as well as the difficulties. it makes for a wonderful polished video. great job!
Absolutely love your channel, love the way you explain what the surrounding area is like, the trees etc, as well as the geology of the mines, have learnt so much from you, it's truly an adventure. Thank you so much, keep safe x
Hello Gly A amazing exploring . Very dangerous . A great thankyou for your effords to bring this Video to us The miners did a grest job to build all this stuff in the Mountain and bring all the Equipment up to this remote area. I am looking forward what to come Have a good weekend and a nice New week Take care yours Frank Galetzka
Cool walk (hike) in the woods to get to this mine. Neat little storage shed/cabin with the tin cans, did you see the wrench hanging on the pin on the right door jamb post (34:51)? Now you’ll have to hike back there again to show us what it was . Lol😁. Stay safe !
What modern wonders we have now a days........a follow along drone! I felt like I was floating along as you did all the walking and then 13:41, you found it!! I'd still be walking circles in the woods.....you're good. And all the while you're exploring you're carrying EVERYTHING! aLL so that you can show these sights to us!!!! At the 2nd edge at 28:54, I was chewing my fingernails!!! I must have done this backwards. I thought this was Part 2!! (I'll go back). Pretty exciting though, thanks to you.
Great video(s) Gly. Beautiful country out there. Thanks for taking us along and I love it as you describe what you are seeing and the different rock and structures these miners were working with back in the day. Stay safe Gly. BTW...I did notice the different sayings on the bucket lid every video...nice touch. Haha. Love it.
I've always been afraid of heights and even now at 82 I got queasy just watching you do all that scary climbing. Love your mine work as well. The only large caves I have been in were the Janolan Caves in NSW Australia but every step was well lit! Thank you for your great videos.
Wigwam Syrup, made by the company that made Log Cabin. Coincidentally, I bought a Wigwam syrup cafe/diner individual serving cup at an antique store last week. As always, thanks for the tremendous effort you put into your productions!
Bigger balls than me doing slopes like that on your own, especially carrying all that kit, that said, in the adventure coming up today, did some stuff alone I wouldn't have done before. Enjoyed that, reminded me of your early videos :)
Gly you really had me nervous at the end when you were standing on the edge of the cliff with your hand on the cabin, I kept thinking - thats allot of weight on that roof, hope it doesn't give way and blow Gly off the mountain... 🙀 Thanks for showing me the difference between the opinion and the Juniper, I've had my hands on both, and I forgot which was which, there were a lot of fires the last time I was out West, it was a smell I really enjoyed it at the same time realized there weren't a lot to be burned anymore. Takes a long time to grow Pinyan. Thank you for your efforts.👍
0:13 Ever since I watched the Walking Dead since it's release, everytime when I hear this type of music I am looking around in the cool drone shots if there are zombies walking around :P
Thanks for going the extra miles to bring it full circle. Theirs one thing I seen and as you know loose shell rocks are horrible to climb up.! Have you ever considered carrying a small rope , even paracord 550# it would be light ,but feasible. I have used it in my climbing to get back up these rocks. Oh another thing don’t worry about the huffing and puffing it’s part of climbing.
“Gly”: I carried some in the past but it was somewhat of a burden carrying it with the rest of my gear. I just figured that if I find myself in a hiking situation where I’d need rope then I’d just try to find another route.
I don't mind your huffing and puffing. I just watched episode ... 61 I want to say. Scariest thing ever. I'm now subscribed. You're interesting. Def sound Canadian.
AS you came out of the cabin it was neat to see some dynamite box parts used to reinforce it. Also what was either a massive cotter pin, or maybe just a rusted eye-bolt hanging on a nail.
I see you have now added a gold tooth cam! Quite a hike. You were giving me vertigo a time or two. Look at the small mound to your right at 5:08 - tailings from a small prospect? Look at the stone ring on the ground right in front of you at 5:37 - old campfire ring?
“Gly”: I used to have a gold crown that was made out of the gold from my gold mine. Unfortunately, it fell out and now I use it for a metal detector target. Lol
I just discovered part 1 an hour ago, after having watched part two. I'm glad I saw part 2 first, and you replied to my comment. I now know you made it back UP that climb you just came down. Good workout, Hey?!
You are a wonderful man! As a disabled senior your adventure series means a lot with me. I wish I could support you but my finances goes for medical at 76 yrs. Gly, it is obvious you spent considerable time and money over the winter working on taking your productions to the next level and it really shows. You had some of the best mine exploration videos already and now you have taken it to a whole new level. The new cameras, camera angles, camera following have added much. Thank you for making the whole journey so much more interesting and all the thought you put into your camera work and superb editing. You have set the bar for mine exploration, others really need to take note as their content is getting boring just tromping through a mine shaft. New hood on Old Bob looks great and it is very quiet now that the rattling tea cup noise is fixed. ;O)
“Gly”: And I’m taking it even further! Thanks to contributing subscribers the channel now has new editing plugins that’ll allow me to accurately adjust color without having to spend laborious hours manually adjusting clips. You’ll see it being used in next week’s intro sequence. By the way… that noise was coming from my jack on the hood. One zip tie and problem fixed. 👍
OK, I think I was holding my breath when you were sliding down to the lower platform. Now that I've caught my breath, what an awesome view! How did they get that stuff up there? They hoofed it! What a cliffhanger!
That music on the drive in to the site. We used to call it, "manure spreading music" as the 10th Generation Dairyman often used it during drone shots of spreading.....Then My Self Reliance started using it during artsy shots of log cabin building, we've heard it on How Farms Work during videos of hay mowing....and most recently Jumping off the Cliff while train hopping.
Mr Gly I choose both! What a hike and what a view! OMG breathtaking...But Oh Chute! Those damn brain farts..The rivet spacing on the ore chute was tight, obviously for rigidity, common in aircraft strength, something you don't see everyday. Someone had to hike that there, ore did they use the winch?
Love the earwax cam 😎 Fabulous adventure as always. Would love to venture out there with my Sony FX9 cinematic filming equipment and DJI inspire pro drone. Probably to heavy on my own. I'd need to hire a decent off roader too. In South Africa (Cape Town) I had a good crew and vehicles to explore. That 11hr flight was a bit much though.
Gly, thanks very much, I have had to hang my line exploration boots up some years ago (UK mines!) due to disability, and I cannot do it anymore. I really enjoy your videos as I feel like I am ‘actually’ there with you exploring. It’s great. So keep it up :)
