I pulled the driveshaft off on my Escape and never replaced it. It is still front wheel drive which is no problem in the snow or rain. All wheel drive is totally unnecessary unless you live in constant mud or ice. I have 2 trucks which are 4 wheel drive for that. Don't forget to change the oil on the PTU of that car before it grenades. The PTU is the tiny transfer case for that car.
I'm 900 miles from home and the carrier bearing shit out on me. Gonna have to remove the drive shaft in a walmart parking lot and get home with just front wheel drive.
Thank you for this video. There's not nearly enough engine replacement videos for these if your engine detonates or you need to do the timing you should do a video.
I would have replaced the u joints when you had it apart. Maybe that thread locker you cleaned off those bolts keeps moister or water from getting into those bearings in the end of the shaft?
Can someone please tell me what the name for the bearings he is mentioning at the 6:12 minute mark is, I did a dummy and lost one of the bearings and can not for the life of me figure out the correct term for it so I can replace it. Thanks
Harry, I pulled on the top of a front shaft that was already removed from a car. Didn't know about the ball bearings. They fell out inside. I had to remove the lid, then get the ball bearings back in their cage. Ok. All back together. But how much grease should I use in the front cage?
Good video. Didn't see if you put thread lock on the bolts when you put them back in. My only suggestion for anyone doing this is to replace the ujoints since you have everything apart and they are fairly cheap. Otherwise great video and walkthrough.
I just finished replacing the two universal joints and center bearing on my 2001 escape. When I started tourquing the bolts on the cv joint and u joint straps I could not turn the driveshaft to reposition the bolts. The front tires were on ramps, rear tires off the ground and transmision in neutral. Was the driveshaft trying to turn the front wheels?
I will never get a 4 wheel drive or rear wheel drive car again. Too many extra expensive moving parts to replace. 4 wheel drive or AWD is just a waste of money. They are used maybe 3 to 4 times a year. Maybe in the mountains of Colorado or Alaska.

@@mattotto8152 I removed the entire driveline from the front transfer case flange back to the rear differential.
Nicely done....thank you. Helped me quiet a bit. Appreciate the time you took to do it properly

This was incredibly therapeutic and relaxing. Thank you!
Ball bearing tip was very helpful.
I hit thumbs up when you started listing foot pounds 100% good job!

You saved me money and most importantly time. Not many good videos on ford escape unfortunately
Great video. Thanx.. Watched many videos, like you said.. I knew those CV joints were not to come apart.

Looked everywhere cannot find just the Center Support bearing for the driveshaft..?

Question I need to replace a drive center shaft is this the same ?
How did it run with a scrap yard replacement?
You clean the threads that has thread lock on them! You should have put thread lock on them bolts!
What do you do if all the ball bearings fall out?😡
You don't believe in using lubricants to help with those nuts and bolts?
