Thank you Doddy for shining the spotlight on the amount of work that artists/designers/painters put into creating a custom job (15 hours just for prep work). Hats off to the guys at Fat Creations for taking the time to share their knowledge to a wider audience about the entire process. Truly a work of art. I think this is the best custom build ever, so far.
As a custom painter myself, always good to have a bit of a light shone on the complications and time involved in even a simple paintjob! Such a nice job by Fat Creations!
Without sounding cheeky I was really surprised how much I enjoyed this, Started watching it to fill in some time and was hooked. The detail and dedication of those guys. If I am ever in the market for a custom paint job I know where to go. Truly amazing work.
I totally agree with Bex saying that paint is a process that you need a lot of patience for. And this is what some clients don't understand.. Painting a bike is not a joke.
A company i use to work for that didn't specialise in bikes specifically but did a decent job powder coating them charged £180 if you brought the bike in pre-stripped
Just search for a decent powder coating company in your area and ask them if they can do it for you, if you can speak to the sprayer rather than the boss you might even get it done abit cheaper 😉
Hats off to those two for there work! Looks amazing I’m glad that he didn’t SUGARCOAT the whole process and was honest. He basically give the “Sh@t Happens 🤷🏻♂️, deal with it calmly” analogy. Which any professional painter I’ve ever talk to will tell you it’s a chemical you’re spraying it on the surface of a product sometimes just doesn’t go to plan. Gather yourself and take your time it. Great video guys. Looks KILLER Doddy!!!
Nice video. Ages ago I had my Ti IF-Crown Jewel custom painted, by IF. I came up with the design, created a graphic layout of it, and talked details with the person painting. Came out great. Due to the design being based on the Rising Sun emblem, at IF, my bike became known as the 'Kamikaze bike'. During Covid lockdowns I picked up aircraft model making and air-brushing the designs (creating custom designs - not going with military 'paint' layouts). Many similar methods and procedures that I'm learning.
Very informative. Thanks a lot for allowing to see the process through until that gorgeous mountainbike is assembled to its final look! Lots'a love, cheers, & Mabuhay, from tropical Philippines! #RideOn #KeepBiking
A professional is someone who let's things look easy regardless of their actual complexity. An absolute blast to see somebody who is on top of his game... like Call of Duty 😉(@11:40). The knowledge oozing from his brain like it is breathing for him is mind blowing and an testament for his craft. Like a guitarrist who spent thousands of hours to hit the notes you will never reach.
Cracking video and it’s always lovely to see Fat Creations in action. Loved the scheme, a true classic! That red is immensely bright. Can’t believe you got YT to let you do it. More of these videos :)
Great video! It’s funny, I was told about Fat Creations by my bike shop and the polished aluminum look is what I was considering going with. Just beautiful 🤩
If I had to choose, I would either go back to the early 90s where colours were crazy or go for the time when the colour of the Rock Shox fork determined the colour of the frame, the stem and anything else. I have my old Scott RC Scandium frame around, maybe this would make a good project.
doddie.... that bike is just beautiful... end off😎. i started custom painting helmets some years ago and the painting is the easy bit but the time spent prep and masking and also being patient between coats is the hard bit. if it goes wrong , you can always correct it.The guys at fat Creations are top of the pile in my book....... enjoy your new creation doddy😎😎
Oh man, I‘m not an impatient person in the workshop at all but this job is for zen monks. The amount of dedication is incredible. The M950 cranks on the original bike look a bit odd. I think the bike was around 92-93 but the M950 came out in 96. (I know good, unscratched M900 cranks are rare as diamonds)
Liked that immensely and do all my own spray jobs but where I fail to get that tip top result is right at the end with the heat hardening which I simply can't do in my spare bedroom.
Just like welding titanium if you don't get the prep right you have nackerd the weld before even turning the welder on, always fancyed trying to do a custom paint job on my bike after watching Etoe on youtube, as they just look amazing!! i did know somewot what gose into a custom pain job as i try to do it on my rc car bodys but thats no where near the work off art Fat Creations have done on your bike it looks amazing!!
15 hours prep for a bike frame. Holy moly, what must one of those low rider custom LA cars with the multiple pinstriping and different fleck paint take. It must be into the thousands of hours 😲
Painter here also, when Ali says "it is what it is" hit a cord, that must be a painter saying 😂😂. No such thing as a simple paint job, excellent attention to detail at Fat Creations.
Think I would have rawed an alu Capra instead to capture the feel of the original then had fat creations do something wild like the old Klein's or a fat chance yo eddy's 😍 still nice all the same 👌
Bike's are more testing to paint compared to a car. Flat surface's are much easier to see you've got complete coverage. And no dry spots, like you can get with tubes, if you've not gone over it carefully.

