    I use copper coat spray every chance I get. Naw Zane.... nobody's been in there before... There's always a stack of washers to take up the too long head bolts...LOL You said it right when you said its just an old tractor not a Rolls Royce. Now if its a family heirloom, go the whole gambit....total rebuild, especially if the old timer is still alive to see it done. But personally I get 'em as good as I can, and get 'em back out the door to use. Its easy to get over your head pretty quick with expenses...and you still have an old tractor that's barely worth the parts ya put in, much less the time. Dang Dustin...40x60 !!?? You'll be killin' it man !! Thanks for the video....you guys rock !!

      @@HODGEPODGEDODGEGARAGE Nows the time to think of in floor radiant heat. The PEX tubing that goes in the concrete is very cheap. The thermal barrier, 2 inch Styrofoam, is more expensive than the tubing, but very necessary. The good thing about in floor radiant heat is the warmest part of the building is down low instead of up at the 16 foot height. And it will be unbelievably warm on your feet as a result. Of course, if he just wanted like a small heated office area of 15 x 15 he could put the pex tubing in one circuit in that area and heat it with a water heater very easily.

    Well it’s not the best news in the world, but it’s certainly not worst case scenario either. That “head bolt” that someone used washers under was pretty comical🤣! I think the story of why it was parked in the first place makes perfect sense. She might not be in tip top shape, but with the right parts I think you guys will have no problem getting to hear it run again. I’m glad you guys are having a good time wrenching on it. Good morning Zane and Dustin!! I bet that head gasket was reused when whoever was in it last time and thats why it’s got that copper spray on it. It was common in days past to reuse a head gasket. I wouldn’t worry about decking the head as long at it passes the straight edge test, I also wouldn’t be worried about those pistons. If it was me I’d just clean them up best as I could and send it back to work. One word of caution when dealing with an engine with removable cylinder liners, it’s a good practice to use a few bolts with large washers to hole the liners in place while you bar the engine over. Sometimes the pistons can have enough resistance against the cylinder wall and it’ll pop the liners up, sometimes very little and you won’t notice it but it will throw off your cylinder liner protrusion and then the head won’t seal properly. I had it happen once so now I always hold them in place with bolts and washers. Keep up the good work fellas - it’ll be great to hear it run again!

      @HODGEPODGEDODGEGARAGE  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Spend some money and fix it right then you know what you have. If you price a good used tractor that size or heaven forbid a new one the money you spend is peanuts compared to new. LOL hey you could've just gone bibbies and no shirt, that's pretty common farmer attire too, and then it cools off and you forget the flannel again.. it sucks getting older and losing your memory don't it? That thing seems like the perfect candidate for a small block or 4.9L straight six swap, a lot more power than factory and a lot easier to find parts for. That's the nice part about the old Ford tractors is they just used a standard truck trans with the tail housing changed so literally anything could bolt up to them so easily. My high school welding teacher had a 1929 Ford tractor with a 21 stud flathead swapped into it, he sold the thing for a grand! I wish I could've had it, it sounded so good.. would've driven that thing to school everyday instead of riding my bike.. would've gotten less hate for it for sure. Holy shit those valves are SHOT! Your valves are supposed to be flat with the head, not recessed into the head.. That looks like someone did a valve job and ground off the head of them and said "this'll be fine" when they needed to get new bigger valves.

    • @HODGEPODGEDODGEGARAGE
      @HODGEPODGEDODGEGARAGE  ปีที่แล้ว

Now that you mention it, I think you're 100% correct on the valves. I didn't even notice until you brought them up! 😵 We'll make sure before things go back together. I appreciate you stopping by my friend. Hopefully things are going well on your end 🙂👍 Talk at you later 🔧🔩

      @@HODGEPODGEDODGEGARAGE been going to PT once a week for four weeks now working on my back.. hurts like hell for a couple days afterwards.. I can bend down and touch the floor (while sitting) with my feet out wider than my hips now. Other than that.. found out I have a nodule in the left side of my thyroid gland on my neck -.- what's one more medical condition? Saw a psyche last week and he turned out to be one of the two asshole Sikhs that went to my high school that I absolutely hated.. Once again nice guys finish last while the assholes end up with a good life. My doctor wanted me to talk to a psyche/shrink to find something to get my mind to turn off and let me sleep at night instead of during the day.. I haven't picked the stuff up yet but even when I do I'm going to try some natural remedies first, tried melatonin last night and it was gross and didn't even do anything, probably actually made me less tired.. I'm going to try coffee (caffeine makes me go to sleep) and then ultimately weed if I can find a better tasting indica because it's legal here.. I've actually got a really nice one I grew this summer that's REALLY fun to smoke but it doesn't help with sleep any, just helps let me be dumb and laugh for a bit and has barely any smell or taste.. Unfortunately it didn't produce really well and the clones all died so what little I have is all I have until I figure out what seeds I have that I dropped made the plant show up in my compost bin. That's one of the few plusses to living in California is that it is legal.
      As for other stuff, the psyche is pushing me to push my doctor harder to try and get on disability so I can get out of the house and do things.. My mom is getting to the point where she agrees with me that I need to get something that gets good mileage because me driving the 03 Ram 2500 HD 4x4 back and forth to town at 11.3mpg is getting expensive and the difference in mileage between it and say a Mini S Clubman, even having to run premium will still be less than paying for the Dodge's gas even when covering the cost of registration and insurance. (those things are actually cheap to register and insure, especially seeings how I've never gotten a ticket.. yet and having just hit 37 it should be even less)
      As for the thyroid thing.. I'm waiting for my ENT to call me and make an appointment for a follow up or call and say we need to make an appointment for an ultrasound to figure out if it's cancerous or not.. the only reason I know about it is I read the review of the CT Scan on the hospital site :P just like I found out what my back Xrays came back as.. which I've developed bone spurs on the front side of my lumbar vertebrae and most of the discs are collapsing.. great... nope.

