I've had this rack for about 2 years now and the only thing I cook on the top rack is chicken and sausage. The heat is the actual temperature that your gauges read because it right top and near the exhaust. It gets real hot on that top rack great for crispy skin on your chicken.
I got two sets from the gentlemen that originally fabricated these and I asked him to include handles on the racks. I believe and hope he sold the Idea to BBQ smoker mods.
@@BackyardSmoke614 I agree it made a big difference. I actually sold one of my Highland Smokers because of the additional racks. It was quite profitable! :>)
I just installed ours. Had to grind the stands so the lower rack would lay flat. After that it works pretty good. Seasoned it in and then made some chicken wings. Your video was good.
Thanks, After the video another owner tip me off that if I flipped the bottom grate i would gain an extra .5 of an in. So i did that and the bottom grate also fit flush. Cant wait to cook on it.
looking to buy the mods before I buy my Highland, just so its not such a big hit on pocket book......this is great, will definitely be getting this mod.....great video, thanks homie!!
Well, you're a woman, so you probably wouldn't. 😂😂 I just said that to get a rise out of you. Sorry, just having fun, you know how we do as men and women. Lol don't let this ruin your day ok.
New sub here 👍 I know this is late but very timely on my part, wife is getting me one of these for Christmas and for the budget this smoker fits the bill perfectly. Glad to find out about this mod cause that is one of my concerns, thanks and I’ll be riding along with you on this smoking journey 😎
It did that was a error on my part. But even better another subscriber suggested I flip it and gain even more clearance on the bottom. 💥 I know run it flipped and it's still flush.
@@BackyardSmoke614 That looks similar to the Camp Chef jerky rack system I have for my Camp Chef 24 Deluxe 24 pellet grill. Yours is a whole lot sturdier and more durable. Mines pretty cheap and flimsy. Unfortunately, living in an apartment, I can get away I can get away with a pellet grill/smoker but not one like yours. Grill on.
Thanks man you will love it. Tip I learned after posting is if you flip the bottom grate you will gain just a little over half in of head room. Also for me the fit waa better. It's great mod I love it when I do parties.
looks like that bottom shelf could benefit from a little bit of hammer violence on the left side, but still seems like a good mod. love to hear the kids in the background
Thanks man yeah the rubber mallet had to nudge it it. Funny a gentleman from a FB group let me know if I flipped the bottom grate I would get a bit more head room, so that the plan today.
Excellent video, I liked and subscribed. I probably will get this mod, I like the diamond grid much more than the rack system. I especially like the way you chapterized your video. I have wanted for some time to do a vid, but there are just so many out there, why bother. I'm grateful your video came up in suggested vids, I'm going to watch your other ones. Thanks
Your bottom grate isn't level. High on the lower left side. I highly recommend the Baffle heat tuning plate and the fire basket. It will change your cook tremendously!!
Who knew? Looks awesome and thanks for sharing this. I have a question....is the fire basket worth getting.? What difference is there between it and not having it? Thanks again!!
yeah it truly make cooking on this pit much easier and more fun. Yes the basket is worth it. It help hold he coals closer together, and with the a smaller fall through gap i dont lose big chucks to the ashes sooner. basically I only have to toss on 1 split per 50min of cook.
Hey Juilian, I have heard it may and I have heard it will not, Since I don't use the baffle I cannot attest to this. but the people at bbqsmokermods.com are very responsive via email. I would reach out to them to get the best answer.
User error, I needed to align it better. However I learned if you flip the bottom rack you can gain 1in of space with it awesome for larger pork butts or briskets
It's does had to re align it. Also a member of the Oklahoma Joe Facebook group suggested fliping it and you gain 1 in. By doing that I get a flush fit with out having to muscle it in.

I need to try that. I may spatchock a bird this weekend, thanks for the tip.
throw some corn up there
@@donoho93 yeah i did that last weekend
I don't get why Oklahoma Joe just doesn't make the smoker with two racks like Char-Griller but this is a great mod.
I agree. Having two racks is a game changer for this pit
That looks like a great upgrade. No tools necessary for instillation.
Nope that's the best Simple and easy
I have bought their tuning plate, charcoal basket and sealing/latch kit. Love all of it! This and the heavy duty firebox might be my next investment🤔
Nice I was just looking at the fire box as well
@@BackyardSmoke614 it definitely looks bigger and heavier. I just wonder for $350, that the temp management/burning efficiency is that improved🤔
Thank you for the great video! I just got this for my Oklahoma Joes Lonhgorn Offset! Cant wait, this sealed my purchase!
You will love it, It provides so much extra space.
I got two sets from the gentlemen that originally fabricated these and I asked him to include handles on the racks. I believe and hope he sold the Idea to BBQ smoker mods.
Man that's what I'm lacking is the handles. I may weld some on myself. So far not an issue love the rack to death

What kind of box do you have inside the wood chamber? I like that insert
A steel firebox I found it on Amazon work well I love it
Great video bro! Thanks for putting a link in the description I may have to buy myself with Joe with this expansion kit.
Yeah this kit really makes it better
Nice video. I have the same, like many folks, but due to the baffle that's installed I had to grind down the ends of the holders to make it fit.

I was wondering where did you get the barbecue mods two tier grate for the Oklahoma joe hollander?

Would this still fit if you have the smoke stack lowering kit installed?
I'm not sure I don't have the smoke stack. I'm sure you could email the company and they would know.
Will this fit an old country pecos offset smoker? Does anyone know? They seem to have the same dimensions.
Not sure. Best to check with the manufacturer link in description
