I totally agree. I have all of these, and others. The bantom is the only one I alternate with now. This has forced the retirement of my cadet and pioneer x. I love them all, but the farmer x and the bantom get the pocket time now.
I just bought one of these today from Amazon for $59. I already had a red Alox version as a collector's item and this one I'll actually use and carry in my bag. I had bought the regular Victorinox Farmer for my relatives in 2020 and they seemed to like them. I prefer all my Victorinox's to have a scissor, which I use often.
I maintain my comment on your teaser post. Farmer is the Alox equivalent of the Camper like Farmer X is to Huntsman. I never carried the Huntsman. I prefer the Ranger as the much more complete tool with the additional metal file plus 2 backside tools (chisel and dolphin screwdriver). It is only slightly heavier than the Huntsman. The scissors of my 58mm are great, why carrying more scissors? The Camper is therefore my choice over the Huntsman. Are the Alox versions better than their 91mm equivalents? Although I love the look and feel of the Alox and the bigger beefier main blade, the 91mm range wins. 1 - Additional scale tools 2 - additional small blade which I frequently use 3 - more solid reamer, less ergonomic than the Alox reamer, but more robust 4 - additional corkscrew which I simply love as a multi-purpose tool 5 - price With the trick of a cheap drugstore nailfile in combination with the 91mm SAK, the Camper is my winner.
@@edwardfletcher7790 bigger holes and easier to use yes. Stronger? I have bent my Alox reamer when I used it without thinking like my other 91mm reamers.
You make a great case. I like my Huntsman, but don't carry it much. My Pioneer X has had a lot of carry time as does my Midnite Manager. However I am planning to try out the Farmer X on a long term carry test.... TBH there are many SAKs that do similar jobs well and in the ends it comes down to preference.
I'm perfectly happy with the Farmer I bought before there were Farmer X's for outdoor use. That Swiss Army 7 would be pretty sweet though, the only thing that I miss going from a selador to alox is a second blade and that little hook blade would be quite useful.
Recently bought this model and absolutely feel it is the best reliable utility pocket knife out there today. Thanks for your wonderful downright truthfull video - the more you deny it, the more this model Alox farmer X becomes, - afirms its utility, presence and importance in a simple name. - The humble king ! Thank you friend !
@@karun293 Thanks! I wanted to do something different to a straight forward knife review. I was really pleased with how this turned out. Glad you liked it.
It is kind of odd that the best knife by the number of tools of their Alox-line is named as "Farmer X". Like it's so unassuming name you couldn't deduct by it, it's the pinnacle of the Alox-line. Compared to the Celedor-line where you have "Swiss Champs" and "Fieldmaster", "Farmer X" sounds outright pedestrian. Also all in all most people buying their first SAK without any profound knowledge probably wouldn't even consider Alox-line because they lack the back tools and tweezers. Shiny aluminium scales of Alox-line with the rectangle for engraving may give impression of something fancier and more sophisticated but more suitable for having it as a knick-knack on your desk instead of your pocket because very few are aware of the more robust main blade and screw driver.
@@MB_EDC Yes, it is perfectly in line with other models like: Soldier, Electrician, Handyman etc. A name that describe the use by naming a profession. It is brilliant!
Hahahaha. My favorite SAK. Been part of my edc for years now. I carry it in a pocket sheath in a cargo pocket. Don't even notice it's there. Perfect for the outdoors.
@@MB_EDC Yes! I saw the title though and two thoughts entered my head. This guy is an idiot or this is a bit of satire. Glad it was the second. I have probably all the SAK alox knives but this one fit the bill perfectly for my needs. Tweezers are on my keychain and I stopped using the toothpick years ago, preferring to carry RotaPoint toothpicks I get from my dentist (much more effective). My version of the Farmer X is red and was a Knifecenter exclusive. Three things I especially love about the knife is that the awl opens to the end of the handle and I also like the saw and scissors (of course). :)
A Red Farmer X sounds great! Yes - I get bored doing the standard reviews. This seemed a better way to show it's features. I have some standard reviews of other Alix Victorinox. The Army 7 is good...
More than 40 years ago my grandfather gave me a farmer alox in red ( no scissors then) . I tried out some other victoinox because i thought they might be better. But i am always coming back to the farmer ! 🙂
@@PokeNachos That is true love. So far I only have one of each of a few SAK models. But my collection is growing gradually and I am very fond of the Alix versions
The 4 reasons why you say not to buy it are basically the reasons why I love my Farmer X...lol 🤣👍 Great video and thanks for sharing. Take care my friend and Cheers!
I regard this as the pinnacle of all EDC SAKs. Prior to this the Farmer was my favourite but with the scissors it is now perfect. It is not to thick at all, the Alox have better blades than the celidor so that is enough to decide it for me. The toothpick and tweezers are not essential, I carry a separate pair of tick removal tweezers anyway and FFS you can use a matchstick as a toothpick.
I agree with all of your points ( well maybe not sure about the matchstick 🤣). But definitely don't need the toothpick - I have those at home....I have a separate fix-it kit in my bag/rucksack with tweezers and tick remover as well as other useful things...th-cam.com/video/FTSFeRl9TAw/w-d-xo.html
Of course! The Army7 is a 3 layer 93mm Alox which is 14mm thick and weighs in at 85g. The Farmer X is a 4 layer 93mm alox, 17mm thick and weighs in at 110g
I have all those SAK's and i prefer the Farmer plus. It's too big for pocket carry in my opinion but I carry mine on my belt In a leather pouch so it's not a problem. I love the hook blade on the #7 but the #7 doesn't have a key ring attachment making it harder to get out of my belt pouch. The Farmer plus has the key ring that I put a small 1 inch lanyard on to assist with getting it more easily out of my belt pouch. Out of all my SAK's its the best, i think, for all around work. The only thing it lacks is the handy little tweezers. I solved that problem by carrying a tiny leather pocket organizer that has a flashlight, collapsible ink pen and the tweezers in it. The perfect EDC kit. Great video. Just subscribed. Have a good day. Ty from Ohio.
