Absolute timeless classics here Boulder mate. For years blessed was my favourite morbid angel album I remember seeing them at the old marquee club with desultory supporting on that tour. Excellent stuff as always my friend!
Never seen Morbid mate, hopefully Bloodstock will book them one day. That must have been an amazing gig. 4 classics definitely mate, superb albums. Cheers mate 👍
Even though I type this sat in a Blessed are the sick hoodie I'd still agree with you on this ranking. Nice OG of Obituary there mate. I wish they'd hurry up on the proper Deicide reissues!
That Obituary is actually a reissue I picked up at Bloodstock a few years back mate. Those Deicide album are really in need of reissue's mate. Cheers Mike
Excellent video. I wouldn't even be abke to rank those albums. Agree with you on Obituary's cover of "Circle of the Tyrants" (ugh!).
Difficult to rank these 4 Kim, with them.all being so good. And yeah that Frost cover is insanely good

Hi James, four stonkers here! The one I still reach for the most out of these is Morbids BATS. Seemed to me at the time it came out that they were pushing for something epic that seperated them from the DM pack. Its a wonderful metal record for sure. Legion just went for the throat with no mercy given. Belter! But it seemed to take for ever to come out back then. All top slabs of classic DM that still sound amazing. Good gear mate, all the best!
Blessed is never gonna be my favourite Morbid Angel album but it's definitely got some killer stuff on it. Legion is absolutely punishing, a perfect album. Always good to hear from you Jason. Cheers mate 👍
Incredibly difficult this one. My personal ranking would be-
1. Deicide- Legion
2. Death- Leprosy
3. Obituary- Cause of Death
4. Morbid Angel- Blessed are the Sick
There is a hair between them, all stone cold classics.
4 killer albums and was very hard to pick the number 1 between Death and Deicide. Cheers for watching fella
I’ve said it before James… but I have absolutely no idea how you manage to pick a No1 when your choices are 4 of the greatest DM albums ever recorded imo! Great job tho mate!🤘🏻

Cor, four foundational albums. Can't really argue with your ranking, Mr B. I haven't listened to Blessed Are The Sick in a while. That ends with the short piano piece, doesn't it? 'Lick My Love Pump' or whatever it's called.

Four superb releases with not a lot to choose between them. I think I'd have placed Obituary only just above Deicide, but that would depend on the day 😂 Cool video, James 🤘

Good to hear your thoughts on the albums James. Yeah definitely one of the hardest ranking s to do. I think I'd swap the Deicide and Obituary with each other. I think Leprosy is the strongest album from these, but that's the one I know best.

All of those albums are perfection. Though I would probably put Blessed are the sick or Legion on top. Cause of death is great in it's straightforward punchiness but Legion and Blessed just both sound more "tasty" for my ears 😊 And Leprosy is fantastic of course, but I enjoy better the stuff from Human onwards.
By the way it's quite amazing that such a sunny and "recreational" state as Florida became a fatherland of one of the most brutal and dark genres in the history of music 😉

Cool little ranking video James leprosy was my introduction to death a band for me like bolt thrower never put out a bad record legion is a beast of an album saw deicide live a few years back and was slightly disappointed they only played dead but dreaming from that record
Cheers as always Robert. Seeing Deicide in August at Bloodstock festival and I can't wait. Yeah Legion is absolutely savage and an essential Death Metal album.
Thanks for the video, must have been great to spend time revisiting them before hand too. I went into my local record shop in December and he had recently had someone sell their metal collection, UK first Leprosy was in the pile, I had to get it.

I actually really like Rick Rozz' more primitive Slayer-esque guitar work on 'Leprosy'; it makes for a cool juxtaposition set against the more refined guitar work of mr. Schuldiner. They complement each other perfectly! 👌
Kudos for trying to rank these classics; I would never be able to; they are ALL 10 out of 10 albums for me... 🤘🤘
The Michael Whelan cover artwork for that Obituary album has got to be one of the best in all of metal; just brillant! 👌
I definitely get what your saying about Rick Rozz and Chuck's different style's complimenting each other. Definitely one if the hardest ranking videos I've done. Cheers for watching
@@mrboulder9714 Rick Rozz' guitar work on Massacre' classic 'From Beyond' release was in no small part a deciding factor in making that album one of the most iconic old school death metal albums ever made, right up there with 'Leprosy' in my world... 🤘🤘
Awesome ranking James! For me it would be very close between Leprosy and Cause of death, mainly because they're the ones I know the most. I've only heard a couple of songs from Blessed are the sick, and not heard anything from Legion. All Stone cold classics though, must check out that Diecide album! 😊🤘🏻

