I really don't understand why Terrance Howard thought he should get as much as RDJ in that movie... He's in it for a significantly smaller amount of time lol
I study quantum physics and I can say that Terrence Howard is 100% correct. So long as you overlook the parts he’s wrong about, he is pretty much right about everything.
Physics was my first choice but I’m too dumb for that now I study biology and even I can effectively say that he is correct except for the parts that he’s not.
When the movie was still fairly new, I used to roll my eyes at people who were like "Idiocracy is a documentary." It's genuinely surreal.

I always wondered what the hell happened to this guy. Amazing talent, so why did he star in so few movies over the years? Well now I know. He's insane even by Hollywood standards, and that's special!
Multiplication is literally just a quick and fancy way of counting the sum of a number.. 1*1 is one because by itself it sums up to one. 256*1 is 256 because by itself it sums up to 256. How could someone argue with that logic lol
When i was in first grade, we were doing math and i had a “eureka moment”, where i thought i had come up with a new easy shortcut for doing subtraction. The teacher didn’t correct me, but instead had me test it until i figured out it was wrong on my own, and then went over the proper way with me. I think this guy could’ve used an experience like that.

This man went out of his way to write a paper proving that he cannot fathom the difference between addition and multiplication. I've never seen someone take the time to write a four page paper to intentionally discredit themselves. If you gave him the Darwin award he'd probably brag about it.
He brags about his work being awarded 86 patents, as if it's same as 'receiving an award', even though you can patent almost anything, if you pay the fee. People can and have patented perpetual motion machines.
As nonsensical as the whole thing is, i think he basically just did the equivalent of (a x b = the actual multiplication + a) like in that system 1x1 is 2, 1x2 is 3 2x1 is 4. from my understanding you basically just shift everything by 1 following what the correct operation would be. he also did admit to not understanding how subtraction works, and may have shown that he may have deficits in theory of mind with the apple example if that is truly his way of thinking. It's pretty likely from what i've read about the man that he has a few mental issues that he should probably be treating.

As I computer scientist, I’d personally think it’d be pretty wild if 0 didn’t exist. That’s like half of my material down the toilet in terms of binary
Yknow... technically zero actually doesnt exist. We treat it like how we treat infinity. It's much closer to a concept and visualize it with the placeholder "0" like how we have the symbol for infinity. You can't divide by zero either. Although not everyone agrees, zero is also often not included in the set of all natural numbers. If to exist is to be something and if zero is not something, then zero must not exist. However, zero in the way we use actually is something because it represents the concept of zero.
@@joobin814 yes 0 is not included in the set of natural numbers but what does that have to do with anything? these "sets" are just things we've made up. The set of whole numbers includes 0 but excludes negative numbers, that doesn't mean negative numbers are "concepts". zero, Negative numbers, irrational numbers, imaginary numbers, none of these things are "placeholders" or "abstractions", they are very real tangible quantities that are just not very useful for the common everyday man, they are useful in particular areas of engineering or science, as an example, imaginary numbers are extensively used in frequency domain analysis in signal processing.
@@joobin814 you are stupid. 0-9 is the numbers that we use. That makes 10 numbers. If you were trying to say money. Then it is off by one from our 0-9 numerical system. Soooo. Maybe go back to school
Zero doesn’t exist. In fact, naming nothing is nonsense. What we call zero is really “neutral,” because our number system runs on plus-minus axis and numbers represent the material world and zero is the literal opposite of that. You have to realize that 2+2=5 can’t be false because it’s technically an incomplete statement. 2x+2x=5x is false. Implied in the equation is a representation of the material world; numbers are actually adjectives and the X is a noun in the expression. “OX” - zero X - is literal nonsense. Zero doesn’t exist under its own definition because you have to conjure an X to show that there is no X. Literal nonsense. We should call what we call zero “neutral.”
I’m now of the mindset that Terrence was really bad at math as a child and is now on a quest prove his teachers wrong. Like, “1 x 1 does equal 2! I’ll prove it!”
He claims he dropped out of college because him and a professor disagreed about 1x1. Who knows if he's telling the truth or not but it's hilarious to imagine.