I was in a quandary for most of your review, even if I enjoyed your content. At first I disagreed with your count of 4 reasons not to buy the Farmer X until I heard in your summary that reason 4 was because a person may never buy another SAK if they owned the Farmer X. I really did enjoy your review as you tied it up at the end, but I have to tell you that I immediately bought a second one as a gift for a brother-in-law because we both enjoy the configuration that Victorinox put into it. Yes; it's beefy and heavy but at my current age of 78 years, and remembering when I was 19-22 yrs old carrying 60 lbs of 40mm grenades on patrol in Viet Nam to feed my M-79 launcher for them, the Farmer X really didn't seem to be an issue: Merely a matter of perspective, I contend. Thanks for a great video on a subject I have enjoyed since the 1970s.
Mine is paired up with a small pliers that both fit in a belt pouch. As far as the lanyard is concerned a small button battery flashlight hangs from that outside the pouch that easily disconnects. And yes I have Leatherman tool's but this is most efficient for personal use. Great video! : )
@@MB_EDC to be honest it’s to popular :( it makes it feel expensive For a pencil an a needle extra …. I don’t know. But otherwise every other SAK has to blades and can and bottle opener wich are so obsolete. Just like the parcel hook. The main reason I like it is because it has the big scissors and one knife and that awesome can-bottle opener Joni tool. Everything else is nice to have options. Ps. A carry a classic on my keychain so toothpick and tweezers are there. The scissors I find sometimes to small.
@sandorandras4148 I think it's expensive because it has the plus scales with the pen and these have to be put together by hand. Jon Gadget's latest video about his trip to Victorinox factory is really good. I have the Midnite Manager which is also expensive for a small SAK - but it is good value v as it is always in my pocket and I use or several times every day.
I think it depends on off you actually use pliers much.. If not a SAK is a decent alternative. Maybe checkout a couple of my EDC videos or the Leatherman replacement videos. We can't EDC knives/told with locking blades in the UK (unless specifically need, e.g. for your occupation). So a SAK is ideal and over several videos I have been trying different models
@MB_EDC I watch your videos great content I use thr pliers multiple x a day it's a main stay but I removed the scissors for the awl. I need a scissors tho but the Waves scissors were not very good...
@@MB_EDC, Yeah, sure, all tools have a lock. And important: all tools are accessible without opening the pliers. All tools are smooth to open, and high quality. I own the normal Swiss tool also, that version is stronger, but also heavier, too heavy for my EDC use. The Spirit X is perfect for me. But do not buy the military version with the fuse crimper on the pliers. And choose the version with the scissors. There are also new versions with one-hand-opening of the blade. I do not need that, because I always carry an extra folding knife with clip, that opens with one hand. (mostly a RAT1 or RAT2). But I must warn you, when you have tried a Swiss tool, you will never use your Leathermans any more ! No more broken fingers nails , and no more skin pinched between the plier-handles 😀
I was between the Pioneer X and the Farmer X. I chose the Pioneer X for weight and size. I think a 4 layer Alox is too big for EDC. I would use the scissors much more than the saw. My SAKS are the Manager, the Recruit, the Mountaineer, the Alox Single and the Pioneer X.
@@pauljosephbuggle3722 Great set of SAKs. Three Pioneer X has been my office carry for dinner timer now and the Midnite Manager is always in my pocket. Always!
Good call. Plus I think you can fly with the nail care Swiss card. I have paired the Army 7 Alox with the classic SD to get scissors. They are small though
You are wright Sir, I bought The Victorinox Farmer Alox, and believe that I don't need another Alox anymore, because this alox have everything. Greetings from Argentina.
My intuition about the SAK must be generally good, because I picked up a beefy workchamp several years ago for its general handiness -- and more recently an alox Farmer for EDC. It's really perfect for me, since I'm spoiled about scissors, having worked over twenty years at a craft using them daily!
My EDC is an Electrician in ALOX. It's slim enough for the back pocket. I never used the saw anyway. The awl is the surprise star of the electrician. That tool gets used almost daily. As far as the missing scale tools, I keep a small SAK on my keychain, because why carry one knife when you can carry two? Besides, I like the reactions I get when folks ask if they can borrow a knife and I come back with, "Which one?" 🤣
Reason 5. Because you’d have one then and wouldn’t be in as much awe of mine. 😂. Nice one. Farmer X is my current favourite SAK. It was my first and still is my only Alox. Although, I am seriously looking at the Pioneer X for a smaller form factor. Subscribed!
Thanks Jason! DON'T WATCH my other videos on the alox SAKs - or you WILL end up buying at least the Pioneer X and possibly the Army7 or Bantam too....😁
Ive been arguing with myself on whether or not to buy a farmer x, (im a spyderco fanboy, i ALWAYS have a para 3 on me with my purse 'pouch' that has my knipex and a few other tools) so ive never needed a SAK, but lately im weirdly digging them and it makes me want to add a few pieces to my collection
I have the Spyderco UKPK - which is one of my favourite pocket knives. The Farmer X is a great Victorinxo to have - very capable and the saw and scissors combination makes it very useful in lots of situations. Alox SAKs are my favourite as they have that classy, timeless look about them. If you want similar functionality and tweezers plus toothpick - try the Huntsman... more classic Victorinox rather than classy and usually very good value on Amazon.
