My son takes many tantrums in a day. They're usually short but intense. I get anxiety taking him out. He's a very stubborn, difficult child. He's great when he's not upset, but when he is, it's over. Kicking, throwing himself on the floor, screaming bloody murder, sometimes over something really small. To all the Mums/Dads watching this video please take into account age when it comes to tantrums/behaviours. A child can be referred to a toddler typically from the age of 1 and Its completely scientifically normal for a child under the age of 2 to not be able to regulate their emotions and have tantrums that do need adult intervention/help/guidance. Every child is different and there are alot of factors that may contribute to each childs behaviour, development and progression. Environmental factors, Genetic factors, Cultural factors, Ethnicity factors etc. Also some factors that are out of your control like medical conditions. The list is long. Don’t jump to conclusions snd feel defeated when this lady says “Not typical”. I know she means well but like I said every child is different and there are so many other factors to consider and “Not Typical” does not mean you should be worried. I have a child who showed alot of these “Not Typical” behaviours she explained in this video and to me they are all completely normal behaviours for a child who is overstimulated and can’t regulate their emotions. This video can be very misleading to alot of parents.
Yeah, I thought there were a few points that weren't exactly accurate.. My son (2) has had two consecutive days of having one big massive tantrum. He has hand, foot and mouth though and isn't sleeping well as a result. So we think it's attributed to that as it's come out of nowhere. But I was concerned regardless, so I did a bit of research. I read that the self-regulating part of the brain that encompasses environmental awareness, fallout or repercussions - any sort of rationale or reasoning based on the situation - doesn't fire. So there's an actual observable difference in brain scans between adults and 2 year olds. All you can really do is make sure they're not hurting themselves and that you're there for them.

My mom always told me I had "tantrums" as a toddler -- which arose when I was unable to do something that I was trying to do like, say, climb onto an object but finding myself physically unable to do it. She’s always been kind of solitary, but I was kind of taking it to the extreme in the past two months where she will throw tantrums if I try to even play with her. I knew that her tantrums weren’t normal because a lot of times when you give her the thing that she wants she does not come down at all, and she just does not know how to calm herself down. It breaks my heart because I haven’t learned how to do that yet for myself either and I just want to help her so bad.
my child is 18 months, and his speech is very good. Alot better then other kids his age. But he still has alot of tantrums. He is always talking back, got attitude, and will on purpose do the opposite of what I ask. I dont know where all this attitude comes from. He is the youngest of 4 kids, he has 3 older sisters aged 12,11,and 10 years old so he is spoit and gets lots of attention. he is super bossy, likes to scream and cry when he doesnt get his way and hits. He is very clever for his age and has a big vocabulary for his age. arggg just so frustrating with his attitude and tantrums.
Same! I have a 3 year old son who is also the youngest, his brother and sisters are 13, 12 & 11. He is so bossy with them and is also such a mama's boy. He thinks he's a big kid like them but will cash out on his "baby of the house" card when he sees fit lol. He also screams and hits and has a lot of tantrums. My husband says he's just spoiled and has that Taurus personality lol
I’m still a teen myself but one of my best friends has a 4 year old sister who I’m concerned for. She has around 10 tantrums in A DAY. She hits, kicks, bites, scratches over the smallest things. Shes gone as far as breaking braces brackets, biting though skin, and trying to kill my friends and I. I’m over there a ton, does anyone have tips on how to deal with her?
@@eileenfuentes6975 No it's not. The video never defined what a tantrum actually is. It only talked about the frequency of tantrums. This assumes we all have the same definition for tantrum and know what she's talking about. I'm confused to. Of course my kid gets upset more than 10 times a month! But when do we reach tantrum level upset? What is a tantrum? Idk.
@0:20 my kids are like this… i don’t know why since my communication skills are exemplary, and i didn’t have trouble expressing myself as a kid. It’s so frustrating. Just say you’re hungry instead of having a meltdown…
I sometimes have tantrums in a day when I get mad at the teen nick tv channel for not working right and also that when my computer is not working right and when my mother makes things frustrating with changes when things get confusing I get upset about every wrong thing when I have to hit my legs not when I;m throwing kicking myself on the floor I only shake my hands and fists up and down and I also hit my knees and legs that's what I do that's what I do. this cannot happen to me do you know what my mother tell's me to do? breathe and calm down witch make my anger of vengence not strong enough to make my mother pay of make things frustrating and for what happened on 2013.