As an IB student, I probably could’ve benefited from the idea of creating my own mathematical formulas and concepts to cover up the fact I just can’t fucking read
For anyone interested in his paper and how he tries to prove 1x1=2 without seemingly arriving at a contradiction(ignoring his talk about the multiverse and aliens). The basic premise is he redefines multiplication of two positive natural numbers AxB as "adding A to itself B times" which would generally be correct, if you have 3 baskets of 2 apples in each you would be correct to say you "add 2 to itself 3 times" as in 2+2+2=6. His problem arises when he starts thinking of the same idea for 1x1 "adding 1 to itself 1 times". Perhaps he confuses the definition of "itself" in his own sentence, when we added 2 to "itself" 3 times we started with the first 2 added the second and then the third, when he tries to do the same with 1x1 he start with the first 1 and then mistakenly adds another 1 because otherwise he would be left with a "1+" with nothing to add after the "+" thus getting to his wanted 1x1="adding 1 to itself 1 time"=1+1=2. At this point multiplication loses its original definition and the rest his paper is written with the use of the new multiplication he defines which he uses to "prove" many incorrect ideas which he then uses to contradict the idea that 1x1=1. For example he at some points uses this new multiplication to prove that 3=2 because 1+(1x1) would be equal 1+"1 added to itself 1 time"=1+(1+1)=3=1+(1x1)=1+1=2 hence 3=2. I didn't bother to go much deeper than that after understanding where his logic fell which was right after the introduction paragraph.

They went from talking about basketball games with me to shouting about how my iPhones calculator was wrong because their math had to be correct. Their version was that if you carried the 2 of any problem over - there was the answer. This obviously wrong idea is so strongly defended past the point of ego… it is delusion. I feel deeply sorry for Terry and the effects he experiences from a traumatic life. I would also like to state this is another perspective to be offered - not a diagnosis or conclusion.
This is what happens when all your friends are with you for the money to the point of being surrounded of yes-men, probably lost his grip on reality and people around him go out of their way to make him feel special

It also fails to maintain very large integer or floating-point values and complex numbers. Fortunately these cases mostly affect mathematics nerds rather than everyday laypersons' usage.

Which makes sense. Ever tried to communication with 0? Needs 1x1. To make two. So the logic in that light does add up.
From his examples on the paper, it seems like he's just treating multiplication as though it's addition when it comes to a 1. He wrote "therefore 1×2=3, 1×3=4 (etc)" all the way up to 18. I wonder if he does the same with 2 (as in 2×3=5). So far it seems like he just forgot addition exists lol
Maybe he just read up on some group theory and decided to adopt multiplicative notation instead of additive? Just to be clear, it still makes no sense.
Zero don’t exist, nothing can’t exist so zero has to have value which would equal 1. In Order to get nothing, something must be acting upon it. You can’t give someone something zero times and ask if they have anything, or have something zero times. 0x1=1 0x2=2 1x2=3 so 2x3=8 because you have 2 and acquired it an additional 3 more times on top of what u have already. 👍🏽
The first thing I learned about multiplication was that you essentially add the first number to itself a number of times equal to the second number 2×3 is 2+2+2 That made 1×1 really simple to understand.
If Terrance believes this is true, he should prove it by giving me One million dollars. If he’s right, it’s still his, and it’s like he’s just transferring it from his left to his right hand, and everybody believes him. If I’m right, I get one million dollars. It’s a win-win.
If that’s all he has got to do just one time, why would it need to be a million dollars, to prove his point he could just give you a dollar and as you walk off he could say in a loud voice “I just gave you $1, and because you took it I now have proven my billion dollar theory to be true, how ironic is that?”
He's the poster child for the Krueger-Dunning effect. He hasn't published anything in professional journals that have borne fruit, but insists through social media that he's a fricken genius.
The best part of his 0 stuff is that zero is literally a *required concept* for higher mathematics. If you really *forced* him to get into it with math and he were capable of going that far he would very likely start using *another* term to represent 0, and maintain his position on 'zero', meaning it likely comes down to a semantics/definitions problem, despite the fact he's still crazy
Right. He thinks zero "exists" when it's merely a descriptor saying something has a property of none. Done. His entire existence and "work" in this field is debunked.
Exactly, he's arguing semantics. In his apple example, he is just using a totally different definition of "have" than everyone else on the planet. What he seems to be saying essentially is that the number of things that exist is not zero.
Exactly. And even in real life having zero of something is possible, you can't just say zero doesn't exist and be like "ah yes, I have all the money in the world" because that's not helping anyone.. you NEED the term zero to describe what you do not have
the mistake he's making here (and the mistake a lot of pseudomathematicians who spew tripe like this in general are making) is literally not understanding what mathematics is. People like him think math has to be some kind of perfect fundamental representation of the "real" world, when really this is not what math has been about for over 500 years now, and essentially anything that can be rigorously defined in formal logic without contradicting itself is fair game in pure math, it doesn't have to have *anything* to do with "our" world, that's what physics is for. *Maybe* zero doesn't actually jive with how the physical universe works (although imo we probably don't actually know enough about physics currently to even say that for certain), but that's completely irrelevant to whether or not it is a valid mathematical concept, because math and physics are *two different things*
there's also him saying 0 isn't real and whatever he goes on about geometry and hydrogen, but actually, given how math connects everything, maybe he made a big new system (with wayy too many contradictions and 0 applicability) and extended from there, imagine if he put all the effort into something not dumb

