Yep, I’ve switched to spray guns since a while back and I love it. Mostly because it’s much more diverse in what you can do, the colors available and of course, for the 2k products, you only have to mix up what you will use and don’t have to waste a whole can. Nice results:) It would be less time consuming to spray your second clear nice and wet 10-20 mins right after. Then wet sand and buff any dust etc during the final stage.
I'm about to do the carbon fiber crown on a suspension fork. I'm using DupliColor engine enamel ceramic, because I already have a can. I will use this video as a partial guide. Thanks. Like already mentioned, that 'music' made the video a bit hard to watch.

Thanks. For 2k products (primer and clear coat I waint at least 24 hours (preferably longer, especially if it’s humid and/or cold. I sand 2k primer and 2k clear coat (not the last coat), I don’t sand 1k base coat. Base coats (1k solvent based) usually cures within 2 hours, but check the can, and you can clear coat on top of it after that. If you want to be sure, wait one day. 👌

Great video, do you feel sore throat or any symptom after painting with that type of mask? Seem like every time im using this mask to paint my throat get sore after. Just wondering if im alone or not. Im using proper 3M paint mask fitted properly i dont know...
Thanks! I don’t have an issue with a sore throat but I did find that the mask in this video is a leaking quite a bit. I have replaced it with a new 3m mask and find it better. As I understand, replacing the filters on a regular basis is the best way to keep the function of the mask hi. 👍
Was the corrosion removal with the initial sanding? Or is it presumed that there is no corrosion layer because the frame had paint? I am just learning about painting on aluminum.
Aluminum is really tricky. Most painter clean it with a degreaser and paint with etch primer or epoxy primer. There is a way that I learned after completing this frame. Ive made a video on base prepp here where I explain the methods. th-cam.com/video/76VBieJ66PY/w-d-xo.html

Hello friend.. I have already painted 4 frames, and I have used the same spray cans, and the same thing always happens to me with the vynil... the glue or residue sticks to the base paint... what substance do you use to remove the glue?
You like the green color I guess. Yes, you can spray clear coat directly on to it. But unless you like that particular color, you will be very limited as most primers only comes in one or two colors.
Yes, a matt clear coat. The clear coat is a completely different kind of coat, designed to create a hard durable surface that withstand uv light, weather and scratches. You can choose between 1k and 2k clear coat. 1k is cheaper, but waker, 2k is tougher, but a bit more expensive.

@@Downtimelegion cant be sure, but a few possible reasons: the can and paint is cold. That makes the paint thicker and also the pressure in the can lower. Hence, the paint spit. Put the can in a bucket of hot water for 5-10 minutes before you paint. Another reason may be if the paint cap is used/dirty. A third, is there paint on your “trigger finger”? A common mistake is to “dipp” the trigger finger in from of the nozzle and that causes the paint to spit. So check that out and see if it helps. 👍
Nice. The cutting is done with a razor blade that is mounted in the cutting machine. If you only plan to paint one bike/thing than it’s quite an expensive tool (from approximately 300 USD) but very useful if you like to paint or do different kind of craft. Stencils are also available to buy. You will be more limited but it will only set you back a few $.

Nope! The clear coat will stick well on the paint, so no need. You might actually end up hurting the pain job. What I do though is that I sand the the first layer of clear coat. Thats to smoothen out edges on the logos and graphics, and any other uneven parts. :)

@@andres-gu8yu sounds about right. If/when you sand in between layers of clear coat, the surface will bee a bit foggy/matte and thats fine. The second layer will fill it out and make it shiny. 👍

Thanks! I would definetly recomand two cans of each, both primer and clear. You will not need it all, but as a beginner you will not be as effectiv with the paint as a pro would be. I used two of each. You do two layers and if you end up short it can ruin your work. If you have two frames and do them at the same time you would probably make it with three. The 2K cans are useless after 48 hours so even if you have some left, its no use.I have another video where I paint a carbon frame out, so check that out as well, hopefully som more tips and trix there. Design and cut them myself in my Silhouette Cameo vinyl cutter (see link in description). But google vinyl stencils and you can find people who can do it for you. 👌