Hi James!!! cool video and great idea too..... as you might know, i'm not a big death metal or extreme music fan, but i have heard all of Death's releases and to me they are all good enough to get them into my collection (at least on cd, lol), I will also try to listen to the other three albums. cheers and be well
As far as Death Metal goes, Death are one of the bands that are definitely a good gateway point for people looking to explore the genre. Cheers Cristian

Cause Of Death is pretty much flawless. Pcircle Of The Tyrants kills.
Legion is fucking EVIl! Way better than the debut inmy aopinion. The speed on Revocate The Agitator is absolute warp speed.
Leprosy iscfantastic. Some of r. Bedt riffs ever. Fotrgotten Past is so simple but really effective.
All four albums are staples in any respectable Death Metal list or collection.

4. Deicide

Nothing here for me to argue. Only thing I personally would switch would be Cause of Death and Legion…. Even though I have listened to Legion many times and I love it now… Cause of Death just beats it.

Cool ranking, James! If I'm brutally honest, I'll place Obituary's Cause of Death a little higher; above Deicide's Legion. But overall, it's a solid list!

Blessed are the sick really shocked me how Morbid angel slowed down from altar of madness. Great guitars all the way through that album. Did you know that there is a band called Nexehaus with there album called a tribute to insanity with the same album cover. Cause of death a true master piece for me with James Murphy joining the band. Deicide 2nd album. Over the top with the lyrics and that really put me off the album. Leprosy thy best death metal album of all time.
I didn't know about another album.having the same cover as Blessed Are The Sick. Desth's Leprosy is a perfect album, all killer no filler. Thanks for watching
All great albums from 4 clear pioneers of a genre, I couldn't agree more with you on Leprosy being the #1 of them all, but I think as for ranking these albums for sake of the whole albums as a singular unit each, Leprosy is not won by just a hair over the others. To me, there is a standout reason why. The factor that catapults Leprosy easily passed #'s 2, 3, & 4 and stand alone in front is, I don't skip s single track. That album gets played from track 1 all the way to the end, never stopping it to skip to another particular track besides the next one. Because every single track on that album needs to be heard just as much as any other song you could skip to. Where as with the other 3 albums on this iist, they all have some songs you like better than the rest & some you don't like quite as much as your favorite song on the album. I go to those albums wanting to hear a particular song or 2, or maybe more, but not every single song. When I go to Leprosy, I go for the ENTIRE album, without a specific song preference to hear first, i just gotta hear them ALL!
That, in my opinion, is why there is no question as to which is the clear cut winner.
The only other album that had that effect on me, to just let it play From beginning to end without stopping at some point to switch & play another song other than the one that comes on next, (it's not a death metal album, but has the same unique ability) is Slayer's Reign In Blood. Every time it's just like one 28-29 minute song, from Tom's most famous scream at the beginning of Angel Of Death all the way to the sounds of the lacerated sky at the end of Raining Blood...just play the album througb.
Leprosy & Reign In Blood are the ONLY 2 albums in all of metal history that I can say that about.

😂 Wait a second, no I did used to have to stop it mid album...when i first had it on cassette, back in 1988, I had to flip it from side A to side B, but that's it.
(Didn't have to on Reign...all songs were on each side)

Blessed are the Sick isn't a patch on Altars of Madness. Cause of Death is ok but overrated, The End Complete is better. Deicide - not a fan. Leprosy is amazing though, Death's best.

Death Metal is a bit like marmite with me, some i like a lot, some i can't stand, no inbetween.... i've not got many DM albums but i do like Death, Pestilence & Obituary, i have at least 3 albums by those bands. Even though i have relatively little interest in the subject matter your enthusiasm is infectious. keep up the good work dude
Some Death Metal like Obituary is much easier to listen too than the likes of Deicide, I definitely get what you're saying. Cheers as always Neil 👍
