I would have been green in that weather. Didnt phase me a bit sitting here at my computer 😉I am originally from Newport Beach CA. I live in North Dakota where it is currently -5 with a windchill factor of -26. Thank you for taking me out of my discomfort zone and giving me a nice view of the ocean, which I miss very much. Happy New Year!
What's the saying, "The worst day fishing beats the best day working"? Let's change it to, "The worse day sailing beats-well, it beats everything." Both of your educational backgrounds are perfect for sailing, An engineer to fix everything and a micro biologist to keep you both healthy. My wife was a school district superintendent and I was in law enforcement and we're not a good pair to be out blue water sailing.
That right there sounds like the perfect motto for 2025👏🏼 And yes, our degrees have come in handy over the years, but the most important characteristic for a successful cruising couple is willingness to keep learning new things!
40+ knots upwind we drop the sails, yes! Our guidline for 3 reefs in the main sail + no jib is 35-40kn. In a perfect world we would have gone to the third reef and turned downwind but the sea state was too rough, we couldn’t safely go up top to reef.
Lagoon recommends we do not fly headsail only since we have an aft set mast! We’re planning to add running back stays for additional support so we can in the future 🤞🏼
@@HollyandRay Does Lagoon call it a Blue Water boat? If so, then maybe you should ask them why they built a boat that can't handle mild storms in the ocean but calls it a blue water boat.
At least you had a smile on your faces at the end! It’s the cost of visiting places most people will only dream about!
So true, Mark!

Hahaha! Happy you enjoyed this one, hopefully from a dry, comfy chair with a fuzzy blanket😉
Great video and thanks for sharing guys
Thanks for watching! ❤️
So many of the channels I've been following have quit sailing. Nice to find you.
Welcome aboard! We’ve been through a lot, but haven’t quit yet💪🏼
Wow guys! That looked brutal, and 3 on 3 off for 7 days, congrats
It was tough! We tried to extend to 5 on 5 off but it was a waste of time trying to sleep in those conditions anyway… 😅
Rough ride guys😢 hopefully it gets better very soon. Still a good video❤
We are happily enjoying a sunny and calm anchorage now❤️

I know you guys are always smiling (please don’t stop), but you guys must me getting mentally exhausted
Man, we are SO tired of this. Frowning only makes it worse, though😅
That big expensive boat can't sail in 40 knots of wind?

@@HollyandRay Does your mast pump with just a litle jib out?

Lol, okay😂 Did you miss the part where we were making 5kn with no sails
That microbiology degree really working out for you 🧼 🪣
This is not exactly how I envisioned myself using it, but… 🤷🏼♀️😂