Hi Adam, The color spray is Montana cans gold series. Acrylic solvent based paint. The clear coat is Spraymax 2K gloss clear coat. It has a Internal casing with an activator that you push in tho the bottom of the can. I don’t know if these brands ar available in Indonesia. Lite svårt att säga eftersom att oliks skärmar/displayer har olika färgtoner. Men på min Iphone skulle jag säga att den är väldigt lik verkligen. 👍 Jag är dock mer och mer skeptisk till Montanas färger. Jag har haft en del problem med att det fastnar limmrester från maskeringstejp och stencilvinylen. Har inte haft samma problem med andra märken. Går själv mer och mer mot bilfärg där du har hela RAL-systemet att välja på. De är lire dyrare men jag upplever en kvalitetsskillnad. Men om du inte ska maska eller så är Montana helt ok. 👍
@@MYnextDIYbikePROJECT Tackar, ska kolla på en iPhone senare. Detta är mitt första cykelprojekt (single speed av gammal racer) och inget ska maskas så jag tänkte testa Montana men med samma klarlack som du använder. Vill inte lägga för mycket pengar på första projektet.

@@derekford7230 well, I prefer the 2K epoxy primers for maximum duration and adhesion. A mix will always be a compromise. If its an expensive/premium bike frame I would not cut corners in that way. If it’s a more “simple” job that you don’t want to spend to much time and money on, then go ahead. 👍
Well, it works great, no chipping or problems 2 years after. However, nowday i mostly use epoxy primer on aluminium, but after Iv've scuffed the whole frame with ammonia to remove the aluminum oxidation.
@@MYnextDIYbikePROJECT Yep, the oxidation has to be removed... Sorry, I meant epoxy primer. Well, I haven't any experience with the method you did before, so that was more of a question ;) Good to hear there are no problems after. I gotta try that on another bike! Good inspiration!

Not in one day, but sure you can paint outside. Preferably on a calm, no wind day. Don’t paint in direct sunlight. 👌

Tänkte spraya min cykel i någon grön färg. Montana har ett gäng olika. Skulle du säga att Manila green ser ut som i videon även i verkligheten?
Lite svårt att säga eftersom att oliks skärmar/displayer har olika färgtoner. Men på min Iphone skulle jag säga att den är väldigt lik verkligen. 👍
Jag är dock mer och mer skeptisk till Montanas färger. Jag har haft en del problem med att det fastnar limmrester från maskeringstejp och stencilvinylen. Har inte haft samma problem med andra märken. Går själv mer och mer mot bilfärg där du har hela RAL-systemet att välja på. De är lire dyrare men jag upplever en kvalitetsskillnad. Men om du inte ska maska eller så är Montana helt ok. 👍

Detta är mitt första cykelprojekt (single speed av gammal racer) och inget ska maskas så jag tänkte testa Montana men med samma klarlack som du använder. Vill inte lägga för mycket pengar på första projektet.

@@derekford7230 well, I prefer the 2K epoxy primers for maximum duration and adhesion. A mix will always be a compromise. If its an expensive/premium bike frame I would not cut corners in that way. If it’s a more “simple” job that you don’t want to spend to much time and money on, then go ahead. 👍

You really need that etching primer? I'd take it for steel frames and the 2k acrylic for alu and carbon... imo
Well, it works great, no chipping or problems 2 years after. However, nowday i mostly use epoxy primer on aluminium, but after Iv've scuffed the whole frame with ammonia to remove the aluminum oxidation.
@@MYnextDIYbikePROJECT Yep, the oxidation has to be removed... Sorry, I meant epoxy primer. Well, I haven't any experience with the method you did before, so that was more of a question ;)

This job of painting a bicycle frame is time consuming and costly I would not attempt to paint a bicycle frame myself no way.

Always wear full body cover and goggles. Spray paint gets inside your body through your eyes.

You could have literally dropped off the bike to get professionally powder coated for the money you spend on all the products
Why would I do that? Not very DIY.
