I'm glad it's not just me that uses that as a nail cleaner Also, because up until I retired I wore cargo trousers one pocket of which just held a swiss, I swopped the split ring for a larger one to give me something to extract it
I have a Farmer X and it’s a great tool. A bit thick while pocket carrying though, but not as thick as the Huntsman which has similar features. I like to pair it with a Rambler which provides a small blade, nail file, small scissors, toothpick, tweezers and a caplifter with excellent Philips driver.
Really good point about pairing the Army 7 with a Classic. I'm already set up as I carry an Alox Classic on my keys. Strongly considering purchasing an Army 7 because the Hawkbill blade would be very useful.

@@MB_EDC I think I only have one Alox with a bail (the last run of Wenger Soldier, the "Sans Croix" from 2012), and I'm not using it, but I'm sure I would hate how big it is, and if you are not careful, you can even close the blade on it and roll your edge.
Good point. Better off without any attachment point. I have used zip pulls a couple of times as mini lanyards. Otherwise they seem to get in the way...
The Farmer X is hard to beat for the size and weight. Thanks for the congrats I seemed to have jumped up overnight.. Are you there yet? You can't be far behind if not...
Both are fantastic knives with exceptional design and build quality. I agree about the lanyard loop. A keychain ring on what is essentially a full sized pocket knife seems useless and can cut a hole in a pocket with repeated use.
Pairing is the key. If you carry a Classic or even better a MiniChamp, you are good with more or less any Alox model. My fav is the Army 7 of course, as I am a total fan of hooked blades. And I feel also better with a knife which comes with 2 blades ... ;-) That said, one of the main reasons why I do not really like the Farmer X is the key ring. This construction really hurts my hand when I want to use the knife. I'm not sure why but I don't have these problems with standard Cellidor Victorinox models, it happens only with the Alox key rings (resp. the fixture of the ring).
To me, the key ring attachment point is an even worse hot spot when the ring is taken off. I love the way these 93 mm Alox feel without any key ring and attachment point.
they should make alox scale options with tweezer, pin, toothpick & accessible hidden 4th slot to get the best of both worlds. sometimes you just need a pin to reset a device or access a sim card slot. victorinox should also make blackout matte options. not a fan of shiny tools although i like their lineup, i end up either going for a different plus scale like sapphire or picking up a different manufacturer like leatherman because they do carry blackout options.
A lack of scissors is a hard sell for me. I often carry a Cadet with Alox scales because it is so lightweight, and I got for a very good price. I very much like it, but it would be an even better knife with scissors. It has a nail file, which I find very useful.
