  • This little bird was very calm, carrying on with it's day, unbothered by my presence. If you've ever heard that hoarse "Phoebe, Phoebe" birdcall, here's your bird. it's a beautiful bird and I got lots of detailed footage, from a couple of angles, preening, and at one point flipping his tail & wing weathers out. You can see the bugs when he's caught them near the end when he goes to the ground and then flies back up and perches in some bare branches. It's easier to see the bug the 2nd time because he eats the first one quicker. Also at one point near the end, a huge Great White Egret flies over us- a nice photobomb which I was able to capture.
It's funny, prior to last year, I never noticed gigantic Great White Egrets flying overhead, but they fly over the area I live in so frequently, and are so large, I'm not sure how I missed that spectacle all of these years. An Eastern Phoebe is also a bird I wasn't familiar with until last year. These birds tend to hang around locations with water. It is amazing how many species are in my area. It was the Merlin app which identifies birds by sound which helped me to learn how diverse the species are. So many species of bird are unseen as they hide up in trees, unless you get outside more in nature and take time to notice details.