I am a spyderco fanboy as well- i usually carry a Delica in k390 or a dragonfly in k390. I own a Para3 in s45vn as well. With that being said, I just ordered 3 SAKs lol 😆 😂 😅
@@MB_EDC i just purchased an Explorer, a Rambler and a ClassicSD. I am about ready to pull the trigger on the Compact. Lol. This is addictive. What Alox do you reccomend?
@Oshianis Ooh you have it bad.....I would recommend the Farmer X or Pioneer X of you like a chunky SAK with a lot of tools. Or the Swiss Army 7 if you don't need scissors. For a slim stylish carry the Swiss Army 2 and Bantam alox are both great..... It all depends on what tools you like really...
Thanks a lot for your video. I own a Farmex X, it was my first alox. I hesitated A LOT with the Harvester (Swiss Army 7) but the store didn't have it (I wanted to see it before buying) and I want a knife with a ring. I so agree with you when you say this knife is good in an urban or a country environment. I dream about a "Harvester X", a Farmex X with the pruner blade in replacement of the can opener. About the scale tools, I fix the problem with a... 58mm (a rambler). Always in my bag. This knife is not cheap, it cost the same price as a climber (which is one of the best value from Victorinox with the Super Tinker and the... Waiter !). You can also get a really usefull and cheap 58mm knife with the Rally : The Rally has the small blade, philips screwdriver, nail file / screwdriver and scale tools for a ridiculous price (18$). Yeah, you don't have small scissors but the Farmer X has scissors... (I change the scale of my Rally to get the 58mm pen instead of the toothpick). I also have a Hunstman (my first Victorinox), the Hunstman is the 91mm brother of the Farmer X. But the feeling is really different. The Hunstman is an outdoor knife, a good balance between size / weight and tools. (If I have to replace my Hunstman, I think my choice will be the Ranger). The feeling with the Farmer X is to be a gentleman Farmer...
Thank you brother...You have some great SAKs. I like the Huntsman too. The Swiss Army7 is great too... I think it's great to pick the right SAK for your day and pairing 2 SAKs to get complimentary tools is definitely the way forward. I like your description of the Gentleman Farmer!!! You might like some of my other SAK videos.......
@@MB_EDC yeah, I found your video by chance, I have to check the others now ! I agree with you about pairing 2 SAK. I always have a 58mm (a rambler on my bag or a rally in an edc pouch). tweezers are priceless and we underestimate the nail file. I don't like the new nail file on the cadet or sportman. I could talk about the Forester, the deluxe tinker, the waiter, the Delemont S14 evogrip or the compact but maybe in comment of your others videos :) A last word about the Farmer X : the wood saw is on the same side of the large blade. So it's not on the ring blade ! (Like the Hunstman). If you have a lanyard and try to saw with the Hunstman, the lanyard will be covered by sawdust. Remove it before ! With the Farmer X, you can keep the lanyard between the scale and your hand for a better grip.
@07Arpegius I carried the Midnite Manager for months until I did the September Challenge. Used it at least a couple of times a day every day. Have missed it but trying the Classic SD alox for October
It's a back pack carry. I'd argue you need 3 Alox knives depending on lifestyle. The Farmer X for hiking, the Harvester for carrying around the garden and the Pioneer for every day carry. You should also have a Rambler on you at all times, everyone has a Rambler or a manager right? 😀, that way, which ever Alox you choose to carry, everything is covered. As for price, you're going to get at least 10 years service out of an Alox knife, £40 for a piece of precision Swiss, Swiss made engineering that will last you 10 years or more is cheap. (told you you'd end up buying one 🤣)
The Farmer X competes with: 1) Huntsman/Fieldmaster (scale tools, small blade, back layer awl, slightly lighter, shorter and thicker), 2) the Evo 17/18 and S versions (contour grip, slightly shorter tools at 85mm, serrated scissors, otherwise similar to Huntsman/Fieldmaster) and 3) my choice: the Roxon KS2 Elite. The Roxon adds locking blades and tools, one handed opening blades and tools, upgraded steel and killer scissors. It is slightly heavier than the Farmer X, but has a pocket clip.
I believe you should also mention the Outrider. For outdoors it is an excellent tool, not particularly pretty ( I prefer the Ranger Grip's elegant lines), but useful. Unfortunately it isn't UK legal ( liner lock ), but here in Switzerland that isn't an issue.
The KS2 Elite does move the game on. Unfortunately, it isn't as good in the hand (the satisfying snap of SAK tools🤤) means that it lacks the 'fiddle factor' and stays in a bag rather than my pocket. Hopefully, this will inspire Victorinox to innovate, as quality competition is definitely snapping at their heels. Which SAK though? They're all good.
I have the Hercules and use it around my house because of the lock. I was looking for an outrider, but the Refurbished Hercules canner up at a great price first...
Thank you! I wish I had bought mine a year ago it would have saved me buying 5 other SAKs trying to find the right one. I am carrying this for all of September as part of my #OneKnifeChallenge
I had both the pioneer x and farmer x alox. The weight was the issue for me, switched to normal 91mm. The 93mm Alox thick main blade and in line awl is not needed for civilian use. The back tools and plus scales are more important for me.
I undertand your concerns. I do like the thicker blade and in-line awl. This may be a winter carry for me - not when I have shorts on... I'm going to give it a longer term carry test. The great thing about SAKs is that there are loads to choose from!!!
I agree, the farmer is almost perfect. I carried the red plastic knives, Tinker, Classic, etc. and didn’t get the Alox because I thought the soft aluminum scales would wear. Well, when I got an Alox Cadet I was shocked - no noticeable wear year after year while my plastic scale knives show many scratches. I next bought the Farmer (it came with a nylon belt case) and it has, for me, the most useful tools in any knife. I carry the Cadet daily, but I’m constantly aware of the extra tools on the Farmer for when I may need them.
