A rare chance to walk through this Scottish Castle. Its thought construction started in 1566, though some parts maybe older.
From 1957 until 1995 it was owned by Gordon MacLachlan Miller, who served with the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm during WWII, flying Swordfish torpedo bombers on HMS Fencer from 1943 until 1945.

I don't know why this castle was left to ruin by vandalizers. I am doing my family tree, and on my 2nd great grandmothers side to my father, I found the Forresters living in this castle hired by the King to make military weapons. My dna showed extreme kinship to that side of the family. My 7th and up were great grandfathers , the Lockharts in Lee Castle.

Seems like a lot of these abandoned castles are in Scotland. I live in U. S. But I am going to donate because this is out history people...maybe not directly, indirectly. It is a shame so many busted their butts to build these gorgeous places and they are just forgotten. Come on people. If you don't live in Scotland and can't help that way donate...or something!!!!!

Too bad the National Trust or some Heritage foundation could not take this marvelous castle over and get it restored! What a loss! And its also an archaeological loss as well! What a shame such a magnificent castle!
You did a great job filming also. When you heard the noises of someone else in the castle it creeped me out I got goose bumps on my arms. I was expecting a ghost or somebody to pop out at any second! Lol! Hope you give us more videos. Its the closest I will ever get to beautiful Scotland. I am half Welsh and half Irish! But I love Scotland also! I felt as you were walking through it that I was right there walking along side you! Closest I will ever get I guess! Keep making videos I love them!

At one time itwas in the possession of a wartime fleer air arm pilot who was living in thhe ruin and working to restore it he used the kutchen as living quaeters and a platform at the top of the restored part of the main staircase for a bedroom.

Yes it was owned by him, I only met him once. By total chance, he trained at RNAS Jackdaw, which is up at Crail and so I have probably stood in his old barrack room as I have been all over that old base.

scoutthedoggie2002 did you find the door open and the place not secured? When I was there a few years back the keeper of the place, a mister Coleman, gave my wife and I a tour of the place but the graffiti was there then and it was locked up.

He will often let people in and give them a guided tour, but as he really is in the middle of renovations, it is sometimes not safe to allow people in, with possible falling stonework etc.

Great video. Such a shame to see our heritage with graffiti like that. I wish the young could appreciate these buildings more. Maybe they will when older; when sadly, it's too late. Just a wee suggestion, with the utmost respect. When filming these videos you are very thorough in mentioning which part of the building your in, e.g kitchen etc., but please could you give just a little bit of background as to the location and history of the family who lived there etc? for the sake of any overseas viewers. Most enjoyable. Thank you for the nice journey. Regards from Prestwick UK but previously Kilsyth.

Loving this mate, thanks. I grew up in the central belt, but Ive no idea where this is. How is the GoFundMe account getting on? im sure some Americans/Canadians would put in on helping this project. I'd love to see it restored to its glory.

If I Was There I Don't Care What Anybody Said To Me I Would Take It Upon Myself To Clear The Building Of Debris And Set Up A Petition To Have That Place Restored And Go About Asking Big Time Lottery Winners To Help Fund It Then Once Restored I Would Want To Move Onto The Next Restoration Job Leaving Behind Me A Legacy Of Restored Buildings For The Rest Of The World And The Nation To Enjoy And Be Proud Of ❤️👍

I was told that our family had a castle in Scotland at some point, but I do not know where to begin to start looking. I know that my great-great uncle is William Henry Beveridge, that wrote the Beveridge Report, but other than Wikipedia that is really the only information that I have to go on. Do you have any suggestions?

Is this place for sale or in the hands of the State? Has somebody there information about the ruins? Is it possible to buy the building and the land?

    • @scoutthedoggie2002
      @scoutthedoggie2002  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Its in the hands of a Trust, the lead trustee died a few years ago, his son took over but did nothing with the building. So a friend of the most recent owner moved in and he is taking care of the building, but he has very little money, which is why I set up the ground me account and 100% of everything raised via that goes to him to save the castle.

Definitely not wind and water tight.
I’m sure it still had windows and a roof “when I was there” the 60’s,
    and Naw, .............. No the *1660’s* !
(A bit a Denny humour there if ye read carefully).
Well done gents, splendid wee video, thanks for the memories of “Older Days and Times”.
