Tyler Rogers Slider Gets Strikeout on Ball That Hits Batter | SF Giants vs San Diego Padres

- Tyler Rogers is known for his unconventional delivery. His "flying saucer" or "UFO" rising slider is as deceptive a pitch as a batter will ever see in the Major Leagues. Watch as Tyler picks up a strikeout on one of the wackiest instances of his slider fooling an opponent.

Can we all just hold hands for a moment and appreciate the anguish of striking outing on an 0-2 count with a swing-and-miss that is so off the plate that it LITERALLY hits you in the face ☠️
Watch the video. Foul tip. He should have seen another pitch.
🤣🤣🤣
You don't swing on 0-2 😂
@@The_Vaporizer um.. What?
@@The_Vaporizerhuh?
Angle Hernandez: "Home run. Pitcher's out."
Lol
😂
Checks out
Angle lol omfg
That's a paper, scissor, rock play for the umpire, walk, strikeout or Ejection lol
next level ankle breaking 😭😭
😂
He's still on level zero working on pitch control. Next level: mental retardation
The batter was wondering why he couldn’t make contact on a pitch that’s around the inner third… then it hit him.
lmao
Holy shit I scrolled away right as I read this and had to come back, you had me good with this one hahaha
Now THAT is what we call a rough at bat bhahahahahahah😂
Hope Tyler Rogers has a great season! I can get worried sometimes when he pitches.
He is like Aroldis Chapman but throws 30mph slower
They kept saying he CLEARLY fouled it off but I don’t see anything definitive to support that perspective.
Fouled it by the fact it hit his shoulder 😂. I did not see it hit the bat, broadcasters were out to lunch
It was clear that it hit the bat first. Watch it again...and again...until you see it. I heard it hit the bat and then helmet live before I even saw the replay.
@@seabeejg Oh you’re right. It barely touched it. Tough
He clearly didn't foul it off. It hit his arm and bounced into his face
@@Ty-fb5uq It hit the bat, then arm, then face/helmet. It was a foul ball. The ball should have been called dead and as a foul since the ball hit the arm after the foul. Re-watch it. You can even hear it.
He 100% did clip the ball with his bat... BARELY, like the smallest clip you could possibly clip. go to 0:24 and slow it down to .25x. you will see the spin of the ball change directions(starts going up) just for a moment before it hits his shoulder. And interestingly enough, if you do the same speed at 0:39 this didn't hit him in the face like I thought. It just bounces off his shoulder straight up and hits hit helmet. This explains why he was not dazed, just confused
@jotun1022 This is exactly what I did and posted MY video of it on Facebook. But these morons keep arguing with me. They are all idiots. YES, I am pissed off!
Talk about insult to injury!
"hit the bat" 😂 😂
In super slow mo (0.25 speed) it does appear to graze the bat by the slighest of possible margins. Doesn't change the fact he basically about missed a ball that hit him dead center.
@@user-cz7bu5qk8w I think the OP might be saying "hit the bat" as an ironic statement since he swung at it. Which would mean he hit the ball, not that the ball hit the bat. Hitting the bat is usually reserved for when you are getting out of the way of the ball, and do not swing, and it incidentally "hit the bat".
@@nathanc8478no. Just NO.
@@user-cz7bu5qk8w YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! I have proven that on Facebook! Tell all these crybabies to shut the hell up!
@@nathanc8478 That's the dumbest comment I've ever heard anyone make!
Giants fan here. That play should 100 percent be reviewable. Rough AB
reviewable strike calls would make the game boring as hell
@@boxbox1836baseball boring ? No way .
Reviewable? He swung at it. Byeeeeee
It was a swing and miss. It hit his shoulder, not the bat.
@@The_ex-atheistwk6tvslow motion from behind the pitcher clearly shows contact with the bat changes the spin on the ball AND direction.
With some pitching/pitchers evolving pretty much every 5-10 years, I'd say we'll start having 102+ MPH SCFUKER24E (Slider change up, Forkball, underhand , Knuckle ball, Ephus, Rising 2 and 4 seam pitches) all in the same grip at the same time.
Already a fun season.
He wiffed completely the bounce was off his arm into his face.
Watch the final replay towards the end of the video. Ball grazes the bat, then hits his arm and face.
@@ismoketrack no didnt see it
@@theb3654try 0.5x speed. It's probably the smallest graze possible so that doesn't help lol. But there's definitely a slight change to the path of the ball.
