Hey there, I'm a former piper too switching to bass and Duncan Gibson was my uncle. Sadly he passed before I decided to look into bass and now I'm cruising TH-cam as I'm starting with a band as a bass drummer. Nice to see he taught you and I can get some second hand instruction from him.
i have just joined a pipe band near where i live in Dumfries, Scotland - i had no previous knowledge of drumming and am learning base drum and also hoping to learn side drum - this video is brill thanks. Dawn x Dumfries, Scotland
Hello, I'm a bass drummer and tenor drummer in a french pipe band and with another bass drummer we're always kinda arguing how I should play. I'm the kind of girl who likes to hit hard, especially when we're marching, so that even the pipers on the front line can hear me. He on the other hand, keeps telling me that the bass drummer should not hit his drum but more stroke the skin and should almost not be heard. What is your idea about this? If other drummers can help me give the right answer that would be great too! For information, the other pipers seem to love my way because it makes it easier for them to follow if they made a mistake during a song.
Sorry Hoss. Never claimed to be an expert. There is just such a scarcity of info out here, at least as compared to say piping and other instruments, that I'm trying to do ... something. Spent the weekend in the Bass class under Mike Cole this Winter Storm, and even took our band bass drummer as well. I'll be more than happy to review and correct my video, or even more happy if a true expert would put some up instead.
Hello sir! How are the wolf river guys? You might remember me. I bought your kintails and I'm a drummer. Living in Ohio currently and playing with capital city pipes & drums. Love somebody is making instructional videos. Pm me and I'll get you my email. Would to catch up. Thanks

Nice video Neo. Don't know how you play the pipes, but you EXPLAIN and portray the mechanics of Scottish Bass Drumming quite nicely. Indeed good sir.
Thanks David, this was really informative.
Thanks Alfred. Just trying to "pay it forward"