I love my farmer. It has been my friend for probably more than 10 years by now. It's tougher than you think. I had to grind off the lanyard thingy and it makes a nasty hotspot. I'm about to trade it out for a Roxon KS2E. The Farmer will be my backup. I fancied a change and it has some serious scissors on it. Will have to remember not to walk about too much with it as the knife is locking.
I'm just starting to carry it. It's replacing the Army7 that has no lanyard eyelet... Good luck with the Roxon. I have heard goods things about them. Shame about the locking blade
I have 3 Farmer Xs. All in PSKs - as are UK friendly. Great knife with a slightly thicker blade than in the normal (non-Alox) SAKs. I’ve had them a few years - so got them at better prices.
It's hard to fault them. PSK - Personal Survival Kit? Definitely UK friendly - not just legally also people's perception of a SAK is that it's non-threatening
@@MB_EDC Correct - personal survival kit and they are indeed more socially acceptable. My everyday is either the Bantam Alox in my wallet, or a Huntsman in my pocket. I find the latter to be an excellent all rounder. For many years I carried a SAK Waiter - as that has a corkscrew. and was invaluable. Still fond of it. Congratulations on your channel. I am thinking about creating one as well. I wish you the very best.
@mandeepsinghsehmi1951 Great carries! Thanks for your comments. Please do start your channel. If I can do it anyone can. I started mine about 18 months ago and really enjoy it as a hobby. If there's anything I can help with let me know. My email is on my channel page.
And the one regret that most TH-camrs have is... They wish they started earlier! I fully agree with this, so don't leave it it to long before you load up your first video!!!
Good video👍Whilst I love the Alox versions, I would miss the scale tools. Unless you really need a saw, I can recommend the Climber as a good all-rounder.
My first victorinox I bought was at age 15 it was a champ . I've had one with me ever since ,like 31 years . . I got in the limited edition 2024 pioneer x and I got the army 7 last night . I've had them with me all day long , I'm going through the same dilemma and logic that you are but with a twist I'm comparing the farmer x alox with the field master . I also agree adding the special blade from the army 7 to the farmer x would be great .
@@clayb.6077 A great set of SAKs. I tend to choose the one I think best for the day ahead and I do get bored carrying the same one every day. Between three Pioneer X and the Army 7 you have most days covered. I have a video about this...
Some people just collect Swiss army knives and not really use them for example the usable one I have laying about my kitchen is a Spartan Which I find right for my needs But the largest one I have is the Swiss champ which I never Use because it's to big in my opinion but is still worth getting if you collect swiss army knives the downside of the alox models is always the price because you get less for more money with that particular design some people consider the alox grip to be worth the extra cost but some sort don't and you also get the limited edition versions that are year stamped that cost even more than the standard version so I always say when it comes to buying a Swiss army knife it all comes down to how much you are willing to spend on a single knife manly decides which ones you do buy or don't buy and everyone has different opinions on how much is to much but in the case of the alox farmer around £50 is the highest I would pay for a four layer swiss army knife
I get your point about cost and collecting. I have bought a few SAKs and end up only using a few regularly. Sometimes it's the more expensive ones that I use the most - like this one and the Midnite Manager
Those knives being "heavy" or "light" is a personal opinion. Victorinox makes knives bulkier than that (Swisschamp, Handyman, etc) and many people carry them. The Farmer X is comparable with the Huntsman, a best-seller model. I really don't know why someone wouldn't buy the Farmer X.
Agreed, and of course I do carry the Farmer X. I have had the Huntsman for nearly a year now but don't carry it too much. Not sure why as it has a similar toolset.
@@MB_EDC I loved your video on the Farmer X. I owned one and agree with everything you said. However, at the end of the day, I have selected a Spartan for EDC and a Huntsman for when I am in the wilderness. Sometimes, when I really want to strut I carry the Outrider (w/o the side lock release). I do wish they made a Spartan X for my EDC. But, I guess I could make do with the Pioneer X. 🤷🏻♂️
@@ROE1300 I'm glad you liked the video. I have reviews of the Huntsman and Pioneer X. These are more boring... Great carry. I was looking fort an Outrider and found a refurbished Hercules instead. That has the side lock as well..
@@MB_EDC My Outrider might be a Gen.2 version has it does NOT have the side lock release. I purchased this Outrider used and it desperately needed some TLC, but when I was finished it is one sweet knife. I hope you like your Hercules, I have never seen one of those.

Ah you have gone over to the Dark Side! 😂 I fully understand if you need to use pliers on a regular basis. In the UK locking blades are not legal everyday carry - do I don't carry my Leatherman Rebar. SAKs do make a great 5th pocket carry and can be really useful if you carry them everyday...
I wasn't expecting that! ;D The way you were setting up the video I was thinking you were going to say for Reason #4 --> get the $33 Huntsman instead. ie it's cheaper, it's lighter, same tools. (Though it's not as robust as the alox tools are beefier). :D My reason #4 is the Rambler. Always on my keychain :D
It was fun making this video. Hope you liked it. I have the Huntsman already but for some reason I don't carry it a lot. This one could be my new favourite carry. Along with my Midnite Manager of course which I carry everyday and use a lot...
I am doing a challenge for October where I carry a different knife (the Farmer X was for September) and I do miss it. Is it the alox version of the mini champ that you’ve gone for?
Love it! the only issue I have with it is the price. No idea why there is such a jump in price when adding an extra tool over the normal one? Even the pioneer X is pretty cheap, not much of a jump from the pioneer to the pioneer X. But it’s just a Alox huntsman without the back tools and small knife. It’s got all the tools the majority will ever need, with the more robust construction and the thicker tool blades. But saying that about price, the compact is over 50 bucks and that has a knife, scissors, combi tool, back tools the hook and I think awl and scale tools. That is a rip off, no idea why it’s so expensive. All I’m wanting is the options of some better steel and one hand opening in the 3” line from Victorinox.