Boy got the senses knocked out of him and forgot he swung... 🤣
0:04 Do you guys hear a foul tip? I hear the little taps, but I swear those are just the ball hitting him and his helmet
I think he just swung and missed
Play in slow motion it never hits his bat
He didn’t tip it it never changed direction and either did the ball rotation
He didnt make contact
@@victorsandoval9075play it at .25 speed.
NOPE, you hear it hit the bat first.
0.25x it didn’t hit his bat just his shoulder and face
It just barely clipped his bat. There was contact, albeit not much.
Glasses? Have you tried em?
It never touched the bat he swung at a pitch that hit him so it's a strike. That announcer is making shit up that don't exist so the batter looks less goofy. He literally swung at a pitch that hit him in the head. Props to the pitcher
You aren’t watching the first replay closely enough.
Dude it hit the bat, first replay shows the deflection. It's slight, but it's there. Secondly, he swung, strike 3 he's out.
I didn't see it the first five times I watched it. But the ball definitely grazes the bat. You can see the spin accelerate every so slightly as the ball crosses the plane of the bat. Watch it at .5x speed. It's subtle as hell, but he touched it.
It hit the bat for sure. The at bat should have continued, but no replay on those
he's lucky the ball went up and not into his freaking face. jeez
Saw somebody foul the ball into their nose when I was younger… horrifying to watch
He hit that ball three times! One with the bat, one with the shoulder, and one with the forehead.
I'd love to see Close Call Sports do a video on this.
Imagine getting hit in the head and being called out on the same pitch. OOF!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'd actually watch and respect y'all's game more if you had more stuff like this.
How did this clearly hit the bat? Ball hits directly on his deltoid/shoulder then bounces up to his forehead
Well he hit that ball, only probable is that you can see it on the replay, very clear.
@@MrElpajita These idiots don't realize that some of use can edit the video to slow it enough to actually see the rotation of the ball change when it hit the bat!
A foul tip is actually when the ball is hit sharply and directly to the catcher's mitt and caught.
That ball hit him like 5 times 💀 brutal lol
and the bat once. Yes, it did hit the bat.
Don’t know why, but I could always see the ball off a sidearm pitcher’s hand than conventional. The rising effect makes the spin more obvious to me.
He keeps talking about how it was clearly a fouled tip.. but that was quite possibly the *least* clear foul tip I've ever seen. It took multiple watches and slowing it down to 0.25x speed to see it.
Them repeatedly calling this a rough at bat is quite hilarious.
Pauly was in denial that he swung at that shit and hit him.
Damn you know his teammates will be on him all year about that
It’s astounding that so many people can watch the exact same video and reach such opposing conclusions. Ball elevated slightly from contact with the bat before contact with the shoulder. Umpire kicked it, but understandable in this context.
You are correct. I made video proof of it on Facebook.
Oh my lanta! Worst foul tip (or strikeout according to the umps) I ever saw in my life! Right in the face!
Pitcher: Look im sorry im about to humiliate you
Batter: what do you mean?
Pitcher: i will strike you out and hit you at the same time😈
Batter:🧢
A few moment later…..
Batter:🥴
that pitch was wild
That is a nasty pitch, 😂.
The only reason ANY PLAY would be “non reviewable” is so umps can control the game to make sure the Vegas odds are met. Just like any professional sport. The betting world has about 40 betting apps that generate revenue for all sports. Money rules the outcome.
Getting rid of Tyler Rodgers was one of the best things the padres did. Have fun stressing every time he steps on the mound.
Keep your eye on the ball they used to tell us
Hits the bat, my eyes. I could be an ump
What’s amazing about this is that Gausman called it 3 years ago when he was on the team.
Even if there were no strikes I would of just called the guy out on this pitch. hehe
I would believe it’s not reviewable because of how many foul tips happen a game compared to others
Of course one of the hardest calls for an hp umpire to make isn’t reviewable, even though technology from other sorts like cricket already exist making it ax simple thing to check.
Relatively rare, straight forward did-or-didn't happen, incredibly hard to call in real time. But still unreviewable. Thanks, MLB.
That was so close to being a disaster. It looks like it got deflected mostly into the inner edge of his helmet. An inch more inside and that would have been squarely in his face.
It’s the submarine pitch guy
Imagine watching it run right at you and swinging anyway
Why is this a big argument? If a batter leans into a pitch off the plate to get hit then he can be denied the HBP. If you lean in so hard that you start taking a full swing…..
Lol. Most people get out of the way when a ball coming to their face
You need to use a different term to describe the pitch, because a "rising slider" is an impossibility. That's like saying you have a hot piece of ice.
