Congratulations to everyone at Remedy for winning best art direction. Thank you Poets of the Fall, Illka Villi, Mathew Porretta, and David Harewood for the amazing performance.
I can't stop watching this it's genuinely so fantastic. My favourite part has to be how happy Sam Lake looks the whole time he's on stage. Absolutely deserves every praise that comes from the game.
The original IRL band is Poets of the Fall, in case anyone didn't know. Two of my favourite songs, Carnival of Rust Lift And from the game Control, Take Control
@@nitish.anand99 One of the most seared into my mind moments of any video game is Control, right after the sequence where Take Control plays, I sat back and said "That was awesome" at *exactly* the same moment Jesse did. That one moment of perfect synchronization with the character left a strong impression.
Gotta say this: Matthew Porretta should have appeared at the end of the video, he learned the choreography just for the event and he dances along at the end - you barely see him dancing here, but you can see that on "people's reaction" videos of this marvelous performance. Regardless, Sam Lake's ocean smile says everything!
Personally I didn’t expect Ilkka and Matthew to be there at all ( I don’t know why 😁) but omfg what a great performance from the cast of AW2! And to Poets of the Fall, these guys are incredible, I’m soo happy for them to perform at the stage so big, they definitely deserve all the hype and fame they’re getting and even more!! Kudos to Poets, Sam, Ilkka, Matthew and David and the whole Remedy team!
I 100% didn't think Matthew Porretta would be there along with David Harewood. Thought it would just be a voice over and Dr. Door showing up on the screen.
Getting both Matthew and Ilkka together on stage was really beautiful. They've both said they love working together but can seldom work together directly.
Well, for at least live singing, Matthew would Have to be there. And Ilkka not being part of the act would leave out a major part of the visual of the performance. Basically it would have been not quite worth it for just Poet's of The Falls to perform the portion of the song on their own or with just the backup dancers and Sam Lake doing the dancing.
The way Sam Lake even came in at the end, just fantastic. On top of three awards too before performing this must have just made it feel all the more incredible.
There were definitely parts that were live, I think mostly the main singer of the band. I’m not sure if Casper Darling and Mr. Door could pull off a live performance lol.
I was pretty sure they would be playing Dark Ocean Summoning because that song only required the Old Gods to be there, but I was so surprised and delighted to see Matthew Porretta, Ilkka Villi, David Harewood, and most importantly, Sam Lake up there absolutely killing it. Bravo gents!
@@Zones_Are_Kept It's more they couldn't have a 13 minute song going on during the awards. Performances in shows like this are only 4ish minutes long typically, so the original song is way too long.
Man, that intro from Dark Ocean Summoning would have caused an eargasm in there..but still I’m happy they choose the musical way. It was a special moment particularly for who played that part.
Whenever I'm feeling down, I put this on and the smile on Sam Lake's face never ceases to make me smile too. I can't wait to see what comes from Remedy next.
Seriously i know! This had to be Sam Lakes biggest success in a very long time, took home 3 major awards for his creation and the musical performance he fought so hard to keep in the game alone was brought to life at the Game Awards! He deserves this moment!
This feels like such an amazing celebration of the game. Sam Lake looks SO. HAPPY. And I love that. Huge fan of thr game (as well as the original + American Nightmare) and it does my heart good to see this. Love this song, love the game, love Sam Lake, love metal, love everything about what I'm seeing.

Alan Wake 2 STOLE the Game Awards IMO!! I was gonna be happy if they won a single award, but they won 3 MAJOR awards and performed this as good as i ever thought they could!
Alan Wake 2, Baldur's Gate 3, Larian, Remedy, they deserved all the love. Along with all the other amazing titles. Even if they didn't win, no one can deny their quality and impact. 2023 was a great year for gaming.
@@stanislavilkinovam Nah no way. This year has probably had a larger quantity of amazing single player games then any other year in probably the last 10 years.

@@stanislavilkinovam well perhaps to you, but I think there was lot more than just 2. Best year in gaming since 2010 if you ask me and by large margin to anything that came between 2010 and 2023.
