OCTOPUS ATTACKS AND EATS SEAGULL, SOUTHERN SPAIN.

- Filmed at a harbour in Southern Spain. The octopus was being attacked by the seagull until the octopus got the better of the seagull. All octopus carry a venom in their razor sharp beak to paralyse their prey. So I would not like to be bitten by one! How do you think you might react to coming accross an unusual event like this? They'll try to eat almost anything they see, whether that is trying to steal food from another animal, including humans or they'll try to kill any animal they think they can overtake and they're even cannibals eating their flock's baby chicks.

For anyone who didn't watch this until the end, the octopus never actually eats the seagull. He just seems to drown it......which is even more frightening.
You should watch the extended video. The octopus brings the seagull to his kitchen, chop it off and cooks it in a herbs-filled cauldron. Puts it on a table, grabs his dinnerware and enjoys a feast off of it. Yup, true story.
The Octopus was already eating it with it's beak. Painful way to go when you realize how slow it is.

Saw a video here awhile back in which an adult seagull casually swallowed several ducklings as the mom duck freaked out and tried to chase her off. I remember feeling bad for those ducklings, but hey, Nature. With that said...this is a great video, thanks to the mild sarcastic 'concern' expressed by the duck.

This could be an elderly, probably injured, gull caught by rogue octopus. This event is also educating every gull within line of sight to avoid landing in this water. You can tell the calls of these gulls are warning "yeows" probably by the flock or colony leader.
It could happen to a young Gull too, if an Octopus snares you it's pretty much over.

Amazing how fast the octopus venom weakens the seagull, stops it from calling and flapping its wings. It was dead before it was drowned. Birds are very lucky the octopus doesn't normally target them! But if you attack first seagull, all bets are off...

There are spider species who have venom harmless to humans (cause a reaction like a bee sting) that can easily paralyze or kill an animal the size of a gull. Now imagine a spider the size of that octopus! The venom yield of that octopus is more than enough to paralyze that gull's lungs and cause it to drown. Octopus venom is quite lethal to birds and would kill a lot more humans if we were as small as they are.

It might have been a drake (male duck), they are quite territorial, possibly it was checking to see if the seagull was going to survive. We raised ducks a long time ago, the drakes made a lot of bobbing and tail wagging and hissing noises at the females if it was mating season, otherwise there would be a lot of raised head feathers and tail wagging and hissing noises to sort out the pecking order in the ranks of the drakes. They even went to extremes such as one drake climbing onto and beating down another drake to assert their dominance! Drakes can be quite aggressive, even towards other species.

@Peg Leg No worries, unless you're night-swimming off the coast of southern CA & Mexico. Local fishermen say they don't go into the water at night because the squid are attracted to stray netted fish & boat lights. Others say these attacks are a total nonsense myth. Since these creatures are so big, I just wouldn't gamble the risk!

This made me look up what tail wagging in ducks meant, and apparently, it means the duck is excited or happy. So this duck basically did just swim in to say fuck you to the seagull.

I'm a diver , and have interacted with the Pacific coast octopus twice. They are an extremely cool and very intelligent animal. I hunt just about everything in the water , but I will not ever kill an octopus. I love them , and freakin' hate seagull's......so this video?? Was pretty damn cool to see!