I see 2 deflections before it hits Pauley in the face. Once off the bat and once off his bicep. You can even hear it glance of the bat before hitting him.
Ball only hit his arm. Slow it down and you can see the ball only change direction once.
@@PabloGonzalez-hv3tdalready did that. You’re wrong. Spin changes and direction from tipping the bat.
@@craigjorgensen5895 At 0.25x you can see it only changes direction as it runs up his sleeve.
Nasty!!!!!
Never fouled it off
The announcer totally off his rocker. I’ve watched the replay a dozen times at less than a quarter speed and the spin of the ball never changes going past the bat. It may have touched the bat but it clearly isn’t clearly.
What are these announcer’s going on about? Every replay I saw wasn’t close to the bat. It hits his bicep and then his face.
WTH is that pitch mann😤
That isn't a slider. That's just throwing diagonal up.
Hey yo Pauley!
Great movie
How is this pitching style legal?
Even Gene Garber couldn't do that to a batter.
That pitcher has to be using some type of stickem that ball never stopped spinning after tipping the bat the batters arm then face still spinnjng fast as hell the whole way down even when it hits the ground its spinning like a bowlingball
Great pitch!
Didn’t clearly hit the bat imo but the announcers saw it differently i guess
The annoucers need to understand what a foul tip is and that was not one.
that ball never hit the bat, he swung at a terrible pitch and paid the price....yooooou're out!!!
It didn't "clearly" hit the bat. But it wouldn't matter since he swung. Who's doing commentary Mike Goldberg?
It is stuff like this why I quit watching most sports. Even if the dude didn't swing the ball would have hit him. It is such a stupid rule that if you make contact with a ball that is going to hit you it counts as a strike...
The fact that the ball was going straight at his arm outside of the batter's box and it hits him regardless of him swinging should mean it's a walk.
If it’s that close then don’t swing at it?
Why in badeball does the empire always have to go and explain why he made his call to the team manager? It just slows down the game. Umpire makes a call and move on.
I think it did hit the bat, but by so very thin of contact that I couldn’t say conclusively that it did. There’s room for doubt. I watched the slow-mo at 1/4-speed and zoomed in 3.5x. It looked like the ball shifted ever so slightly from contacting the bat. It was very, very close. Just not sure either way.
There should be a rule that the pitcher can’t release the ball from below his belt. Otherwise, bring in the girl’s softball pitchers.
I did the same and you can see the spin of the ball change directions, I don't see a change in the path though
Was a ball outa hand
Wouldn't it be reviewable since they are not calling it a fowl tip? LMAO. If its not reviewable than he's not out.
He tipped it first. What a joke. “Non reviewable play” is a joke when it’s clear as day on camera.
It hit the bat and knocked it into his area had it missed the bat it would have hit him in the neck.
We’re only in the first month of the season and I can already tell the officiating hasn’t changed😮 Even with replay they BLOW the calls, EVERYTHING should be reviewable…….it really makes for an illegitimate season😂😂😂😂
That shit was hitting him regardless of swing. MLB has no integrity.
Just a missed call on a foul tip.
If its a foul tip why is it a strike out the catcher didn't catch the ball
lmao that pitch was going to nail him in the literal left shoulder yet he decided to take an absolute sword to that pitch yikes
🤪 L I T E R A L 🤪
Work on your vocabulary homework, kid.
slo-mo says that was a foul tip
If you slow down the video to .25 speed, it is clear the batter passed the "check swing" point before the ball hit his shoulder and then the bottom of his cap subsequently. However, I thought MLB banned submarine pitches years ago.
Nobody banned submarine pitches. Psssh.
Dork.
@@TheBatugan77 I think my Little League banned them years ago.
should be reviewable
AND he rolls his ankle
The fact they can make the right call with a easy fast review makes me not want to watch mlb anymore
That ball sailed right past that bat. No contact.
whys hes out wouldnt it be foul
They need to release his @$$ immediately.
Clearly hits the bat? I must be blind
cant feel my face
Me in MLB The Show
The ball never hit the bat. It hit his shoulder then face.
Why would you swing on that?????
It “clearly” didn’t hit the bat, if at all
The most embarrassing strikeout of all time.
That didnt touch the bat
He lucked out. Could’ve been a lot worse.
Wow that is horrible why would he swing for that Ball?.
Clearly did not hit the bat
Clearly didn't hit the Bat! Fools!
That's embarrassing.
Sooo you mean... We can't double check the imperfect human beings split second call with a mask on his face even though the call could dramatically change the outcome of the game? Seems legit.... L for the MLB rule book.