Didn't expect them to pull the whole scene out of the game :D WITH Sam too. So Cool! Fantastic to see Poets out and about, been fangirling for Captain since 1991 :D
That's exactly how I pictured it: David Harewood, as a host, opens the performance and begins singing along with Matthew Porreta. In the background, Ilkka Villi is dancing with the team, just like in the game, while The Old Gods of Asgard sing behind them. Toward the end of the song, Sam Lake shows up. :) In spite of this, you guys, gave me even more I expected. What an outstanding performance. The best moment about the whole show. Sam Lake during the whole award show, from pure joy here to his heartfelt speech upon accepting their 3rd award… he’s up there with Hideo Kojima in terms of Dev Heads!
I never played Alan Wake, so I don't know much about it, but I am SO HAPPY for everyone who made this game!! Not everyone that makes a sequel to a game 13 years later gets the reception Remedy has, and just seeing people love Alan Wake II and the team so happy fills me with warmth.

Congratulations to Sam and Kyle Rowley for winning best game direction and narrative.
This moment was so deserved... congrats to Sam Lake and the team at Remedy and The Old Gods of Asgard. Long live heavy metal 🤘🤘
This is pretty light, for heavy metal.
@@Poodleinacanit's still heavy metal. Classic NWOBHM, Power Metal stuff right here
@@ZoMbi5lAy3r yep 100% power metal. A lot of people just dont know there are different sub genres of metal
The original IRL band is Poets of the Fall, in case anyone didn't know.
Two of my favourite songs,
Carnival of Rust
Lift
And from the game Control,
Take Control
@@nitish.anand99 One of the most seared into my mind moments of any video game is Control, right after the sequence where Take Control plays, I sat back and said "That was awesome" at *exactly* the same moment Jesse did. That one moment of perfect synchronization with the character left a strong impression.
Gotta say this: Matthew Porretta should have appeared at the end of the video, he learned the choreography just for the event and he dances along at the end - you barely see him dancing here, but you can see that on "people's reaction" videos of this marvelous performance. Regardless, Sam Lake's ocean smile says everything!
His face does appear on an in-game asset which is a book written by Dr. Darling
@@areyoutheregod He's also in a few live action parts as Dr Darling
On top of three awards too before performing this must have just made it feel all the more incredible.
perfect performance. they got everyone including matthew, singing was on point, sam looked the happiest i've ever seen him
totally not playback amirite?
@@Wupday not for the guy with the eyepatch, who absolutely killed it, but everyone else yes.
@@lenaboyer6981he’s the band’s singer.
There were definitely parts that were live, I think mostly the main singer of the band. I’m not sure if Casper Darling and Mr. Door could pull off a live performance lol.
Looks 100% playback to me.
Sam's face enjoying his moment just makes me love this performance so much more.
This has been living rent free in my head,I was so happy to see this
Same and I haven't even played this yet lol
@@nathanlaporte3415 My buddy is the same way. He's listening to Old Gods and hasn't played any of the games. That blows my mind a little.
I think they chose an edited version of this song to reduce the amount of spoilers since all of the songs tend to tell the story
I definitely see that they used auto tune for Herald of darkness but either way it’s a good sone just wish that Dark Ocean Summoning would be better
This was SO GOOD. I can’t believe they actually did it live, I’m OBSESSED
When I saw Poets was performing I said, they better have Sam and Ilkka doing the dance! Did not disappoint!!!
Whenever I'm feeling down, I put this on and the smile on Sam Lake's face never ceases to make me smile too. I can't wait to see what comes from Remedy next.
Same here 😊❤
I'm so happy they got illka and matthew to show up
Sam Lake is such a ball of happiness it's contagious
I did not dare to hope they would bring the cast and Sam to do the dance on stage, but they did I am happier than I though I could be.
Poets of the Fall have been ace for years. Love seeing them with every new Remedy release.
I honestly didn't think they would perform this, so I literally SCREAMED when Mr. Door popped up
I haven't played an Alan Wake game before, and because of this song, I am going to be getting the first and second Alan Wake games and playing them.
Ure gonna love them
They have two amazing tracks in Alan Wake too. The poet and the muse, and War.
definitely get control after as well, its all connected
@willyates2787 Because of epic games, I already have control.
Don't forget American Nightmare!
I can't even begin to fully express just how happy I am for Sam Lake and the team at Remedy. What an amazing moment for all of them!
I get a big goofy smile every time they show Sam Lake in there. You can just tell he loves that he's up there and I love it.