All the graphics actually being paint is just incredible! True artists!
It is truly insane when he shows how much layers of masking needed
For sure! So much effort goes into custom painting bikes! Fat Creations do such a great job! 🔥

As a spray painter and a mtb'er I absolutely loved this. Been following Al and Bex for ages. They do such awesome work.
True craftsmanship and attention to detail, plus a truly stunning finished bike. Well done to all. 👍
I totally agree with Bex saying that paint is a process that you need a lot of patience for. And this is what some clients don't understand.. Painting a bike is not a joke.
Absolutely gorgeous! Well done Fat and Doddy!
Thanks for watching! We're stoked you love the bike! 👍
So awesome. Not many realize the amount of work that goes into these insane builds!
Thanks a ton! For sure! 👊
Joy to watch such skilled people st work.
Wow that came out amazing. That is the guy you want painting your bike! I have to ask, what is the final cost to get this type of custom paint job?
no answer?

BTW I know this guy is wet spraying but powder coating is a lot more durable and will last a lot longer and looks exactly the same
It looks absolutely amazing, Doddy! 🤩

What a fantastic video, I have painted my own frame and I had no idea how hard these guys work and the end result is better than factory…….WOW
Nice video.

Having used a double action airbrush for many years, I can totally relate to this and how hard it is.

I've always wanted a custom paint by Fat Creations.. They're amazing!

That looks sick! I want to paint my '06 Trek Fuel EX-7 and this has given me more knowledge on the process.
Bike looks super nice!!
Can only imagine how good it really looks in real life, 👊🏻
Nice work and most important, show the time and precision that takes a good work to be done 👏🏼
True artists at work… can’t watch enough fab creations work 👌👌

You did good Doddy 👍
Awesome to see the process of custom painting. Awesome bike too! 🥰
I had my Yeti Lawwill dh6 custom sprayed by Fatcreations, and the Yeti head tube badge is awesome
Awesome bike❤, awesome process to see- hats off to the painters out there !! 😮
That looks awesome
Mental amount of work n head scratching goin in to that lol
I love manitou suspension
Great color combo. looks amazing
That’s well nice Doddy, a really good nod to the original and a very interesting video. Nice work all round 👊🏻😎
Gorgeous! What a result!
Recently tried my hand at spraying a frame after practicing on a few old parts.
I thought it came out nice but this is just something else
@doddy well worth the wait. Amazing 😍. By the way really enjoyed that glass of 🍷 watching your vid. Thanks again for amazing content.
Its lovely! Great job!