There are rumours of some better steels. Some of these are more expensive because they are hand assembled. The scissors often add $10 to the price. Have you seen the recent @jongadget video at Victorinox HQ?
I love my Farmer X also the Ranger. I have the red and silver Alox large lock back folding hunters…don’t remember the names of those. I use my single blade silver Alox a bunch.
@@BladesRKing great collection. I love the large Victorinox knives. Unfortunately they steer not UK legal carry (blade over 3" add locking) do I just have the Hercules which I use around the house or its in a car tool bag.
I am hoping to use the Farmer X for Hiking and light bushcraft. This is a first look review and I'll come back to it in a few months time. If heavier bushcraft is planned then maybe a 111mm SAK like the Trekker/trailmaster would be better, or to go all in and get a fixed blade knife. I am still using my Mora and have a comparison video planned comparing it with a Hultafors and a Fiskars
The Farmer X is the top of the top model amongst the Alox series. But that being said the Pioneer X is a very strong contender when it comes to realistic EDC use. For me the saw is the tool i use the least but i like to have the capability. But then the Pioneer X comes with it slightly slimmer frame..... Yeah, it is a tight race so i have both. ( Not true, i have two Farmer Xs, just in case).
Haha! I like your thinking. I think I will keep the Pioneer X as my city/office knife (I carried and used it today) and will use the Farmer X the rest of the time. Especially at weekends...
@@MB_EDC That is about my system too, and a modded 58mm with a Sandviken 12c27 blade from a small Eka knife and Midnight Manager scales (it was a Rambler from the beginning).
If this had a file, i would consider it the perfect knife for me. Of course, that would add an extra layer and more weight. I've never used the can opener on any of my multitools. I appreciate an inline Phillips driver as well.
I'd probably save a bit of weight and just opt for the regular farmer instead (assuming I anticipated a need for the saw, otherwise Pioneer or Cadet). I rarely use scissors out & about, about 90% of things I might do with them I can manage with a sharp knife instead.
Really good point, especially as I always have my Midnight Manager, or s Classic SD on me as well. Instead of the Farmer, I'd probably carry the Army 7 (Harvester) as I really liked the hook blade. I guess three Farmer X is good if you need a saw and scissors and only want to carry one SAK.
@@MB_EDC Part of the fun of SAK's is figuring out which model covers most of your needs in the most compact possible package. That said, the 'right' answer is subject to change 😅
Hahaha. Just found your channel. Very nice. But not true for me. I went from big to small. Red Alox Farmer X. Next Red Pioneer X. And then the Red Cadet. And I par them with my Red Olight Baton 3. Look forward to following your channel
I know what you mean.. The nail nick for the scissors is on the "wrong side". Worth persevering though - it has an excellent toolset. Great for an urban carry
@@MB_EDC But NO tweezers, nor toothpick!!! A splinter, or a piece of meat caught in the teeth? Certainly not unusual. I don't see why these tools should be dropped. What's your thinking?
@EngineTuning None of the alox models have the scale tools. For me that's not a problem when I'm out and about. I have a small fixit kit with tweezers. I could easily add a toothpick. If not I have those things at home and wait till I get back.
@@EngineTuning We all like different knives/tools. I want sure about the Alox versions until I bought one. Worth a try if you see a good deal on one. They tend to have thicker blades and feel different in the hand. Maybe check out my recent video looking at three of them.
Haha. That sounds as bad a reason as my first three..😂. I don't have 30 SAKs yet, but I'm working towards it!!! I have my eyes on the Cheesemaster next!
Haha. I just bought 2. I only paid half the retail price and I don't need the toothpick or the tweezers. so for me only your 4th point applies: "This is pretty damn near perfect."
I already had the electrician and I bought the farmer X for the price of the farmer. I want the pioneer X and my wife wants the Swiss army 2…. And of course as a French normal guy I already got a Spartan and a climber for the cork screw….
Great collection. Corkscrew... So stereotypical!! I love my Pioneer X. The electrician and the Army 2 are on my list to buy. The Bantam Alox is cool too.
@@MB_EDC the Farmer x wasn't my first sak, nor my first Alox. I think I have 3 Alox, I carry two, the Farmer x and a much slimmer model with only two blades, a standard straight edge and the shorter hook type blade. I use both every day, it's mostly the scissors that I use on the X. That's really why I like and bought the X. The scissors are good for gardening, same as the small hook blade. I think the other Alox I have is a farmer too, can't remember, it's brand new, I never used it. I put it into a pencil case I keep with my maps and I haven't taken it out of there. Two is one and all that. I think I have at least 10 SAK, from the US military version, the German military version and the Forester, lol. I even buy them as presents for people. Hard to beat a good SAK, you won't convince me not to buy more of them. Some of the collection pieces are actually a good investment. The limited edition pieces go up in value very quickly once sold out. I have some put away for my Grandchildren.
@user-yx2ff3mv2q Haha! It was not a serious request! I am a big Victorinox fan too. Especially Alox versions. I have another video coming out soon comparing the Army 7 and the Farmer X. Which one is the best?
Haha! Yes this has got more people to watch it and hopefully made it more interesting than a straight forward review.... Well it was more interesting for me to make!
@MB_EDC I carry a Victorinox Huntsman pocket knife and a Victorinox Swiss Tool X Plus Ratchet multitool everywhere I go. I never leave home without them.
@scenicdriveways6708 Great carry!!! I have the Huntsman and like it, but never seem to carry it. It has a great toolset. Very similar to the a farmer X. I think I am going through an Alox phase at the moment...😁
I have been carrying the Army7 six this week. That has a great toolset too. I plan to carry the Farmer X for a month to really get into using it. I think I have the beginnings of an addiction to the Alox SAKs.