Okay, in terms of actual math, the little "Terryology" system of logic is pretty fun. His weird, inconsistent logic does leave enough clues to have a basic idsa of what the structure of this thing looks like. First thing's first, in his paper he admits that addition and multiplication are associative and commutative. However, he uses addition and multiplication kinda interchangably, so instead of a ring-like structure, it seems like there's only one operator. By his own admission, there's also no additive identity, and there's no multiplicative identity (which means there's no multiplicative or additive inverse, so his proof was inconsistent for trying to include subtraction anyways). So we have this associative, commutative, group-like structure (with what I'll call the Terry operator) with no identity element (and thus no inverse elements). Then there's the part where the square root function is closed within the set of elements of the Terry (Not really a group), so the fact that he refuses to give irrational answers shows me that the thing is at most countably infinite (And I doubt it's a finite set), so we have a structure called a countably infinite commutative semigroupoid. Since we're dealing with a semigroupoid which lacks totality, the things that he is using are not numbers. The Terry operator actually gives a set of morphisms from one element to another (and vice versa) since the semigroupoid is commutative. Terry has got to be the person who has spent the most time out of anyone in history studying countably infite commutative semigroupoids, and he still has no idea what he's talking about.
Thank goodness Terry didn't venture out into an uncountably infinite semigroipoid, then there would really be no hope for us mere mortals to comprehend Terryology.
He should already know this, on account of him already owning all of my algebra books. I wonder with slightly less delusion how much he'd enjoy being an algebraist.

"Sure, when you're in kindergarten and hear 1×1= 1, it may be confusing at first, cause you're used to 1+1= 2, but a child's brain is able to make the connection after like 5 minutes." Generally because the person explaining the concept then goes on to point out that 2 x 1 = 2 and 3 x 1 = 3, etc, such that it becomes clear to the child that multiplying any number by 1 does not actually change that original number (further reinforced by it working the same way when you do the inverse, and divide things by 1). Terrance doesn't seem to have ever grokked that multiplication and division don't intrinsically change the original sum, while addition and subtraction always will (unless you add or subtract 0), and things just spiraled into lunacy from there.

