  • Harvest time in Illinois is haze you see as the train heads towards to sunset is from a combine pulling up corn from a farm next to the tracks. This train had just passed thru downtown Chana at mile post 92.4 on the Aurora Subdivision on its way to Seattle.

114 cars seems like a short train

Is only one of the five locomotives running? I would assume if so it has the power to pull this length of train.

It's possible one locomotive could pull the train, but certainly not this fast. I'm thinking that most, if not all, of the six engines were running. The horsepower is needed to keep the train running at speed and also for the dynamic braking power that can be used to slow the train without too much use of the brake shoes. The terrain may look flat and perhaps it is, but there may be subtle ups and downs that require judicious use of dynamic braking in order to control the train.
