Imagine if you could get paid by the gov for getting your tortoise laid to help endangered species, that would be both hilarious and great for the species (since they have to be registered and chosen by the state so there would be security on both ends (like knowing which males and females are paired up so poaching them for mate's wouldn't be a thing)

I miss my Leopard Tortoise, I gave him to a breeder when he got to that age, he was really good friends with his bucket shelter 😉 I was offered money and or a baby but I just wanted him to have a good home and didn’t want to replace him. I miss my Tortor.
Haha!! We feed our tortoise dandelion greens, clover, plantain, and knock out roses! He loves flowers! In the lawn he goes walking around looking for flowers first lol

i feel like a Captive animal tender site would be actually amazing have everything open to the public to view but only registered breeding programs can make profiles. I think it would be a really good way to help find those lonely animals or the very rare animals a partner and allow the public to see what really happens in breeding programs to help with the "they should be in the wild" comments and allow the public to donate either to animal centers themselves or to animal charities.
Look up "species survival plan" - it basically already exists, for animals in accredited zoos. And takes into account genetic diversity in the captive population, as well as things like capacity for placement of any resulting offspring.
My kids and I adopted a turtle someone abandoned in a box. He liked to sleep with me, and I would wake up to find him cuddled up to my neck. I cried for a week when he died.
