Ghostf***krs was absolutely incredible and encapsulates what made Helluva Boss great in the first place. Brandon Rogers finally turned Millie into a good character in an episode that is undeniably hers and I absolutely adore her friendship with Blitzo, they have such a great dynamic. Millie's backstory not being traumatic at all but still struggling with self-esteem, as hinted in Unhappy Campers, and also tying that into the lore, world building, and commentary on Hell's caste system. Please, Viv, let him write more, he's the best guy on your writing team and this episode proved it.
Now I feel that “Mastermind” will bring back all his negativity about the show. Edit: yep turns out I was rightfully proven correct. His recent review is prove
It's a decent episode, I mean, I like it (specially the Andrealphus parts he's such a great character), but the pacing is very, VERY bad, and the "comedic" parts aren't funny at all lol. Other than that, it's one of the better episode of season 2.
What makes me love this episode so much is that the writing feels like a mini self critic of the season. I find the line "There too caught up in their own misery to remember you even exist!" to be both a meta acknowledgement of her character but also from an inverse perspective as well. Its not some smug "Oh we're soo above out mistakes now" , its more so a "We know and were doing better" while keeping it realistic with the characters. MAN Brandon should cook more.
I love that Millie is at her absolute best here especially when she comforts Blitz whenever he thinks that he ruined everyone's lives, but really he made their lives better. Also Millie called Blitz her best friend.😊💕
the writing behind this episode was so peak. perfect blend of comedy, character development/drama, good writing, AND THEY ACTUALLY WENT UP TO EARTH TO KILL SUM1!!!
I was so ready for Blitzo to try and get Stolas back just to see Stolas with the "better than Blitzo" guy, and Stolas finally deciding to MOVE ON. But the writers would rather make Stolitz a couple than have a complex classism arc.
Regarding the episode order there was indeed a shuffle in season 2 and IIRC this one was originally episode 6. I think Brandon still believed that to be the case that one time when talking about his only episode this season, which was definitely after the official new order was already publicly announced. And that version was most certainly the one the leaked storyboard was for, as it heavily focused on Barbie as the center of Blitz's emotional turmoil that Rolando tried to exploit. Which fits right after Unhappy Campers, which was still ep05. So I'm sure that's part of why the Stolas setup feels a bit "tacked on" even in the current version. As for what the restructuring was for, we can only guess, but the general pivot towards the Stolitz stuff would be a fairly logical reason for moving the episodes around e.g. to make room for Full Moon+Apology Tour+Mastermind+Sinsmas at the end with only this episode breaking the Stolitz sequence up. Which would make sense because the only remaining episodes that probably were already in production was basically the Fizz arc with 2 episodes that needed to be together, which resulted in Brandon's episode getting a rewrite and shoved in at the end. This also kinda explains the inconsistency you pointed out regarding Blitz having no one despite already Fizz back as a close friend. Now usually people's rebuttal is that allegedly Vivzie claimed to have written the entirety of season 2 years in advance with no chance for any pivoting, but that's already kinda disproven by the aforementioned and officially confirmed Ghostf**kers rewrite. Official statements are confusing on their own enough already, like Viv one time stating that the rest of the whole series is already locked in and written down to each episode, then just recently celebrating having finished writing the finale for season 3. All of which would be pretty irrelevant if the show was good per se, it's just only fair IMO to want to know the reasons behind such a spectacular decline in a show.
The writing on this one was certainly a lot snappier, like each line had a lot more weight, sharpness, and wit compared to the usual episodes. Excellent review by the way, brought good points I hadn’t considered before.
This episode does feel like it should have been Season 1. It's got a backstory for one of our main characters. How is it that we got the backstory for Fizz BEFORE we got a backstory for Millie? Viv will tell you that the show is male-led but but... Wasn't Millie literally a protagonist?
What a surprise! The best episode out of S2, and it is Brandon's writing. I'm sensing a pattern here. It's almost as if Brandon is the important lifeboat of a sinking ship. Overall, the show could improve by trimming the fat and getting rid of some weakest links, as well as establishing a new leader, a new era after ending an old era.
apology tour had the same issue. could have been great if blitz actually had something to apologize for. Same goes for blitz's crashout in full moon. It was great, it highlighted how blitz felt about stolas until that point, IT CALLS OUT STOLAS' HYPOCRISY, but it doesn't match how blitz treats stolas and vice versa during apology tour. Please writers, you should have given blitz something to apologize for and SHOWN US that stolas doesn't view his actions as hypocritical. Show us that we are not meant to side with him.
Blanter is trying to make me watch the series, I suppose I will be watching this episode soon... Good thing I already spoiled myself before this review :3
I would describe helluvaboss as a sea of slop ranging from mid to absolutely cringeworthy, but then each episode has 1 or 2 moments that are masterfully written. Helluvaboss as a whole is imo 50% mid, 40% Cringeworhy, and 10% REALLY good moments.
One of the best episodes. It has both strong consistency and subtle call backs to other eps like the sucubus in the building. While we know Moxie is distracted or wants to be selective (Murder family, seeing stars, camp) we get that it is a character trait that Millie is always locked into the job in this ep by showing Blitzo distracted we see that focus on the job isn't the default. Finally, a flashsback for Millie. Long over due, she should have got one in the ep with her ex. We now know why her attitude toward Blitzo is so chill for his weird behavior. Shorts like the one where she shares sexualizing Moxie with Blitzo help me buy that they are friends but it needs structure to come together like this ep. Friends don't always have equal levels of affection. He can be her best friend and Blitzo's best friend could be Fizz. It is a good kind of sad. Character wise.
Nice review, I liked what you said about how some animated series should have fun once in a while. When you're finished when you're finished with season two of Helluva Boss will you look at other Indie Animated series?
DUDE WHENEVER A NEW EPISODE DROPS I FEEL MY HEART BEAT THROUGH MY CHEST FOR THE WHOLE DAY WHILE I WAIT FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO LOCK MYSELF IN MY ROOM TO WATCH THE NEW EPISODE AT LEAST TWICE.
I’ve lost interest in helluvaboss ever since season 1 ended. The amount of cringeworthy moments just is tiring, and when I have a show that I’m embarrassed to watch on a long bus ride when I’m bored, that’s when we have a problem. However Helluvaboss does have a few shining moments that stand out from the rest of the hyper-vulgar profanity filled slop that is most of the show.
Personally, I don't put this episode as high up, but granted, that beginning really bored me. At best. Though after the egregious amount of terrible jokes from Blitz it was a really good episode!
I'm glad you liked it but personally I found it boring, also there was this insane homeless person in the live chat called TotallyNot. You should check that out 🙂
I miss when the show was actually funny. This episode was mix btw what we have now and what we used to have. As much I was happy that we finally get more content of the characters I still think it will be better if they stick with the pilot
Dude, the whole 2nd season is better than 1st one, from the amazing first episode of it - to the last one, having un intrigued how things might change after this and how the story can even be combined with the "Hazbin Hotel" show for the next season
@@WeebGuru6But it *is* focused on her. It centers on how she's the heart who keeps I.M.P. afloat. I’m sorry but no matter How good it is, I am not interested at all, and I don’t care in the slightest, I know it’s good, but it’s not my thing and never will.