@Waynemomsince2017 oh wow. Thanks for the reply! Mine is very, very verbal. Like ahead of the curve. She's 2.5. But recently the meltdowns and "I do it" are really hard to deal with. It's to the point where she will cry and scream and want to undo whatever we just did so that she can do it herself... I'm wondering if that aspect of it is okay/typical...
@@Breyerluvr4eva I'm hoping it will get better my son has grown out of it but every child is unique and different. Wishing you all the best and stay calm and be patient as I once I did. My son is now 7 and he's just a ball of energy.
I am still confused with my son, he has frequent tantrums but they don’t last long. Although last night it was he was overtired. Can that be normal? It’s typically being overtired or not getting what he wants. He also hits but not all the time I thought this somewhat normal at 2-3 years old?
My little brother is 4 yrs old. His tantrums don’t last longer than 25 minutes but he’ll chase anyone around and try to hit them in the face or bite them where he can! My older brother literally has to hold him in place until he calms down. It usually happens from him not doing something he wants. My sister moved her desk chair, he wanted to us it but he was using another chair, when she redirected him back to his original chair he bit her and started this huge tantrum. He says sorry but starts it all over again. He also has a short attention span, and will go without eating or pee on himself just to continue watching TH-cam videos.
I have a 3 year old very well spoken but won’t talk when he has a tantrum. Some of his issues are noticeable/ he just doesn’t want something changed. He won’t try a food. He asked who’s turn it was to snuggle before bed and he didn’t get the right answer so it was screaming crying non stop
My son is yes to all those except stemming. He's on speech therapy but I've noticed something odd. Before he started therapy he rarely spoke mostly babble if that but he was very independent. He would always attempt to get what he wanted or if it was physically impossible he would ask by taking u to the kitchen or standing where he knows u hid the cookies. Now at 22 months old he very very very clingy. Sometimes refuses to feed himself. Yes his tantrums were intense before but know they're constant and at times for no reason. Instead of attempting to ask for what he wants he cries and acts hysterical even hitting. However he is starting to move past mindless babble and attempt words sometimes with success. His understanding was at a 9 month level when he was 18 months but I do feel he has improved in that area as well. Not sure what to do as he has become unruly. Right now I try 30 second time outs, doing my best to keep a schedule and attempting to empathise but he once he gets worked up he seems to have almost no ability to calm back down. Any advice it would be greatly appreciated???

