I cant explain how dissapointedd I am that neither of the studio songs sound like these renditions. Much more raw, much more energy, much more feeling.
I've never smoked meth and drove the wrong way down the interstate at night, blindfiolded, with my lights off, but if I did, this would be playing full blast.
If you're talkin about the segment at 3:20 it's a lot easier to do than you'd think. The main catalyst in playing like that is volume and knowing a few tricks. When you land with enough force on a few notes (for example in this particular segment the notes played are 0-12-0-15-12 with 0 being the open D) you can take your fingers off of the fretboard and it will cause the string to vibrate with the open note. Plus he was in a noise band where he wore a thick pink bunny mask and couldn't hardly see shit so in short JPD's just really good with his fingies.
I don't think anyone is stoked about that. At least the silver lining is that now we will have professionally shot and recorded live show for the archives! Nothing beats a live show though
@@totalgarbage2053 nah John Dwyer in the middle of the day halfway through a set was the only John Dwyer for a long time and he was still a total maniac, squattin and firin' big ol' guitar-lasers into the ceiling
This is peak Osees live, the perfect line-up. The keys player in the middle adds so much to their sound. It's like when Wilco added Glen Kotche and Nels Cline, only rad. Even the visual of them on stage in this setting feels iconic, with the straw hats and grizzled looks. When they all bob their heads in unison, it's like watching a coven cast a spell. And they sound like a band that has just been playing together for months. They are clockwork. This a truly impressive performance and one that should have people talking about Osees as the premier live rock and roll act in America, which they are.
Yeah; that floated into my mind too when they were playing. And the sky looks nice behind them. In fact, pretty much everything about this session is perfect.
guys not every outdoor filmed concert is Pompeii... this one doesn't even do anything to actually remind you of that... no steady tracking shot, no rolling dolly, no capture bass cam, none of the editing tricks... just a couple dudes walking around with handhelds
That's how I approach this band. An Osees album just says, "Hey, if you come to see us live, we'll show you the real version." And it works because you almost always want to hear the real version.
thebestever475 um 😐 oh sees predates King Gizz. Gizz takes influence from Oh Sees. Oh Sees literally helped produce ‘I’m in Your Mind Fuzz’ and ‘Quarters’ on Castle Face Records. Oh Sees is a huge influence on King Gizz.

I never clicked into this band until this video and performance. Now I get it. I’ve watched this 10 times in 3 days and I plan on ripping them off as much as possible on my next album.
I cannot believe that actually played these songs together. Chem farmer has always been one of my favs even though its so simply. Love it being paired with Nite Expo. Fucking awesome.
If they needed a band scene in another adaptation of the Dark Tower then they could use this footage as is; or just get John and the boys to play again I suppose. I just cannot get over how good this performance is; it blows my mind every-time.
Hats off to whoever ran sound on this!
Hats off to the drummers
Hats off to everyone involved for pulling off such an incredible performance.
Especially in mixing the drums badly in the first song...
This is truly when these guys became the greatest rock group on the planet.

The decision to add another drummer is brilliant! They can add complexity when they want or just play in synchrony. They did both here, masterfully.
The way one drummer goes off while the other keeps the beat reminded of how CAN recorded the drum solo for "Mother Sky". I dig it.