A nice clean look, love it! I would have included a stencil with my name if it was my bike.
Beautiful! I’d have cleared any rocks from the trail before riding it.
You and us both! 🤣
Aaaawesome! Thanks for the insights. Looks absolutely stunning.
So cool. Great video guys!
Liked that immensely and do all my own spray jobs but where I fail to get that tip top result is right at the end with the heat hardening which I simply can't do in my spare bedroom.
Very cool. Hat’s off to that shop. I wonder what the cost would of been for an average customer?
@Andrew Dodd thanks buddy ! Take care and keep up the great work

Doddy, that's one sick bike dude 👌 🤘
Respect. It's a. Beauty!! What a bunch of great paint genies . 💞💕👍👊💥💫💥
Beautiful! Have fun riding it.
Im a paint sprayer by trade. Its a very difficult job to do, especially to this standard. Painters at the high level are definitely undervalued
Amazing work and a truly inspiring video. 👏
Thanks so much, Tim! Fat Creations and Manitou were a great help in making this insane build! 👊
Nice video, very nice bike and paint job.
It seems like everyone I watch is repainting their bikes. It started with Wolf Tick Videos and then Berzerker Nick!
I would love to know the retail price for that paint job.
The money is ALWAYS in the prep. That is the difference in a quality job
That is a sweet thing. Just awesome.
i had a question on one of the last videos where you built that winter hardtail the stickers were sick and I wondered where you bought theam
is it grey polished or chrome like the original? i am confused...
I feel like stickers for the logos would have saved a lot of time.
It's not as cool, though! 😉
@dahanger spotted at 02:15 ! Do you still have the original Manitou MTB?
True art!
For sure! What a bike, and what a classic it's inspired by! 🙌
Awesome vid!
Love this. The concept, the quality work and the outcome.
What do you do with all the bikes you build?
Great Video!! whats the best way to clean and degrease carbon before primer?
15 hours prep for a bike frame. Holy moly, what must one of those low rider custom LA cars with the multiple pinstriping and different fleck paint take. It must be into the thousands of hours 😲
I'm 42 seconds in, so before you start let me just say it's all about the.............
preparation, preparation, preparation !
amazing results
Cool job!! Where can I get the stickers that you use to prevent getting the paint where you don't want it?
great job!!! i would love to get my hands on this mtb! :D
what if i want the silver to stay matte how it was before the laquer would i be able to leave the paint like that
Amazing work! I'm curious what paint and mask you use. I was guessing 2k but it looks like a filtration respirator, not air fed?
How do you fix paint that has been peeled off from a vinyl transfer?
Looks like a F1 car! Beautiful.
It's certainly a fine bit of engineering with an awesome paint job! 😍
I have a fairly new mtb forks do i need to prime if im going over with the same color (black) - also what grit level shall i start with thanks?
It's unreal how much work goes into this! I'm wondering how factories speed up the painting process for catalog bikes? #ASKGMBNTECH
Painter here also, when Ali says "it is what it is" hit a cord, that must be a painter saying 😂😂. No such thing as a simple paint job, excellent attention to detail at Fat Creations.
AMAZING!!!!
Mind sharing the color code of that silver?, it is my absolute favorite color🤩 and thinking about repainting my bike because it looks zo good!
Freakin' Nice!!
Agreed! Doddy, Manitou and Fat Creations did a great job of bringing this whole build together!
Absolute beauty
I thought the bike looked cool before this video, now it looks insane 🤯
Nice bike 😊👍🏻👍🏻
Think I would have rawed an alu Capra instead to capture the feel of the original then had fat creations do something wild like the old Klein's or a fat chance yo eddy's 😍 still nice all the same 👌
Just bought a new bike frame thinking of painting and first video I watch same frame YT LOL 😆
to be honest, it's literally artwork, what these guys can do
100%! The people at Fat Creations are insane at their job!
thought it was gonna look lame but turned out AMAZIN!
Of course it would look amazing! 😅 Fat Creations did an amazing job!
Superb. What type is the gun painter?
Minedbowing 🤯
What crankset is on this bike? Thanks
This is amazing. I really enjoyed watching this, come away inspired.
are cube decals logos under clear coat or not?
What's the price point?
💥AWESOME!!!! 💥

Nice cranks!
how much does a paint job like that cost?
I hope you've invisd it Doddy!
Whoah yeah!!!!
Do they do e mtb bikes?
Absolute🔥
