This was SICK! This is one of my favorite songs from Super Metroid. It's a bit weird but when you're in that area it makes perfect sense. Confusing rooms, quicksand that traps you, vines hanging everywhere, the background looks like it extends for miles, there's water rising and falling, paths that seem to loop you in circles, holes in the floors. You're struggling just to make it through the area and not get lost or killed. The music just embodies it perfectly.
Creepy-and a hard one to adapt for piano given how textural the original music!! Love your crack at this one, and would be interested to hear you take on the other Maridia track. Both of them are among the tracks composed by Minako Hamano, who composed about half the Super Metroid soundtrack (including the title and ending themes, all the boss music, and the Wrecked Ship theme) despite not being nearly as famous as her counterpart Kenji Yamamoto, who composed the other half. For those who loved Super Metroid back in the day, it is still alive and well in the speedrunning community! There are a bunch of Metroid speedrunners on TH-cam and Twitch running different speedrun categories, playing ROM hacks that make all new games out of the Super Metroid engine, and running challenge hacks like map randomizers-any of which might take you on a trip down memory lane. When you're done watching Kara's latest videos, naturally! 😉
Dear Kara, I recently found your channel through the Castlevania "Wood Carving Partita" video and immediately subscribed! I've been listening to all your beautiful renditions at work and at home non-stop since then! You combine two passions of mine (old school video games and piano) in such a wonderful way! I still have a lot of your videos to go through and I'm loving each and every of them! You also inspired me to start studying piano, something that I've been wanting to do for such a long time but have been postponing endlessly (up to now). Thank you so much for sharing your talent with the world! Many greeting from Brazil. Sincerely, Marcelo
Thank you Marcelo! Keep an eye out on my main account because I'm posting something in October that you're going to LOVE (hint has to do with Castlevania!)
haha in my mind it was kinda obscure because I didn't know there was such a cult following.XD I did just recently beat the game for the first time, live on twitch and I loved it! I also played Metroid Prime first time recently and enjoyed that one too :D
In 2009 as a 15 year old when I first got to this area I felt true despair/curiosity. When I came across the fake metroids, the mochtroids, my mind was blown. I knew something was amiss. I wasn't sure if they were fake ore real. It truly tripped out my adolescent mind. This track intensified that feeling.
This one must've been super tricky due to its (purposely) wacky tempo changes, broken rhythms, etc. WELL DONE! 💪😎✌️ It's also cool to see you "getting into it", lol. Funky beats, creepy notes, mysterious music, yet underlying beauty and wondrous whimsy.

The sound of being lost
Yes!
Ayyy fr though
"Where do I go!?"
Maridia sounds so good an ominous on piano! Really appreciate you covering Metroid!
I remember being stuck here for hours as a kid
Boy did I hate the sand area. xD

Thank you for doing the rare stuff now.
I love playing all these non-piano classics!
Makes me feel like I'm being watched or something is right on my tail from within the shadows 👀🫣 Love this!
Super Metroid was incredible, this definitely takes me back🙂♥️

haha naturally! XD thanks Josh! I probably have played the other maridia track, might be on TikTok or something, I'd have to dig it up XD
Strong staccato, and emotional legato. You nailed the small nuances in the melody. 😎
Ese sonido me hace recordar a mis noches de niño jugando esta maravilla 🥲 Gracias Kara 🙏🏽
Love it. Desolate and foreboding.
You captured this unsettling feeling so well! I love it!
You bring out the scary eeriness of Maridia :D
Yessss! Absolutely love this video! The facial expressions mimic my experience in game. Touche young lady, touche 👍
haha thank you Cody!
Brings back memories....
Such a great game & great song! Thanks for bringing back the memories!
Such an amazing song. Brooding with so much atmosphere. Well done!
A very intriguing piece. It reminded me of your metroid streams. 🙂

01:20 - Nice!
Excellent performance.
Kara always plays the most obscure, random SNES tracks I swear...I love it.
This is neither obscure nor random. Super Metroid is the most popular snes game today 😂

The right hand is doing most of the chords. I guess it somehow makes sense because you're under water.

Super Metroid is one of my absolute favorites, I enjoyed playing it and loved how you enjoyed the game too :)

karacoTorch
Creepy stuff - though in a good way.
Keep up the good work ! S.n.e.s was the best console ever.
Please do more of the classics like this, Castlevania iv, contra 3, gradius 3, r-type 👌
We would love Gradius 3 sheets, we'd be requesting them on stream and she'd be playing them. I see zero
She has some Castlevania 4 songs on her tiktok. You can also request them on her stream

it helped for me to listen to the OST right before attempting a sight read of it. Really gave me a sense of what it should sound like!
