Thank you for showing the CORRECT way to play a retreat in massed bands! Excellent example showing the true pulse in 3/4's, this has for too long been played in incorrectly. Respect the anacrusis!
Do you have anymore bass drum basics in all needed time signatures? I am having quite a time trying to make sure I am doing things proper. It seems no one is really sure. I am still at novice lvl and only want good habits. Thank you so much for the 3/4 . Wow!
Love it. From what I've seen, a significant part of the piping world does this wrong and puts the strong drum beat on the weak pick-up of these tunes. It's become an institutionalized error that needs addressing. It needs someone like you with some standing in the piping world to bring this to the attention of piping and drumming leaders and educators so we can get back on track with these lovely tunes. Maybe a demo of bass drum placement in 9/8 tunes too?

Many bass drummers play to themselves in pursuit of style and visual appearance The bass drummer should play with the piping and the drummers should be in tandem with him . The end result is a great ensemble . In my opinion ,and as you have stated this lone star idea of bass playing should be addressed . Great that someone else has identified this problem , just a pity the drumming and ensemble judges have turned a blind eye on this problem and no doubt it has become , as you have said , institutionalized .