I always support small channels that make sense. On this model I would prefer the file over the saw but I EDC 2 layers max. For outdoor EDC and as a 'last resort knife/tool' I use the old Dutch army version of the Pioneer. It has the same tools but all are a bit thicker material. For in town I EDC the celludor Bantam because I use the toothpick a lot. There's also an alox Bantam if you really need a slim profile.
@@StevanOutdoor Thanks. A file is handy.. it's always difficult to get the toolset right. I tend to pick the Victorinox SAK for my day planned ahead, paired with a 58mm SAK. Usually my Midnite Manager.
Really? I know the Pioneer X comes in different colours. TBH I like the silver alox the most. The coloured ones fade if carried a lot as the colour wears off.
@@MB_EDCknife connection had them in red when they first came out. Great knife. Going to the woods? A fixed blade on your belt and this in your pocket. Done. Skip the $100+ multi-tool.
You sound conflicted! It’s perfect but don’t buy it! LOL oh, you can fix the lack of tweezers and tooth pick buy attaching a classic or rambler with a mini spring clip to the key ring… then it’s even more perfect!!
Very well done. I feel sorry for those people who didn't watch the whole video. They missed out on your subtle humor.
Thanks. I get bored doing straight reviews. I'm glad you liked it!!!
Probably the best SAK in the lineup… been carrying mine for several years.
It is great isn't it! I wish I had come across it earlier would have saved me buying a load of other SAKs....
I totally agree. I have all of these, and others. The bantom is the only one I alternate with now. This has forced the retirement of my cadet and pioneer x. I love them all, but the farmer x and the bantom get the pocket time now.
I have the Swiss Champ to try out. But I think that the Farmer X will probably still beat it for usefulness Vs weight...
Yes silver alox is for using... Coloured alox is for collecting!
Great video! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Thanks Eric. I'm trying to do something different to the straight forward reviews... Hope it comes across OK?
😂🤣 Well done! The Farmer X is part of my hiking/outdoor 10 Essentials+ Kit. I really like the beefier tools on the Alox knives.
Thanks! I think it is a great alrounder!
1 - Additional scale tools
2 - additional small blade which I frequently use
3 - more solid reamer, less ergonomic than the Alox reamer, but more robust
4 - additional corkscrew which I simply love as a multi-purpose tool
5 - price
With the trick of a cheap drugstore nailfile in combination with the 91mm SAK, the Camper is my winner.
That's a really compelling argument 👍
But, the Alox reamer is stronger and capable of making a larger hole.
I definitely like the in line awl/reamer. Much more ergonomic.
It must have taken something tough to bend the Alix awl!!??
I'm perfectly happy with the Farmer I bought before there were Farmer X's for outdoor use. That Swiss Army 7 would be pretty sweet though, the only thing that I miss going from a selador to alox is a second blade and that little hook blade would be quite useful.
@@jelkel25 The hook blade is brilliant! Worth giving a try. Check out Amazon it was on sale last month.
To me, the Farmer X is just about perfect as well.👍 Awesome video, buddy!
@@davidkurle5418 Thanks David. Yes if I could only carry one Knifer for a month or more it would be this one...
Truth! Point #4 sums up the totality of the why not. There can be no argument on these points, if you do, then you need more Victorinox SAK's.
Yes! And of course there is a difference between needing more and wanting more SAKs... Do you think?
You are right sir. For absolute perfection they can change the bottle opener for the small curved blade of the Harvester...
I agree 💯
What is the four reasons I'm still trying to find out why, seriously one of my favorites
@@bigGeo5460 There are none.....it is perfect. I made up the first three and sort of confessed in reason 4..🤣
It does have a crap name. I am a huge fan of this and the other Alox knives too.
I like that it is modest and don´t have a flashy name. It enhances the pragmatic utilitarism that IS the knife.
Haha! Of course. But "Farmer" 😂
@@MB_EDC Yes, it is perfectly in line with other models like: Soldier, Electrician, Handyman etc. A name that describe the use by naming a profession. It is brilliant!
@@RiderOftheNorth1968 I guess you're right it does fit in with the others.....😁
The hook blade needs to be included in more models. Such a useful implement
Yeah I LOVE that blade 👍
But I love the Electrician blade more...
@@edwardfletcher7790 Agree!
Definitely. I would rather they switched to the combi tool that's on the Bantam (maybe a bit thicker) and the hook blade..
Great call. The Electrician is on my list to get!!
Bought it! Loving it!
Brilliant. It's like a more sophisticated Huntsman. It is my favourite of the medium sized SAKs
Hahahaha. My favorite SAK. Been part of my edc for years now. I carry it in a pocket sheath in a cargo pocket. Don't even notice it's there. Perfect for the outdoors.
Great!! Hope you liked the video...
The Farmer has a great toolset. Fine if you don't need scissors. Plus you can always pair and it with a Classic SD if you need/want scissors.
I love this model so much I bought two. I'd buy more but currently I want the ranger series to hold the same lineup of tools.
Exactly my thoughts! Hopefully more fun this way. Thanks Dave!
It’s my fav sak with the soldier 08, it’s true it’s the most expensive alox, but it might be perfect for city and country. Regards
True. That is my thinking. A one for all occasions carry.
Farmer X sounds like the title of an adult movie.
Haha.. Maybe. Same with the Pioneer X...? Not sure the toolset matches the name there either.....
#4 was a surprise. And I agree completely.
@@shj2000 Great! I was being playful. These review videos can be a bit dry and I am trying to make them more interesting...
Could you compare the Farmer X and the Army 7 in thickness and weight?
