I caught 5 different species of fish on 5 consecutive casts just down from there at the train bridge. Big Crappie, largemouth, smallmouth, walley and a small bluegill. Catch Musky, Gar, Northern Pike, Tons of good sized channel cats and nice Flatheads and of course strippers. I love fishing the Iowa
I grew up fishing that spot. 30 plus years. Caught huge flathead, pike, smallmouth. But it was mainly my walleye spot. Got sick of losing my expensive lures so I switched to a bobber with live bait.
I've lived in Iowa city my whole life. We are surrounded by farmland and livestock. You can't possibly imagine the amount of chemical and fecal runoff in that water. It could be one of the most contaminated waterways in the country. Cook those well done 😬
Yall should try a top water if there is hitting that shallow. Ive gotten on some crazy schools of white bass with top water an nits the best way to catch them if they're willing to hit it
@BillyYangFishing lol been going out every week and been doing good..hit the lake that u went to last year for that night crappie bite. U should know where!
Awesome catches! Hope you dont break your NRX, wipers and the strippers you are after are bit big for your rod! Also how can you buy a $650+ rod and just lay it on rocks without a care?? Take a walmart rod instead for that kind of treatment. Hold your rod up while taking out the hook?
Appreciate it! Never had an NRX break on me before so I’m not worried if it can handle it or not. Also I prefer to use rods I’m comfortable with, rather than buying cheap Walmart rods that will eventually break and never use.
@@zajdabneeg mine have lifetime warranty so I’m not worried about it breaking, if it does I’ll get a new ones for free replacement. The amount you spend on cheap broken rods add up to a nice rod anyways

Iowa fucking sucks lmao the river is dried up and there’s barely any cats in the dmi river the only good fishing is in private ponds

So do white bass bite in spillways year round?
They should, spillways usually hold baitfish which would make whitebass stay nearby.
Bro I want to hit this spot so bad!!
Im from Texas, traveling for work but I am staying 2 hours away!!
Got a limit of 5 hybrids here in Fort Worth, Texas this morning. They have to be 18 inches to keep. What is the limit there in Iowa?

@@PNyujsY its preference, you can either horse the fish in with a heavier rod or enjoy fighting the fish with a lighter rod that can handle them!
These hybrid bass are all stocked fish. I use to catch hundreds of those baby hybrid up the river some more

Might as well drop a pin. Already overfished and harvested. For shame Jr.
If y'all learn to catch n release n just keep a few, y'all wouldn't have to travel so far to fish for whites...😂😂😂
traveling is the fun part🙂
Water is too nasty!
Looks pretty dark.
Can't spect clear water for a small river
