    The hammer 🔨 nailed this one! Maybe the camera is removable so you can upgrade just the camera in the future. Hopefully in 2022 4K will be added and you could just swap the camera and use the old one for another location.

    Great review video. I'd like to think that they designed the camera to be detachable for easy replacement or repair, also may have the flexibility to upgrade it to a 4k version at some point.

  • @littlejimmy7402
    @littlejimmy7402 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yeah, I kind of flip the question back at you, even though I know the answer. Why did you mount it so low? (yes, the existing light was there, I get it). Luckily, where I've mounted my Nest cams (I don't have the flood light yet, but thanks to your helpful review I'm planning on adding it to the project list) I've been able to keep them high enough that they can't be reached without a ladder.
    2 of the spots I wanted to put these would totally be reachable (maybe even without exposing the culprit). I wonder if I could print a shell or something, that's an idea to play with. Thanks for the thought.

    • @GeorgeLangabeer
      @GeorgeLangabeer  ปีที่แล้ว

      It was simply for demonstration purposes. The other option was 25 feet up & that would have made for a horrible video.

    • @GeorgeLangabeer
      @GeorgeLangabeer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This installation was just for demonstration purposes & I normally wouldn’t install the camera this low. My general rule of thumb is at least 10 feet (ideally somewhere between 10-15 feet). If you go higher than that the camera won’t be as effective.

    I really appreciate your videos. Two quick questions: 1. With the outdoor Nest camera, the internet says it picks up motion at 15 feet. Seens too short to me. Have you found that to be true? 2. With the security mount, can you still angle the camera 90 degrees from the base? I live in alleys so this is important. Thank you!

      @GeorgeLangabeer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So glad you’re enjoying them!
      1. I find the motion distance just fine for pretty much any house. Not ideal for some businesses, but fine for any home.
      2. Yes you can. You’ll be surprised how much flexibility that magnet Mount has. With the 130 degree viewing angle, you’ll see plenty positioned like that.

Question though, this is the 3rd video I've watched where the reviewer has questioned why the next gen nest was 1080p and yet every video mentioned how the 1080p was still a great resolution (both day and night). So, why does it matter? Again, great video and I'm looking forward to installing.

    • @GeorgeLangabeer
      @GeorgeLangabeer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks!….Because 1080p is on its way out. 2K, 4K & soon 8k will be the ideal resolutions for cameras going forward. I can’t speak for everyone, but for me personally, i say that because I don’t think you should come out with a new product that supports old technology. Google & Nest know full well this resolution will be a thing of the past very soon. Apple has the same problem with HomeKit Secure Video being locked at 1080p. They need to step that up too.

      I’ve been wanting to get some kind of camera for quite some time now, but have been put off by the fact that they can be stolen so easily and the fact that lots of people do steal them.
      I was hoping the flood light version would be built in one unit to deter people from the stealing them. Its just so easy to pull of the magnet mount.
      By the way, I can’t work out why people steal them ?
      obviously to sell them or re-use them, but I would have assumed they would have made them so they can’t be re-used without some kind of password being entered ?
      Why don’t they make cameras that come with a unique identifier password that will only work for that specific camera ?
      This would obviously stop theft

    • @GeorgeLangabeer
      @GeorgeLangabeer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of the time, a thief will destroy or steal a camera just to prove a point. Or they will do it right before breaking into a house. Unless the camera is an older model, in most cases a stolen camera is useless to the thief.
      Installing a good wired NVR system with good vandal proof cameras solves these problems. People get what they pay for & cheap Wi-Fi cameras are the ones easy to steal.

    I'm not knocking the floodlight part, but Nest’s new cameras are so bad that people line up to buy older models at inflated prices. With the latest Nest Cams only working with the Google Home app, most people are turning to eBay to get older, discontinued models that still support the good old Nest app. Lowe's also had the Nest Outdoor cameras for $70 on clearance.

    • @GeorgeLangabeer
      @GeorgeLangabeer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All I know is, we’ve been installing these new Nest cameras on a daily basis & our customers have been very happy with them. I wouldn’t install them everyday if people didn’t like them. I wouldn’t be in business anymore. So I guess, just don’t believe everything you read on the internet.
      My only complaint is having to use the two apps if you’re mixing the old cameras with the new.
