    Hello
    I've diognosed with cyclothymic disorder one week ago however I have some questions about my diognose in my brain. I believe I really experience depressive episodes but I don't know how a real hipomanic episode should be like. Sometimes I really feel comfortable. It affects my mood and it makes me feel like I can attain what I want. But i have never lost my logically considering ability. And nobody says that you are different than the yesterday. I live this beautiful emotions only in my own mind and soul. This period continues for a very short time. My depressions persist for weeks, maybe sometimes for days but my hypomaniac episode(I am not sure is it really a hypomanic episode or not) takes one day or sometimes just for hours. I am sure I really experience depressive episode but i am not sure my hypomania criterias are enough to diognose myself as a cyclothymic. I want to know your opinion about my condition. Am i really live hypomanic experiences? - - english is my second language sorry about my grammer mistakes i hope i can explain my condition. Thank you for the video 🌸

      Although I'm not diagnosed, I resembled with a lot of things you have mentioned in your comment.
      My older brother was diagnosed in the past with bipolar (although after many years of therapy his diagnosis has been changed to cyclothymia), and in the last two or three years I started wondering whether I am on this spectrum, too, or not.
      I try to educate myself and I started tracking my mood in order to find out if it's caused by my hormones and my menstrual cycle, or it's more like a mood disorder. But I really recognized myself in your comment. I have days when I feel uplifted (but not in a way that is reconisable for my environment and I maintain my logical behaviour) but they don't last longer than one or two days (or even hours, as you mentioned), and I have depressive periods (but they are not severe, I don't have suicidal thoughts or things like that).
      My plan is to find out if it's related to my period or not, and maybe look for a therapist to get help or some advice at least.

      @@ingridfischer3432 Bipolar disorder is highly correlated to genetics and it's not rare to have more than one person in the same family with the diagnosis (even siblings)

    The hypomania feels tiring sometimes.. extreme confidence and rush of thoughts doesn't stop . On some days i feel if i met some movie celebrity i would tell him that he needs to take my autograph

    I am diagnosed with bipolar 1 & PTSD. Do those with cyclothymia tend to have high levels of anxiety? Sensory sensitivities?

    • @clarabsantos
      @clarabsantos 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I believe that every person in the spectrum of the bipolar disorder has sensory sensitivities or, at least, is very likely to have. And the high leves of anxiety I believe can be attributed to a mixed episode or even as a comorbity of the bipolar disorder

      @@clarabsantos I am diagnosed with 2 anxiety disorders but they are not my primary diagnoses & can even be considered part of my other diagnoses (when I asked my psychologist about this).

    Whats the difference between bipolar disorder and cyclothymic disorder?

    • @dralywood
      @dralywood  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Jennifer,
      For bipolar 1 disorder, a patient needs to have a manic episode.
      With cyclothymia, they have both hypomanic symptoms and depressive symptoms. However, symptoms are not severe enough to meet criteria for a true manic episode or a true major depressive disorder. Also for cyclothymia, symptoms need to be present over a two year period. Mood symptoms have to have lasted for at least half the time and have not gone away for more than a 2 month period.
      I hope this helps clarify things!