It is a reality that there can be ZERO of something or 1 or 863. ALL NATURAL numbers and ZERO represent real live concepts. But there ARE numbers who don't..and that are NEGATIVE numbers...who only make sense as an abstract concept..but that doesn't make them wrong...or a scam..they still follow mathematical logic that is independent from context. And one thing can be said...if someone wants to ChANGE reality he can't deny it first.
I always felt that one of his best roles was in Big Momma's House. I am not even kidding, it was like he stepped out of a thriller movie and he was absolutely terrifying, even critics that hated the movie praised his performance. Turns out he was hiding in plain sight.
Also Terrence is wrong about his little bubble structure never being discovered before. It's a section of a tesselation of dodecahedrons. It can't exist (with straight lines) in Euclidean geometry. Weirdly enough, the structure _does_ work in _hyperbolic_ geometry, where it was discovered. I don't think Terry could have thought of that with his bendy bubble structure however, given he's shown us he doesn't know how multiplication works. The shape looks cool, though. I want one.
Also calculating and finding a new result that twice as more as old result doesn't increase the real world outcome. I think that's his reasoning on increasing efficiency in stuff.
Today I learned that Terrance Howard literally spent 7+ years creating an entire philosophy and alternate human history in order to avoid having to admit that he doesn’t understand basic multiplication and mathematical principles.
Simple to prove 1 X 1 = 1, ha, ha :) 3 X 3 is 9 because you have three 3s (Hence the times), so with 1 X 1 you have one 1, same with 1 X 1 X 1 and so on like that :) And 0 is always going to be zero if you times it by other numbers, because it is nothing :) 2 X 2 is 4 which is not the same method as saying 2 + 2 equals 4 even though they both give you the same answer :)
My husband has a friend like this. I had brain melting conversation with him about how the sun is about the same size as earth, “just like moon”. He also doesnt believe light to be made of particles, because “photons are completely manmade concept”. Cool dude, just slightly.. out there, and always entertaining.
The fact that he wants 1x1 to be 2 just shows idiocy. If you change the "times" of an equation to "groups of" would he understand how 1x1 cannot possibly be 2? 1 group of 1 object is 1 object. 2 groups of 2 things is 4 things. A 4 year old can understand this. Hell even a 2 year old.
A better visualization of multiplication is to use the actual word "times" 1x1 = One, one time 1x2 = One, two times 2x2 = Two, two times Maybe he needed a better pre-K teacher. Lol
What I want to know, is does he think 1×2 is 2? Because if he acknowledges 1×2 = 2, then I guess 1×1=1×2. If he claims 1×2 is more than 2, then...well, it will just leave me to the number he claims it is, and asking if 1 times that number equals that number. Because now we have a big problem lol.
The problem, it seems, is he tries to use pseudo-intellectual philosophical narratives. One times one is 2 because everything is connected. Then why isn't it 1*1=55 or even question the validity of any number. He's just of below average intelligence and idolized by others, making him think he is in the higher echelons of abstract thinking. To be fair, I like his writing style but the lack of references immediately shows a lack of academic experience. It would not be accepted in any scientific journal because he doesn't even adhere to core scientific principles (validity, reliability, transparency).
This dude looked like he was speed-reading college books and tried to make an essay out of the words he vaguely remembered even though it doesn’t make sense. He’s clearly using those jargons to make himself sound smart. An average chemistry, biology, or engineering student would be able to decimate him for making a ridiculous speech using funny science words.
I am a pretty average student I am very confident I can disprove his ideas. My main problem is the amount of work you have to do with math and science makes me feel uncomfortable. He has spent no time thinking of creating a legitmate system that means that physics, chemistry, and computer science would all crumble if we got stuck with 1 x 1 = 2.
Kinda like how Vox Day did want to prove he is "smart and intellectual" by creating a new terms like "scientody", "scientistic" "scientodofic" instead of already established and easy to spell "scientific method" and he only used that new term just litteraly "Nah you're stupid, i'm genius"

As I computer scientist, I’d personally think it’d be pretty wild if 0 didn’t exist.
That’s like half of my material down the toilet in terms of binary
We invented Binary, based on the assumption of the existence of zero. Computing is a microcosm. The Universe cares not for computing.
Yknow... technically zero actually doesnt exist.

World class is a bit of a stretch
As someone that had witnessed a schizophrenic break, watching someone devolve into a false reality… This is eerily similar.
I was just about to say this guy has schizo written all over him. A person I am relatively close to was diagnosed recently, and he speaks so much like her, 100% convinced of his own delusion and actually deeply concerned for anyone who doesn't see their point of view, that I got chills. The person I know is hyper religious on the other hand, and goes around trying to convince other Christians that they are not Christian unless they believe exactly what she says, in exactly the way she says it, but quick conversation pokes giant holes in all her theorems, which leaves her insisting that you don't get it because your poor, unfortunate soul is too used to associating with the devil so now your soul is in jeopardy, simply because you disagree. 💀 Refuses to take her meds as well.
That’s what I was thinking. This doesn’t just sound like a case of ego, thinking that he’s smarter than everyone, or having too much money to think like an actual person. He sounds legitimately delusional. Guy needs help and it’s obvious.
Not to detract from the severity of the situation... but if you'll indulge my pedantry: Your iPhone's calculator _is_ sometimes wrong but not how your friend describes. It loses precision with rational numbers a.k.a. fractions and ratios. *This can affect everyday calculations!* It creates rounding errors which get worse if you use the results for further calculations.
It also fails to maintain very large integer or floating-point values and complex numbers. Fortunately these cases mostly affect mathematics nerds rather than everyday laypersons' usage.

Now I'm active with a lover every day. And others too. We're cool with it. Maybe they got a point. Maybe he's not talking about just numbers alone. Maybe, just maybe he's talking about people and how we all affect each other indirectly even if we don't see it when people turn a blind eye.
I don't blame him, almost everything after learning Multiplication requires it and not Addition
Maybe he sees the the world at angle and reads the multiplication symbol x as a sideways plus +
Don't try to deconstruct shit. At the end of the day it's still shit.