Well, if the rumors were correct, this whole thing was his baby specifically; loving nurtured and fiercely defended against the cutting room floor, and now it’s getting the love it deserves on the largest stage in gaming. I don’t blame him for smiling.
This was great, the feeling of pride when I showed this to my daughter and she excitedly yells "Alex Casey!" when Sam comes out
My dreams were answered! And they got everyone from the song for it, even Alan's VA, what a moment!
When Masayoshi Soken praises the Herald of Darkness sequence. It truly was a peak recognising peak moment.
I'm waiting all day for this performance.. I'm so happy for them. Great performance! quite shock seeing Sam Lake himself joining on stage 🎉🎉🎉
Sam Lake, Dancing with such a big smile on his face for his beautiful creation, Such a joyous scene to watch
Alan Wake 2 STOLE the Game Awards IMO!! I was gonna be happy if they won a single award, but they won 3 MAJOR awards and performed this as good as i ever thought they could!
The choreography of this just looks like everyone is having so much fun. This truly is a masterpiece
Alan Wake 2, Baldur's Gate 3, Larian, Remedy, they deserved all the love. Along with all the other amazing titles. Even if they didn't win, no one can deny their quality and impact.
2023 was a great year for gaming.
There are only 2 really good AAA games. NOt sure if that's enough for a good year.
@@stanislavilkinovam Nah no way. This year has probably had a larger quantity of amazing single player games then any other year in probably the last 10 years.
Alan Wake 2 should have won GOTY though.
@@ForgetfulFoot I agree completely. To me this was best year in gaming since 2010 (which funnily enough was the year original Alan Wake came out)
I would say 2023 takes shared 3rd place together with 2008 and 2010 with only 2004 and 2007 as better years in gaming in that order.
@@stanislavilkinovam well perhaps to you, but I think there was lot more than just 2. All of the 6 main nominees in game awards were great games and below them there were games like Diablo IV, Hifi Rush, Dead Space Remake, Pikmin 4, Jedi Survivor, Hogwarts Legacy, Jagged Alliance 3, Company of Heroes 3 etc that were all very good games imho too.
Best year in gaming since 2010 if you ask me and by large margin to anything that came between 2010 and 2023.
it's not a loop... it's A MUSICAL 🎉❤❤
Didn't expect them to pull the whole scene out of the game :D WITH Sam too. So Cool! Fantastic to see Poets out and about, been fangirling for Captain since 1991 :D
That's exactly how I pictured it:
David Harewood, as a host, opens the performance and begins singing along with Matthew Porreta.
In the background, Ilkka Villi is dancing with the team, just like in the game, while The Old Gods of Asgard sing behind them.
Toward the end of the song, Sam Lake shows up. :)
In spite of this, you guys, gave me even more I expected. What an outstanding performance. The best moment about the whole show.
I enjoyed this part during the walkthrough and enjoy it now as if I was there and I'm a part of the Remedy team. :)
The team really deserves all love.
Personal for me AW2 is GOTY.
Alan, Mr. Door, and the Old Gods were all too much for the Dark Place to contain, so it conceded for just one night for 4 minutes and 17 seconds.
I like that you assume we dont live in the dark place as well😅 plus Mr.Door knows how to get out.
Watching this live and seeing Sam Lake just spawn in was truly magical.
This was easily a top 5 moment in gaming this year when you stumble upon it.
I never played the first Alan Wake and didn't care about the 2nd one....then i heard this song at the game awards, and now I'm strangely hooked on Alan Wake
Sam Lake put his heart and love to Alan Wake 2 its so amazing , the story telling ,the mini movies inside the game .Its like reading an amazing book . I mean cmon wich game director dances in a musical ? This dude rocks🔥
And who looks suspiciously like Max Payne from the first 2 games...
@@jipostusMax Payne 2 - Timothi Gibbs
It's funny how this is the first time Poets of the Fall performed in America
Remedy's games have always been special, and Sam Lake has been a MASSIVE part of that. Seeing him have an absolute blast showing off and celebrating his latest and possibly biggest success yet is a treat. I'm ridiculously happy for him.
Sam Lake during the whole award show, from pure joy here to his heartfelt speech upon accepting their 3rd award… he’s up there with Hideo Kojima in terms of Dev Heads!
