    my car has been sitting in my driveway for 3 years because I can not afford a shop to fix it and am dyslexic and A.D.D. so dont have the patience to read how to fix the problems. I am very hands on and great at building / fixing things. Your videos are amazing, to the point, and exactly what I needed to fix my car. You helped me fix my overheating problem, my shaky idling, my shaky acceleration, and my a\c all by my self (while 5 months pregnant!!). You also gave me a lot of info about caring for my car i never even thought about (like the importance of waxing). You are the best!!!! I will be recommending your videos to all my friends.

      I would use jack stands always just for the peace of mind, even if the suspension doesn't travel far enough down to hit you, I bet it sure would scare the crap out of you if the jack gave suddenly. Also, if you have your arm up somewhere like getting a top bell housing bolt or something it could easily be broken. But great videos Scotty!

      Go drop a truck off a jack once and see how far down it goes, Its going to hurt if it happens

    Looks easier than using a vice and a socket. One thing you forgot to mention is to be careful not to loose any of the bearings is the end caps, and it's not a bad idea to put a dab of grease in them before you pop them on. Reminds me of my old exploder, cept the U-joints in the back were completely seized up, made quite a bit of a thumping whenever I accelerated.

    Thanks Scotty! My '99 GMC Sonoma was shaking on the way home after buying it. No mention of it in the ad though but what do you expect for $400. I was wondering if the U joints could've been the issue so I looked it up. This is the first U joint video I could find that had no BS. Interestingly, you're the only mechanic I know who does driveshafts outside, no sweat.

    my 300zx twin turbo was shaking a lot when driving, took 5 mechanics to look at it. Finally the last one figured out it was the transmission mount that made the car shake, replaced it & was all better :)

    You can also use a vice and 2 different sized sockets
    One that's just a bit smaller than the join and one that fits over the joint.

    Great video Scotty!! I have a feeling its my driveshaft that's causing the vibration (only vibrating when I give it throttle...doesn't matter the speed I'm going), so I'm going to jack her up and take a look. Thanks for the helpful video!!

    you can typically rent a you joint press from your local auto parts store. Bascily it is a giant c-clamp with different adapters that will fit onto the cap of the u-joint. This will allow you typically, as long as you can fit this tool on them, replace the u-joint with out ever taking the shaft out of the car.

  • @brianthelion
    @brianthelion 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    That tool is awesome, looks so much better than using a ball joint press or the socket and vise trick

  • @jimh.5286
    @jimh.5286 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I remember fiddling with frustration, trying to press out the u-joint parts in a bench vice using sockets, holding the heavy and awkward driveshaft with one hand, trying to hold the two sockets in place with another hand, and turning the vice handle with my third hand...wish I had one of those dandy u-joint tools.