Of course! The Army7 is a 3 layer 93mm Alox which is 14mm thick and weighs in at 85g. The Farmer X is a 4 layer 93mm alox, 17mm thick and weighs in at 110g
@@MB_EDC thank you for the quick response. I think the Army 7 suits better for me because of its weight. Thank's a lot 👍
Happy to help...
Sounds like a great carry!!! Thanks for sharing and thanks for the sub. I have a load of other Victorinox reviews if you are interested...
Thanks....I wanted to make the review more interesting. I genuinely love this version. It had such a versatile toolkit.
Mine is paired up with a small pliers that both fit in a belt pouch.
As far as the lanyard is concerned a small button battery flashlight hangs from that outside the pouch that easily disconnects.
And yes I have Leatherman tool's but this is most efficient for personal use. Great video! : )
Thanks. Sounds like a great carry you have. It's it one of the magnetic Olight flashlights? I gave my wife one of those for her keychain...
@@MB_EDC photon
@@A_Meek_lake_Dweller Thanks - I have not seen that one - I will check it out....
Hi there. Did you ever consider buying a SAK Compact, it doesn’t have a saw but a pair of scissors and some other city tools. Check it out!
It is on my list. I know it's popular....
Great video 👍🤙👊❤️
Thanks Will glad you liked it.
I've been thinking about this 1 myself.... but I carry a Wave+ everyday.... still thinking bout it tho
I recommend the Victorinox Swiss tool Spirit X, it is the best tool I ever owned.
Weight is acceptable 210 grams.
And a nice sheath for on your belt.
It is on my list to check out. Does it have locking blades?
@@MB_EDC,
Yeah, sure, all tools have a lock.
Always!
A good combination is to pair the alox Farmer with the victorinox swiss nailcare card (which has scissors).
It is awesome isn't it!!!
My intuition about the SAK must be generally good, because I picked up a beefy workchamp several years ago for its general handiness -- and more recently an alox Farmer for EDC. It's really perfect for me, since I'm spoiled about scissors, having worked over twenty years at a craft using them daily!
Great SAKs - both of them!
I like your thinking. I definitely use scissors a lot and always have the Midnite Manager. The Electrician is on my list to get....
With that being said,
I just ordered 3 SAKs lol 😆 😂 😅
@Oshianis Careful SAKs are addictive especially the alox versions!!!😁
I could talk about the Forester, the deluxe tinker, the waiter, the Delemont S14 evogrip or the compact but maybe in comment of your others videos :)
A last word about the Farmer X : the wood saw is on the same side of the large blade.
(told you you'd end up buying one
🤣)
Criminal that there isn't an Alox Rambler 🤔
Haha checkout my other video suggesting you pick the right alox SAK for your day! I still have a couple on my list to get!!😁
Agreed. Still the classic SD and Mini Champ though!!!
@@scottshaw1310 Anything that inspires Victorinox to innovate is good.
Great suggestions. The locking blade rules out that Roxon as not legal carry in UK. I like the idea of creating a 58mm SAK as well.
I have the Hercules and use it around my house because of the lock. I was looking for an outrider, but the Refurbished Hercules canner up at a great price first...
Hell, if I hadn't watched this video I probably never would have bought it... Damn good review :) )))))
@@MB_EDC The elegance of the Alox handles are unmatched, i still miss the farmer x sometimes.
Maybe try one of the slimmer Alox knives. The Bantam is awesome and super slim. I have a video in my Victorinox playlist.
@@OnTheRiver66 watch out if you get the coloured Alox as it wears off. They are more for collecting than using. The silver ones are great though.
The Farmer X is my only Alox.I have over 20other SAKs.
That's a good collection. I need to count up my SAKs. I must be getting close to 20.

Good video👍Whilst I love the Alox versions, I would miss the scale tools. Unless you really need a saw, I can recommend the Climber as a good all-rounder.
Thanks. The climber is a great SAK. TBH most SAKs are good, it comes down to preference.
I’ve heard victorinox are upgrading the blade steel for some models next year, so I would wait and get the one with a better main blade steel
TBH I am not a steel snob. The standard inox does allI need it to and is easy to sharpen.... Does it really need a better steel??
My first victorinox I bought was at age 15 it was a champ . I've had one with me ever since ,like 31 years . . I got in the limited edition 2024 pioneer x and I got the army 7 last night . I've had them with me all day long ,
I'm going through the same dilemma and logic that you are but with a twist I'm comparing the farmer x alox with the field master .
Some people just collect Swiss army knives and not really use them for example the usable one I have laying about my kitchen is a Spartan
Which I find right for my needs
But the largest one I have is the Swiss champ which I never
Use because it's to big in my opinion but is still worth getting if you collect swiss army knives the downside of the alox models is always the price because you get less for more money with that particular design some people consider the alox grip to be worth the extra cost but some sort don't and you also get the limited edition versions that are year stamped that cost even more than the standard version so I always say when it comes to buying a Swiss army knife it all comes down to how much you are willing to spend on a single knife manly decides which ones you do buy or don't buy and everyone has different opinions on how much is to much but in the case of the alox farmer around £50 is the highest I would pay for a four layer swiss army knife
👍 😂😂😂 No one has ever told me not to by something because it is almost perfect before. Clearly I will need to ponder your recommendation. 😵💫
It depends if you like it as I do and other SAKs will not measure up well. Just a bit of fun really. I get bored making straight knife reviews.
@ROE1300 I bought it already refurbished from a great guy in the UK. Dan from Bladebridge Customs. I did a review of it th-cam.com/video/IIJqlUFCJLA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=FKvD0eLUIIfHQa6c
I love Swiss Army knives and have several but I have gone full Leatherman now
Ah you have gone over to the Dark Side! 😂 I fully understand if you need to use pliers on a regular basis. In the UK locking blades are not legal everyday carry - do I don't carry my Leatherman Rebar. SAKs do make a great 5th pocket carry and can be really useful if you carry them everyday...