      I'm not 100% sure. It could have been swapped but others have said it's the standard engine for the tractor. Dustin and I are just going off what people have told us. We're not too familiar with tractors of this era. Thank you for stopping by though Robert 🙂👍

      They did a 4 cylinder version as well in diesel. It was notoriously hard to start compared to the 3 cylinder Perkins. I'm restoring my dad's 1965 MF135, the one after your one. Basically the same but a square bonnet, not round. At least I was able to drive mine to it's current place. Dad had it from nearly new and I learned to drive on it. This is the first of your videos I've watched Zane and, as a Brit, I'm impressed. Anyway, hello from Liverpool UK and keep up the good work!

      Also interesting what Dustin was saying about value... in the UK, in good running order, that or an early MF135 could be worth from £5000 - £7500 and full restored over £10,000.

    If you get a break knife sharpening stone you can run it across the cylinder head sealing surfaces to make sure they are clean and straight before you put it back together with a new head gasket

    I love budget tractors, i think this one should run again just fine as long as the head seals well. I don't remember if it was talked about earlier, but does it have a PTO?

    Second!! Ace! Really like the idea of working with what's there to get it running! Really liked the simplicity there! Was relieved to see it mainly being a gasket issue. Might even be able to clean up the piston tops some. Always looking forward to what's next. Well done my friend! Blessings and respect!

    I wonder if it inhaled something so they removed the head to check it out then decided wasn't worth fixing so just slapped it back together with the old gasket and sprayed it down with that copper crap just to try to seal it it.

    Zane, that engine in that tractor is a called a Standard diesel. It is British diesel. They were notorious hard starters without the glow plugs. I have one that i tried to bring back to life, and then discovered a cracked block. I have a brand new set of injector tips for that, Ill have to look and see if i can find them, I also have the correct exhaust elbow for it. Where are you located if youre close by, youre welcone to them.

      Thanks for the comment John. 👍 Life always comes first. Dustin was happily overwhelmed by the positive response to this series. Thought about starting his own channel for years and this tractor lit the fires again. He is almost finished with a 40x60 shop that he built on his property. Done most of the work himself. He built the garage to help with this project and others. Both Dustin and I are hoping to continue this project about mid summer when the shop is 100% done. The tractor parts have been ordered and are just waiting. Both of us work full time jobs and I live over an hour away from him. During the winter I plow snow and can't work on projects. Hope you understand. Have a great evening 🔧🔩

      Hey, thanks for the view and comment 🙂👍 The project was halted due to the winter months. I plow snow and my friend Dustin is an hour away from me. Not to mention neither of us have a heated shop (as of yet). He has ordered parts and we should have another video out soon when the warm weather is here to stay. Take care and hope to see you again soon 🔧

    Hey guys! love the videos! I was recently given a tractor exactly like that. BLESSED BY GOD! GBTGATC.
    I've been looking at my tractor and diagnosing the problems with my tractor and I was told that I have to replace the pto drive cone, or whatever you call it lol. But they told me that the splines on the pto are wore out and need to be replaced. I turned the pto shaft and noticed that it would freely spin in certain areas and the other areas it would have some hesitation. I could also hear the gears clinking or rubbing together in certain spots. I hope that it won't cost too much to fix up, but I will do what I have to do to get it running. Please post another video on your tractor. Yall are doing a great job! GOD BLESS!

      Hey Taylor! 😁 I'm glad to hear you got a tractor like this one. It should be handy once you've got it fixed up. Hopefully your tractor can be fixed without too much headache. I'm glad you stopped by and I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the video. We haven't made any progress due to winter, but as soon as the weather brakes we're gunna get back to work on this Massey. Take care, be safe and happy wrenching on your project 🔧🔩