Such a moment in gaming history. I hope it inspires others to similarly go all in... ❤
This was my favourite moment of the night. I wasn’t interested in Alan Wake 2 at all and now it’s all I think about.
It's 26 dollars right now, with free max Payne remaster if your playing on pc
I never played Alan Wake, so I don't know much about it, but I am SO HAPPY for everyone who made this game!! Not everyone that makes a sequel to a game 13 years later gets the reception Remedy has, and just seeing people love Alan Wake II and the team so happy fills me with warmth.
Seeing Sam and the others smile while performing this amazing song brought a tear to my eye🥲 if James could have been their to see it though. Rest in piece Mr mccaffrey
This song will live rent free in my brain till the end.
The Old Gods of Asgard, aka Poets of the Fall, are amazing and this song slaps. I hope this will get them much more well-deserved recognition for all their awesome music.
3:14 seeing the og face of Max Payne (yes I know it's Sam Lake) joining in dancing on stage was just so beautiful to witness. Something I thought I would never get to see in my life. But it happened and I'm so glad it did. ❤😂
Also there's the face of Vladimir Lem on the leading vocals 😂
that guy is Alex Casey
It always makes me so happy seeing just how happy Sam Lake is I love it
Alan some where on a typewriter: "I had written myself onto the video game awards stage. I was confused, honored, and excited. Even surrounded by the darkness in its goofy dancing trance I could feel the eyes of millions of viewers on me. Right there. In the spotlight of the stage."
Watching this after playing the game, is uncomfortably meta 😆
I can't even describe how envious I am of the lucky ones that ACTUALLY managed to see Alan Wake in the flesh!!
You really do because he probably got sent back to the dark world after this
The choreography, the level design, the music, the lights, everything about this scene, here and in the game is perfect.
This chapter and the fact they've actually performed it live at the game awards is the greatest occurrence in gaming I've ever witnessed and it's made me so happy!!!!!! ❤
I've been gaming since the days when pong was the newest thing, and while picking the greatest scene in gaming is a pretty tough call, I'd be hard pressed to come up with one that tops this. It was truly unexpected and technically brilliant. It's great that there are still developers out there who can come up with something genuinely new in a game, and this definitely fits that description. A little sad they didn't win best music though.
you can see the sheer Joy in Lake's face
This man was in his sigma phase
RIP James McCaffrey
1958-2023
The OG VA of Max Payne and Alan Wake and Also Control.
Things won't be the same without your Iconic voice in the world of Video Games.
Let's be real, this was the best part of tga 2023
The musical we didn’t ask for, but the musical we needed
The fact they got EVERYONE out there to do Herald of Darkness after all the speculation of whether they would do it at all is f**king amazing. And they killed it.😃
I've never heard of this game but this has made me go watch a playthrough and put this song on loop
Really? Ok, play first Alan wake 1 remastered, then control, then Alan wake 2. You are not going to regret it
It's not a loop :)
@@pedroreyes2213nonono, wait, they need to play max payne, all three parts, then alan wake 1, then all the dlcs for alan wake 1, then quantum break, then control, then all control dlcs, AND THEEEEN and only then alan wake 2 😂
I love how you can tell how much fun they had doing this song
SO GOOD! I absolutely loved this, Man they have such a good time and its such a fan pleaser
This game will live rent free in my head for years to come as a staple in a creative and artistic experience.
My personal GOTY!
Sam Lake cheesing while he's on stage is the best thing I could have ever asked for
And the award goes to
Alan Wake!
Old Gods of Asgard (better known as 1/2 of Poets Of The Fall) are just awesome.
I WAS SCREAMING THE WHOLE TIME !! I was watching this it was 4am in my country! So happy to see this live and see Sam Lake happy like this
I've never been so viscerally happy as to see a creator doing this kind of kooky meta fanservice thing in my life! Sam, you're one of a kind and never, EVER stop being your funky weird lynchian self, there are so many more of us out here than you know and we LOVE this~
Hot men in suits dancing at one of the greatest OGoA tracks at the Awards? "Blown away" is an understatement.
I’d like to see an edit where Alan is facing the camera and he turns around to see this on the TV
No joke, Matthew Porretta has a pretty great singing voice.
Matthew played Marius in Les Miserables on Broadway. He sings like a dream.
This is the best music performance ever i would 100% be down for this dance and singing live