@@MB_EDC 🤣🤣🤣
I wasn't expecting that! ;D The way you were setting up the video I was thinking you were going to say for Reason #4 --> get the $33 Huntsman instead. ie it's cheaper, it's lighter, same tools. (Though it's not as robust as the alox tools are beefier). :D My reason #4 is the Rambler. Always on my keychain :D
It was fun making this video. Hope you liked it. I have the Huntsman already but for some reason I don't carry it a lot. This one could be my new favourite carry. Along with my Midnite Manager of course which I carry everyday and use a lot...
@@MB_EDC Love the Midnite Manager too! Well, it's basically the Rambler with a pen/light.
@@Dracomies Yep. It is but far my most used tool. Not cheap, but good value on a cost per use basis
I absolutely love my Farmer X and have a mini champ on the way. 😁
I am doing a challenge for October where I carry a different knife (the Farmer X was for September) and I do miss it. Is it the alox version of the mini champ that you’ve gone for?
@@MB_EDC it sure is !! I figured that they would make a perfect couple. I also bought the Swiss Army necklace to go with it. It'll be a perfect EDC.
@MikeKelly9786 I am very envious. The mini champ alox is a bit pricey. I’m waiting for it to go on sale.
@@MB_EDC I found it on Amazon for $50.00.
That's a good price....
Love it!
the only issue I have with it is the price.
Have you seen the recent @jongadget video at Victorinox HQ?
yep👍🤣 although i have the farmer without the scissors and have a sd on my keyring it ismy edc and i have cut lots of coppiced hazel sticks.👍👍👍
Sounds like Perfect pair to carry. I also like the Army 7 (Harvester) and pair it with my Midnite Manager or Classic SD
Cute twist to your video.
Glad you liked it. Not too clickbaity I hope. I want to add something to the basic reviews
@@MB_EDC What do you think of the SAK models for hiking and bushcraft?
I am hoping to use the Farmer X for Hiking and light bushcraft. This is a first look review and I'll come back to it in a few months time. If heavier bushcraft is planned then maybe a 111mm SAK like the Trekker/trailmaster would be better, or to go all in and get a fixed blade knife. I am still using my Mora and have a comparison video planned comparing it with a Hultafors and a Fiskars
All the reasons to love it !!! ❤️👏Thank you 👍
Thanks for your support
Wow sounds cool. I have not got into modding yet. Maybe some day
My only gripe with the Farmer X is how thick that knife is.
Nice video though. 🙂
Thanks Michael. Yes it is a bit chunky. But thinner than the Huntsman due to the Alox scales.
If this had a file, i would consider it the perfect knife for me. Of course, that would add an extra layer and more weight. I've never used the can opener on any of my multitools. I appreciate an inline Phillips driver as well.
I love the inline Phillips. Also like the combination roll in the Bantam
Great review.
Thanks Brother. I love the alox SAKs and have a few videos on them....

Nice collection. I have Pioneer X, Bantam, Army7 and Farmer X. I definitely want to get the mini champ and the classic SD in alox
@@MB_EDC the Mini Champ Alox is the perfect city edc. recommend get 2x
@GuidoChiabrera Agreed. I have avoided it so far as it is expensive. It is on my list to get...
@@CSGraves Agree totally!! It can be expensive though.........but fun....😁
Hahaha. Just found your channel. Very nice. But not true for me. I went from big to small. Red Alox Farmer X. Next Red Pioneer X. And then the Red Cadet. And I par them with my Red Olight Baton 3. Look forward to following your channel
Thanks Steve!! Glad you liked the video! At this rate the Bantam could be next fort you!!!🤣
I bought a Pioneer X and after about 5 minutes, I decided to sell it. Those scissors were really hard to get out.
I know what you mean.. The nail nick for the scissors is on the "wrong side". Worth persevering though - it has an excellent toolset. Great for an urban carry
Big Sak I have besides my ranger or workchamp
@@Mystninja I have a ranger and Swisschamp on way to me. I'll be reviewing them ina few weeks...

Interesting! I love the Alox models. Classy INA different way to the red celidor ones. Great how we all have our favourites!! Thanks brother!
@@MB_EDC Agree! I for one can´t stand back tools and how they interfer with my grip. Tweezers and toothpick have never been of any usefulness for me.

The width sure isn't 117mm? Is it 17mm?
Yes!!!
Altura: 17 mm
Longitud: 93 mm
Ancho: 23 mm

I was really hoping that watching this video would save me some money. Unfortunately it looks like I'm going to have to buy one now. 😁😆
Sorry Brother!!! It could be your last SAK... If that's any consolation🤣🤣
@@MB_EDC My VK has both, so no need to carry extra tools.
I think that I'll steer clear of the Alox :D
@@EngineTuning We all like different knives/tools. I want sure about the Alox versions until I bought one. Worth a try if you see a good deal on one. They tend to have thicker blades and feel different in the hand. Maybe check out my recent video looking at three of them.
Knife people on TH-cam, have said many times that victorinox blade steel is very soft, and that a steel upgrade would be better. What do you think?
@@marcdee4427 I find the standard Knox steel fine for my use. I am not doing tough cutting with my SAKs. Plus Inox is easy to sharpen...
Reasons to not buy the Farmer X Alox...

@scenicdriveways6708 Great carry!!! I have the Huntsman and like it, but never seem to carry it. It has a great toolset. Very similar to the a farmer X. I think I am going through an Alox phase at the moment...😁
@MB_EDC
Can't say I blame you, the Alox are good looking pocket knives. The Farmer X seems to have the perfect tools on it.
