    Good information. The only bones i have to pick are with technique. When probing connectors it is IMPERATIVE that you use a probe that is the same size as the pin that goes into the connector or smaller there is visable terminal spreading on your ABS pins from the large probes spreading the connectors. This can cause intermittent connections and compound issues from self induced problems. The other is the Ohms test from ABS to sensor. Having an other than spec reading does not auto fail the sensor it just confirms an issue in the system. Seperate sensor and wire Short-to-Ground and Short-to-Power tests then need to be performed. Other than technicalities the video was well made.

    Good morning. I am restoring a 1954 Dodge Fargo 1/2 ton. I changed the rear axle with a newer GMC Jimmy. When I got it home I noticed that wire you are talking about. I had no idea what it was used for. I have no intension of reusing it, but it was nice to learn what it was used for. Thanks for sharing. 🍁👍👍

    I am in the middle or doing this right now. The nut and stud came out easily. The sensor, on the other hand, is really stuck. Rather than accidentally breaking it, I decided to take a break and watch your video again. Wow! Your sensor came out easily. Mine won't even twist. I guess that is the downside of living in the snow belt where the road crew answers to snow is throw down more salt.

      I got it out, but the plastic housing around the magnet stayed in the opening. After a bit of careful work I got it out enough to grab with some needle nose pliers and pulled. I am hoping the thing I saw flying off was the o-ring as it was not in the hole. Finding it on a driveway wasn't happening. Installing the new one was an easy task. I cleared the codes, but still had the ABS and Brake light until I switched out a fuse. After that everything worked. This is about all I can do to get things ready for a safety check as removing broken exhaust manifold bolts and replacing them and the gaskets is not something I want to do.

      @4DIYers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad to hear you got it sorted out. With the exhaust bolt, unfortunately you'll need either a welder or acetylene torch. Hopefully the shop is fair with the pricing for that repair. I know some will charge a premium for such a job. The only thing you can do is pop the fender liner out to save them a little time. I have a bunch more videos if you're seeking more repair info as well.

    I've replaced the sensor but my speedometer is still not working and the abs and brake light are on. After watching the video I tested the sensor and the issue seems to be a short somewhere in the wiring because I get a reading when I'm testing right at the sensor but not when I'm testing at the module. Anyone have any suggestions on how to repair?

    The speedometer on my 2002 ram 1500 3.6L isn’t working after having the engine resurfaced, and the ABS and Brake light is on (they were on before the engine problems).
    I’m hoping it’s just the sensor that needs to be replaced, because your video makes it look really easy.

    Just replaced mine on a 2006 ram 1500. Before I replaced it, the brake and abs light would come on usually after about 10 minutes of driving. Also the speedometer was about 6mph slow and the cruise control wouldn't set. I haven't tried driving the truck yet (I've got other stuff taken apart on it too) but now when I start the truck the brake and abs light come on immediately. Do I need to drive the truck a bit to recognize the new speed sensor and reset the lights? Almost seems like it's worse after replacing it.

    Does it matter which way the harness is plugged into the speed sensor. It’s a round connection that allows it to be plugged in either way

  • @matt98eclipse

    Just did exactly everything you said in video. With key ignition on and probing rear axle connector I shouldn’t be getting any voltage on both left or right side of plug. Left side I get zero. Right side of plug in getting 4.7 volts!! What exactly does this mean if I’m getting volts on one wire on plug with key turned on? Thank you for the awesome video.

      Im doing mine now. I dont think the sensor in my 02 ram is same as one in vid. Looks like it. But when u spin wheels it produces dc voltage instead of ac. And it has a 2.5 volt steady reading with key on. Couple more videos and ... Its called a variable reluctance sensor. Manufacturers of certain vehicles often used diff sensors that varied by trim types etc.

    I just recently bought another rear end for my 1990 ramcharger bcuz it’s making grinding noises. So I found another diff at a local scrapyard but it “Does Not” have a hole for the sensor on-top of the differential like the rear end that’s on my truck now. My question is will my truck still function properly if I do this swap.
    Honestly I don’t know if that sensor on top is a abs or vss sensor.
    Note: I do not have a abs light on my dash

    • @4DIYers
      @4DIYers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      With no sensor, you'll have no rear abs. Everything else will function as it should assuming you have the correct gear ratio, but you'll no longer have abs brakes, meaning they'll just lock up instead of pulsing.

    I'm having a intermittent problem with the speedometer not functioning. ABS and brake warning lights function properly. Tested the resistance between pin 1 & 8 and received a steady 179. To me it does not appear to be a faulty wheel speed sensor. Anything else I can check?

    • @4DIYers
      @4DIYers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If it's intermittent, you maybe catching it when it's working or there could be debris built up on the sensor as it's magnetic. Simply remove it and clean, then reinstall.

    2007 Dodge 3500, I tried to test the sensor with an ohmmeter on 3 different new sensors from 3 different stores and there
    was no reading on the meter. The sensor for the 2007 dodge 3500, Dorman
    970-280 looks like the one you replaced. Any ideas?

      Same scenario with my 2005 dodge Dakota 3.7l 4wd. Was hoping the rear diff abs sensor was the culprit because I didn’t get a reading during the ohm test on the sensor so I got another one from autozone. Right out of the box no reading just said 1 on multimeter. If I touched the probes together it went to 00 like the multimeter is working. Ask autozone for another new one nothing happened multimeter showed 1. Went to oreillys asked if they had one I could measure and use their multimeter and it showed 1. Tried all ohm settings every time nothing. Sensor was in the same location, same wiring connector, bolt bracket and looked identical. Is it possible that three new sensors from parts stores are faulty?

    • @DMP77
      @DMP77 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stevobrand I put a new sensor in and have not had a light yet. Not sure why there were no readings on the meter either.

      I tried everything on my 97 dodge 3500 with the nv4500 5 speed. I lost 5th gear and took the tailshaft cover off and my speedo drive gear was chewed up. Replaced all needed parts and it worked fine for a few months, now the speedo is about 20mph off and will jump around after driving about 30 miles down the road. Idk what the cause is, but just letting u know that it could be internal as to why your speedo isn't working