My toddler doesn’t get violent but she does throw herself to the floor and has been crying a LOT more lately and I just can’t figure out what to do for her😭 cause she’s not been wanting to eat either, any advice?!!!! Need some!
Im so happy i found this because my 2 year old has been out of control and i showed my fiance this and shes just in denial about all of this what do i do ??
To furth expand on that she just thinks all of the hitting kicking he does is normal and also when you said 20 - 30 tantrums in a 30 day period my jaw dropped because my son has had that much in just this week
My son is 2 years old is aggressive only when he is in daycare. Per his teacher he hits without no reason to other kids. He just started with his ST. My son is on a waiting list for OT. Any advice.
My daughter seems to have uncontrollable tantrums when her Mum leaves the room/house. My daughter grew up during covid she's 20 months now so for basically the first 8 months of her life was just me and her Mother. My Girlfriend is a nurse so she works nights. My daughter seems to understand what work and out mean as she goes into an incredible tantrum. Hitting herself in the face, hitting me throwing herself on the floor. I'm worried to be honest. She has no problem in Nursery and will throw small tantrums throughout the day but as soon as her mother leaves. There's almost no comforting her. She also sleeps in our bed as currently we're living with my parents due to us saving for a house.
Me too 😩😩 my daughter is 3 goes to speech therapy which helps but her tantrums are horrible .. I am scared to think it’ll continue like this for more years I’m so exhausted 😩
Hi, what can be some possible reasons that a child is having a tantrums as extreme as you mentioned in your video, or for the reasons that you mentioned? Thank you
Thank you for this video, it helped me to confirm that my daughter's occasional tantrum is normal. My daughter does have some language delay because she is learning both German (in daycare) and English (at home) and that these intense tantrums will get better.
How would you solve a problem when a parent is struggling to communicate what her child wants. My niece is 22 months old with developmental speech delays. She will grunt and cry to get what she needs and wants, for example after being put down, she will cry to be picked up, or seeing mom pull out phone she will cry and grunt to play with phone, n mom feels sad to see her child frustrated not being able to express herself so she gives in immediately. Any great home speech therapy ideas for her child to be able to express herself n decrease her tantrums? She will not sign, she will get upset more when the ST tries to teach her sign

Our 4yr granddaughter has tantrums, hers are not regular but they do last anywhere from 10 mins to 30, sometimes more. It's never unprovoked. It's always at bedtime or if she loses a privilege. But.. when she does have days like this it seems to be several days in a row. Should we be concerned?
I have a 2 year old that has violent tantrums, hitting with objects and attempting to really harm his siblings. He can speak a little but his temper is short and he have cried for hours until I picked him up. I have a 10 month old as well and he copies his brother's tantrums as well. How can I fix this?
Hi! I’m sorry that sounds hard. As I said in the video, when a child has such extreme tantrums it can sometimes be a sign that something else is going on. If the child is also behind in speaking, then a developmental evaluation is a good idea.
Walkie Talkie Speech Therapy Inc. thank you. I will take care of this. My son is speaking and very well he is also learning spanish, which is the only thing that's a plus.
My child born 07/06/2017 whos mom had a stroke mar 21 2019 and has since shes been in an unconscious state, he throws frequent violent temper tantrums, kicks and hits others and sometimes tries self harm, gets mad easily over small things, very picky, seems to have separation anxiety, can't be away from dad very long if at all. do you think he needs help?
My 20 month old does every single thing listed in this video plus she recently started hurting animals. Ive been voicing concerns to her pediatrician about her behavior since she was about 1 year old but her pediatrician just keeps telling me its all normal. Its really discouraging and makes me feel like im just overreacting to normal behaviors.
Also, I sometimes think her tantrums are pain related... She does a lot of back arching, like to the point I think she's going to hurt herself... Is this possible, a pain related tantrum?
My 2 year old son has a tantrum on things as simple as me telling him come here mommy and they are so bad he keeps banging his head into walls or closets . His head keeps bruising and one time he cut the back of his head and needed several stitches . Doctor told me he will grow out of it and not to give it much meaning 🫠 crying my eyeballs out rn😊
Right everyone different because chimpanzee hurted just for 3 hours and Eddie is gonna hurt when he is 20 and it will stop hurting when he is 75 but Eddie thing hurted even more on Jan 10
What educational background, licensing, specialties this woman has to publicly give diagnosis to parents what’s normal and what’s not normal in child development ? Licensed medical doctors specialized in specific behavioral fields do that not just TH-cam influencer !
Our doctor assured us these things were normal, even, "head banging," where the toddler bangs their head on the floor causing bruising! Apparently about 20% of baby boys do that, she told us, so it falls within the normal range, but WOW it did not feel normal obviously. I've had 4 babies and the middle two were extremely easy going and had almost no tantrums in their toddler years, so kids can be very different yet still in a, "normal range." I agree with you that I think she's over-diagnosing what isn't normal and possibly worrying parents. Our oldest that had so many issues, it was horrible parenting him (and I was honest about that, which relatives didn't like to hear but it was true), it lasted for about 3 1/2 years and then he got extremely easy until fairly recently when now he's about to be 13. So I still don't think anything was really wrong with him per se, he was just extremely difficult and parenting him was lonely, hard, and exhausting and awful. I even had one stranger come up to me in a parking lot to make sure I wasn't abusing him because he was screaming so loud and resisting being strapped into his car seat. He was super strong, and was able to hold his body stiff where he couldn't be strapped in for almost 30 minutes (paired with screams like he was dying). Ugh! It gets better parents! Don't give in to their tantrums, leave a fun place the moment they start doing that, endure the hits and bites etc. and take hot baths/calm down when you need to!
My LO will be 2 years old in two months he doesn't throw tantrums often but he will sometimes hit himself or bang his head on the floor. How do I help him?
Have you looked into autism? Theres such a huge spectrum it could be very minor. But hitting themselves and head banging is a huge hint. Of course, it cant be diagnosed until they're 3 unless it's super obvious. I'm going through this with my 20 month old. Dont know if she is or isnt.
Its hard when your first born (girl) was really calm but my second (boy) is really active lol and usually throw tantrums when we going out because he wants to sit in the drivers seat and play. I guess that was kind of my fault for showing him that. But its really frustrating now.
Does it changed??? After 6 months?? Coz my son is omg i took him yo the park evryday no other kid is as active as him ..he is just fearless 2 years old And same making him sit in a sitbelt is way harder process for me too…sadly i lure him with treats or videos on phone
I guess it’s even worse if it is an almost 6 year old, right? My son is so smart. Great language. Great motor skills. He is a challenge, big time. We are starting to wonder what to do. Our oldest son is very well behaved. A typical libra. I guess we need to reach out to a child development specialist or something. :/
I’m sorry, where is she citing her sources and stats from and how is she qualified to speak on this specialized category? Who doesn’t need someone to help them calm down?! I don’t care how old you are or how mature your nervous system is, we all need supportive ppl to help us with very charged emotions. I had to stop after 1:55min in. This lady is “not typical,” as a true professional! lol
So my 1 year old likes to scream at the top of his lungs when hes upset and i have a 3 year old that freaks out when he does this im am just lost on what to do any ideas?

