  • ABANDONED GEORGIAN COUNTRY HOUSE IN SCOTLAND
    Georgian country house built around the nucleus of a simple square keep of c.1500. The tall crowstep-gabled wings to the east and west were added in 1673. The bow-fronted elevation to the south was added in the 18th century and completely encases the original keep on that side. More extensions were add though the 18th and 19th Century's.
    The house fell abandoned in 1991 mainly due to dry rot, and attempts to find a use for it and effect a rescue plan have so far failed, leaving the house derelict and deteriorating.
    Join us as we explore the inside of this beautiful building and what remains inside.

      Edward Kellogg thanks again, glad you enjoyed it was a great place to explore and was glad we managed to get inside to see the interior, it must of been beautiful in its day sad to see it's in such a bad way today. Since the video I've been informed on my social media that someone has spoke to the son of the owner and it would take approximately £6million to restore and so why it's been left 👎🏻

    What a stunning Georgian building. Such a shame it's been abandoned! Demi said she could imagine when they used to play the piano there, she said it would have been grand. 🎹🎶

      Charlene Wallis definitely it's a shame it's been stripped bare, it didn't have one key even on it, would of been a grand place in its day with all the wood interior but may of been part of its reason for being so expensive for the repair of the dry rot, since posting the video I've been informed from someone that's spoke to the owners son it will cost £6 Million to restore 😳

    If I didn't make a mistake by my hearing, you told us the castle was abandoned in 1991, was it?
    Well, I don't think so, mate.
    It sure had been abandoned for decades.
    Firstly, I would like to ask you. Is there any world war in Scotland during the time?
    I think it is probably abandoned because of the war.
    Thank you so much for sharing
    I enjoyed it very much

    • @777jones

      June Kwan did you know that 1991 is nearly 3 decades ago, and that it rains a lot in Scotland?

    • @nk53nxg
      @nk53nxg 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Once the roof goes without being repaired quickly enough thats it, the repair bill will sky rocket the longer it is left. The lime mortar in the stone work will start to saturate and wash out making the walls more fragile and unstable although the stone work can still stand for a long time. Old houses did not have pressure treated timber like modern builds so they will rot like mad once enough moisture gets in, they eventually rot anyway. Scotlands windy and wet climate is actually quite brutal on building materials, the wind and rain erodes bare brick, sand and lime stone if not maintaned. That house is rotting from the outside and inside, best way to fix that place is get the roof repaired then gut the inside and renovate from there. Or douse it in petrol and start again. Fix the roof, seal of windows and point the masonry to prevent damp ingress and it could be salvaged, long tedious and expensive process.

  • @susanbrown2909

    Needs internally stripping of the wooden floors..and some heavy restoration..which will be expensive.
    That was one dodgy place to be in..even the slightest vibration could caused a collapse .

  • @terrywoodard3051
    @terrywoodard3051 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Big, big project, but if those rock walls will stay up, (I'd reinforce the rock- vertical I beam, rebar and mortar, interior, some, same, buttressing outside. The interior is mortar and lathe, anyway, and one could opt for wood over the top, (I like walnut, panelling and floors,) etc). Well, if the rock can be kept intact, completely empty the interior (save some nice stuff, too, but roof down to the basement, clean it out! Get ready for top to bottom, -new. I like these videos because they inspire imagination and appreciation of people and architecture. Do-able, though, maybe. Beautiful, huh?tw

      Hi Sarah Strong, who did the other video you watched of it, do you remember? Would love to have seen it in better days.

      @@carlaflynn3590 Sorry. I dont remember. It will be somewhere on You Tube I expect. I think it was from about two years ago & it was a lot more intact. Hope you find it. All the best.

    You need to speak more loudly and cut out the background music and special effects, it overpowers your narration. When you talked to us at the beginning, and then decided to look the other way, we couldn't hear half of what you were telling us, and made it frustrating to your viewers. You also mumble quite a bit and we can't make out what you are saying. It was a beautiful place and you do nice filming, but the quality of the film's audio level needs to be considered. Look forward to seeing other lovely places such as this!