0 = nothing/everything
Turns out he just had his head tilted the whole time so the ‘x’ looked like a ‘+’. Understandable mistake.
there's also him saying 0 isn't real and whatever he goes on about geometry and hydrogen, but actually, given how math connects everything, maybe he made a big new system (with wayy too many contradictions and 0 applicability) and extended from there, imagine if he put all the effort into something not dumb
I am pretty sure he once heard multiplication is "repetitive addition" and thought so ohh 1 times 1 is 2

Someone should tell him we can Write a number down that can represent more atoms in the entire universe and just hope he doesn't just say 'ya I know, 1'

Terry has got to be the person who has spent the most time out of anyone in history studying countably infite commutative semigroupoids, and he still has no idea what he's talking about.
super appreciate this theory breakdown
I love this comment.
Thank goodness Terry didn't venture out into an uncountably infinite semigroipoid, then there would really be no hope for us mere mortals to comprehend Terryology.

Yeah, this guy is very strange... I've recently heard about the whole Terrance rabbit hole. Sure, when you're in kindergarten and hear 1×1= 1, it may be confusing at first, cause you're used to 1+1= 2, but a child's brain is able to make the connection after like 5 minutes. For this dude, that connection just never happened.
That connection happened in another universe though.
The paper at 11:32 makes me feel like he doesn't know the difference between + and ×, and actively refuses to learn how × actually works.
@@Kromiball Maybe he just goes cross-eyed whenever he sees a ×, and it somehow just malforms into a + in his eyes.

"Sure, when you're in kindergarten and hear 1×1= 1, it may be confusing at first, cause you're used to 1+1= 2, but a child's brain is able to make the connection after like 5 minutes."
Generally because the person explaining the concept then goes on to point out that 2 x 1 = 2 and 3 x 1 = 3, etc, such that it becomes clear to the child that multiplying any number by 1 does not actually change that original number (further reinforced by it working the same way when you do the inverse, and divide things by 1). Terrance doesn't seem to have ever grokked that multiplication and division don't intrinsically change the original sum, while addition and subtraction always will (unless you add or subtract 0), and things just spiraled into lunacy from there.

I'd agree that the rise of money had a lot to do with the rise of advanced math...even If I can't tell if the zero was not first some thought experiment before it was generally used because of enhanced trading activities.
But 0 is as real as 1 or 4801. You can have 0 of something (may it be money or cattle or friends, or
likes or reasons to do something or sexual experiences, or times you visited Rome...or more. So all numbers including Zero DO represent real concepts.
So 0 IS a real number and math IS correct..while his view on math is..well how do I put it nicely...very wrong.

No matter what reality you live in or what cultural context you have. 0 = 0 and 1x1 is NOT 2 but 1.
As soon as you count things you have more than one.
It has nothing to do if you are a human or if there is an observer or not. Those are NOT human concepts..they are descriptions of reality.

2 X 2 is 4 which is not the same method as saying 2 + 2 equals 4 even though they both give you the same answer :)
My husband has a friend like this. I had brain melting conversation with him about how the sun is about the same size as earth, “just like moon”. He also doesnt believe light to be made of particles, because “photons are completely manmade concept”. Cool dude, just slightly.. out there, and always entertaining.
"It will remove plastic from the ocean" - Uganda is landlocked, lol.
Hell even a 2 year old.
he thinks decimals don't exist, evidently. he just feels bad for 2 essentially
A better visualization of multiplication is to use the actual word "times"
1x1 = One, one time
1x2 = One, two times
2x2 = Two, two times
Maybe he needed a better pre-K teacher.
It would not be accepted in any scientific journal because he doesn't even adhere to core scientific principles (validity, reliability, transparency).
no terrence is right because one group and one thing are 2 things, a group and a thing. Just like 2 groups and 2 things equal 4 things.
This dude looked like he was speed-reading college books and tried to make an essay out of the words he vaguely remembered even though it doesn’t make sense. He’s clearly using those jargons to make himself sound smart. An average chemistry, biology, or engineering student would be able to decimate him for making a ridiculous speech using funny science words.
a 12 years old would decimate him lol
terryology is more then the simple minded can handle, you'll see in a 100 years
I am a pretty average student I am very confident I can disprove his ideas. My main problem is the amount of work you have to do with math and science makes me feel uncomfortable. He has spent no time thinking of creating a legitmate system that means that physics, chemistry, and computer science would all crumble if we got stuck with 1 x 1 = 2.
Bruh got sqaure roots confused with APs
Kinda like how Vox Day did want to prove he is "smart and intellectual" by creating a new terms like "scientody", "scientistic" "scientodofic" instead of already established and easy to spell "scientific method" and he only used that new term just litteraly "Nah you're stupid, i'm genius"