I knew that her tantrums weren’t normal because a lot of times when you give her the thing that she wants she does not come down at all, and she just does not know how to calm herself down. It breaks my heart because I haven’t learned how to do that yet for myself either and I just want to help her so bad.
I hope you find help for you and your baby 🙏 good luck and stay strong! ❤
This is not true. My toddler had 0 tantrums at 2. And at 3 started
Everything you mentioned seem to be not typical for a tantrum, what does a typical tantrum look like
Hey there check out this video on tantrums th-cam.com/video/zZuHcL6XHsM/w-d-xo.html hopefully this helps.
Throwing a tantrum in the store because they couldn't get a toy or whatever they wanted
my child is 18 months, and his speech is very good.
So no school for him on that day
So what does it mean then if it’s not normal?
Does not typical mean it is abnormal?
Definitely speak with the child's pediatrician if you are concerned. Not typical would mean not seen as often.
What ages does this apply to because I have a 13 month old.
I'm very glad hear it. If the tantrum is still in the normal category, does it have to be dealt with immediately or let it quiet down by itself?
Salma Nisa'ur R girl you rock 🥳 🤩 😍 🥰 😘 🤪 😎 😀 🤣
What's the difference between a tantrum and a "normal" toddler upset episode? Thank you ahead of time! :-)
That's what the video is all about
Is my kid throwing his paccifier away or throwing his toys in air for one and half year old normal?
@@eileenfuentes6975
No it's not. Idk.
@@EamonWill did you ever get an answer? This is my question too
@0:20 my kids are like this… i don’t know why since my communication skills are exemplary, and i didn’t have trouble expressing myself as a kid.
How do you deal with a 3 year old toddler who throws a tantrum and take clothes off. is that normal and how can i deal with that.
What did you end up doing? Were just starting this now
@@Breyerluvr4eva That was three years ago I think he just didn't like his clothes altho I just found out that he's autistic nonverbal trisomy 8 mosaicism
I love this. Thank you! Really needed it
You are so welcome! Please share the video on social media.
Hi! Thanks for reaching out. Whew! That sounds like it's getting tough and it sounds like you are trying your best. good job! Ok my grand daughter almost 3 years old screams loud. Its too the point they are going to lose their apartment and live on the street. She won't listen.

