People in Tumkur also make lot of mudde and use Ragi a lot. This tambuli is called peanut chutney on our side. Grind roasted peanuts, fresh grated coconut, some kadle, garlic, roasted chilli, roasted karibevu, coriander, salt, Bella, tamarind. Make chutney and make it a bit watery. It goes well with mudde, ragi rotti , akki rotti, jola rotti etc.

What we fed our domestic animals when Rice Wheat production improved, is packaged and sold with calorie counts. Today many grass seeds equated to rice and its flour to wheat flour. Many grains.like green moong, Chick Peas, Horse Gram,Cow Peas were cattle feed.In Bihar ORISSA CHICK PEA FLOUR ( BESAN) was poor man's food, made like dough balls eaten with green chilly and onion..if available. Today others ENJOY same if made with fanfare.

That is nearly a 1000 years ago in Karnataka even great Kings and ministers had ragi to keep themselves strong. Today it looks like a poor food because the rich could not stop themselves from the temptations of the fatty and more savoury flavour profile. As for those who stay grounded to their culture more deeply continue to worship this grain sincerely.