Hi there feel free to check out this video I have on how to decrease tantrums th-cam.com/video/K_8uF9Lv50A/w-d-xo.html I hope this helps.
My child has tantrums once an hour. He is refusing to eat and uninterested
My son is 2 years old is aggressive only when he is in daycare. Per his teacher he hits without no reason to other kids. He just started with his ST. My son is on a waiting list for OT. Any advice.
There is always a reason why they hit. Discuss this with you in-person ST to figure out why.
Speak with her pediatrician if you are concerned. Here is a video that may help th-cam.com/video/K_8uF9Lv50A/w-d-xo.html

Hi! I suggest reaching out to your pediatrician as a start.

Hi, what can be some possible reasons that a child is having a tantrums as extreme as you mentioned in your video, or for the reasons that you mentioned? Thank you
Good question! It's best to get some help from a pediatrician to determine.
Yes he is on March 31st

If you are concerned definitely speak with her pediatrician about these concerns.
My 2 year old daughter holds her body stiff while crying n throwing tantrums.is this normal?can she sucking her fingers for comfort cause speech delay

This is the type of video why its crucial TH-cam brings back the dislike count. Ridiculous.
Hi Vernon, it would be a good idea to seek an evaluation. It could be so many things but sounds like the little one needs some extra help.
I would seek a second opinion mama!
Not all this is true. Be careful what you believe.
My 28 month old girl is having lots of the nontypical tantrums you describe... What are some reasons for these types of tantrums?
Also, I sometimes think her tantrums are pain related... She does a lot of back arching, like to the point I think she's going to hurt herself... Is this possible, a pain related tantrum?
HI! Thanks for watching. It'd be best to seek help from your pediatrician.
This can be a sign of Autism, ADHD, Learning disabilities or more.
Thanks for the comment
Right everyone different because chimpanzee hurted just for 3 hours and Eddie is gonna hurt when he is 20 and it will stop hurting when he is 75 but Eddie thing hurted even more on Jan 10
My niece get sooooo angry with such small and as a new parent out of
No where I find this Soo important
Okay now that I know what’s not normal. How to help? I can’t handle this kids tantrums .
Yes
Hi! Watch my video on how to decrease tantrums
Have you looked into autism? Theres such a huge spectrum it could be very minor. But hitting themselves and head banging is a huge hint. Of course, it cant be diagnosed until they're 3 unless it's super obvious. I'm going through this with my 20 month old. Dont know if she is or isnt.
Shrek is chimpanzee also getting a 3rd Covid shot
Yes no school for him on that day
Nothing seem to be typical.
yes, ever child is different!
I wish I could send this to my childs speech therapist. Ugh
Do it! A good speech therapist would WANT to hear or see things that help better understand the issues.
Apparently your version of a typical tantrum is where they yell one time and then say I love you daddy... Be more realistic!

Oh so that means chimpanzee is not going to school on April
Its hard when your first born (girl) was really calm but my second (boy) is really active lol and usually throw tantrums when we going out because he wants to sit in the drivers seat and play. I guess that was kind of my fault for showing him that. But its really frustrating now.
Does it changed??? After 6 months??
Coz my son is omg i took him yo the park evryday no other kid is as active as him ..he is just fearless 2 years old
And same making him sit in a sitbelt is way harder process for me too…sadly i lure him with treats or videos on phone
Hey Sara! Yes, I would recommend getting an assessment. There are so many possible factors that play into childhood development. Parenting is tough!
